So I just realized that there will obviously no longer be special, or one of a kind items that 'boost' your skills or talents by a point or two, as in both Diablo 1 and 2.
This might not seem like a big deal to most, but I always really enjoyed the benefit of getting these.
So can anyone suggest a possible replacement for this?
My thought was maybe "Drink potion X and you can unlock a runestone variant of your choice". As in maybe one of the higher level requirement ones could be achieved right away.
Wouldn't you be pissed if someone had told you that you couldn't post until a certain quota had been reached? As if your possible threads were less valuable because of an arbitrary number?
The number wasn't completely arbitrary at all. There were plenty of reason given for even just 10 posts. And no, I wouldn't be pissed at all. I've been on other forums with the same restrictions and it was perfectly sensible a measure.
Look I'm not trying to flame or start a riot or anything. I just question the efficacy of the move. I could post "I agree" or "nice" ten times, and it won't make the idiotic thread I (probably) create any less so.
All I was saying is I don't think it will stop the trolls from trolling for beta.
I'm relatively new here so maybe I have no real right to comment, but that's just the way I see it.
Merely deny new users the ability to post new threads unless they've achieved a certain number of posts. Even as low as 10 or 20 would make a huge difference.
Why does anyone even care? It's not like it costs you time/money to simply ignore the threads that you are uninterested in.
Take me for instance. New poster, but not new to the site. So why wouldn't I be able to create a thread of something that interested me even though i had one or two posts? Are we worried about server space or something? Why such draconian measures?
And Siaynoq, even you (14,000 odd posts ago) were new at some point. Wouldn't you be pissed if someone had told you that you couldn't post until a certain quota had been reached? As if your possible threads were less valuable because of an arbitrary number?
Come now...let's be reasonable. Diablo is a gentleman's game after all.
This Jay Wilson message has got me curious as to how close is close.
I mean if lots of the employees are finishing full playthroughs and are rarely working, then they should absolutely kick it into 5th gear and announce. Announcement would mean the employees have to refocus, and can only mean a better game.
Its a win-win.
YOU HEAR ME JAY??? Tell me the date. Private message me if necessary. I promise not to use that information to my advantage by announcing it to the world.
Instead of the first 5 people, when 98% of the posters will already be too late, make a bigger give away where the first 20 people or hell even the first 50 people get a key.
That is actually a pretty good idea. That should be their last two 'big batches'.
What would be cool is to ask a hard question that is difficult to google quickly . Something only a dedicated Diablo player would know off by heart (and thus have a chance to answer before the mob). My Diablo knowledge is limited to say the least and I would get crushed, but it would be cooler to see them go to people who care about the game enough to know their shit.
I will even give possible questions: "What do you need to reach the cow level?" or "What weapon did you receive from Griswold?"
I am a big fan of this steady progression/tangible reward mechanic.
No more "You just reached the next level! Your health is a litttttllleeee bit higher and you have one skill point to spend (probably poorly)!!"
I loved Diablo 2. Loved it. But I am over that system completely. We needed something new, and honestly this was a great attempt to bring it to us. Who knows, maybe things will drastically change in an expansion. But for now, I am satisfied.
The lack of immaturity on this site is what finally brought me from the shadows to actually posting here.
Just contribute to that, and it'l work out.
Well said my good man!
But yes, I was in the same boat. Been reading this sight for agesssssss. Then the contest came up, and I was all "sweet betaahhhhhzzz". So I stopped being lazy and started posting for my own selfish selfish reasons. However, once you start to get into it, you realize (mostly) everyone on this site is a Diablo fan through and through. They get it. And that is good.
He is throwing an axe, but clearly has a 'samurai' type sword equipped. So the same could be said for the monk. I mean its not like "wave of light" means that he/she has an actual bell equipped right?
Notice Diablo's shoulderpads on the wow/d3/SC2 picture with diablo in the middle - from blizzcon. The shoulderpads looks just like Azmodan's head!
I forget where, but one of the monster bio's said that an 'unknown' evil force was creating the monsters in Sanctuary. Maybe SuperLeafz has a point and Azmodan, not Diablo (who is dead after the destruction of the soulstone as far as I know), changes Leah/Adria's body into the demon we see, and then SHE becomes the new Lord of Terror, but under Azmodan's control (like a fiery, terrible pet!).
This would kind of make sense from an expansion point of view. You kill the Leah/Diablo hybrid monstrosity, and then in the expansion you get a chance to kill Azmodan himself.
Thoughts?

Has this been discussed? I couldn't find it.
You tell me now.
That would eliminate your concerns (redundancy) while also addressing my concerns (inability of a new member to post).
This way a new member can still post a potentially interesting and engaging topic, while avoiding the thread clones you all seem to hate.

I am becoming more and more impressed with the Wizard. Can't wait to try that class out. What an interesting, tactical mix of abilities.
It would be sweet to see the runed versions in a following vid.
We shall have our day in the sun. It's called release!!!! oh sweet release how i long for you
You again? Honestly man pick your topic threads. These people are celebrating the fact that they have a beta key. Don't be that guy.
Congratulations to the Beta winners!

And having it statistically calculated would be easy enough I guess. Either way, I like the idea!

He uses weapons, not necessarily 'his' weapons. If you check out this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5ixH_lC170k, you will see what I mean.
