I think a PVP system with PVE elements would work quite nicely, with systems such as capturing points for resources, building towers and units to send to your opponents, etc.
As much as some people have been waiting for PVP, I think the game has lost too much of its player base at this point for it to make too much of an impact. Don't get me wrong, I still love the game, but there would have to be a dramatic overhaul to draw back the crowd I'm assuming Blizzard is expecting.
I very much disagree with the captcha suggestion, those things are annoying enough when signing up for websites to have to deal with them in my games. Like I've said before, while bots have a definite impact on the economy, they do not directly impact my game, and I would hate to see changes put in place that would hinder my experience simply to combat a problem that doesn't seem to affect me much.
I'm glad they did away with botters, though its unlikely that any of us would really notice, seeing as how the world resides in our games and we have little to no interaction with botters at all (except spam bots I suppose).
Talking about nephalem valor, I think it's still too harsh to remove all 5 stacks for simply changing skills. This type of restriction doesn't promote "fun" play, because if I encounter a particular pack I can't beat, I can choose to either lose all my stacks by changing skills (not fun), skip the pack (not fun), or cut my losses and make a new game (also not fun). Removing a single stack of valor would make it so people are not changing skills randomly all the time, while not penalizing players to the point that changing skills once a 5 stack is reached becomes something that isn't even considered.
Pickup radius, at the very least, should not have such a small default size. Getting it on gear is a requirement and makes not having it extremely un-fun. Getting a piece of gear should increase my amount of fun, not eliminate the non-fun I'm having. Just my two cents.
Crafting weapons isn't nearly as worth it at the moment because the DPS won't compare to iLvl 63 pieces (for the most part). Stick to crafting armor, sell them, and save up for a better iLvl 63 weapon.
It was quite enjoyable, nice work. The only qualm I have is as far as I can tell, your follower is still decked out in the gear your standard character uses. Seeing as how well geared followers can get 7-8k+ dps (not to mention your follower seemed to have a ton of hp and/or resists), and your own dps was only 6k, it seems like a slight oversight given another person trying this out might not produce the same results. Other than that it was a very informative look into how proper item knowledge and player skill can make up for a smaller item budget.
Skills have no levels - and I believe it was in a post from Bashiok - or possibly even a blog - that stated the mods for skills would be like that.
You are right, I didn't write my claim properly because I wanted to go check the modifier database As far as I can see from the data mined information, any gear can modify specific skills. Here's an example:
[Skill_DemonHunter_HungeringArrow 8] of the Predator on Chest Armor, Belt, Shield, Bow, Crossbow, Hand Crossbow, Quiver, Cloak
Hungering Arrow Increased by 5% (DemonHunter only)
As you can see, Chest armor, Belt, and Shield are all generic pieces usable by anyone. The list I found was at
That is also if they still keep those modifiers. Take it with a grain of salt until stated by a Blue or in the release game.
You are 100% correct, it is slightly fruitless to debate these points when everything has been changing so much, but on the other hand it does make for a fun discussion

On a brighter note, I believe the + modifiers to class skills, lets say +2 bash, can appear on any piece of gear. I'm going to go hunt through the datamined modifier database to verify.
I watched a youtube video where a guy crafted like 200+ level 20-30 items, and the only class specific modifiers I saw were on the class specific gear. Like everyone else my information regarded the game is severely stunted by the pool of information that we have, but I believe this is how it works for magic/rare items. Legendaries and set items may present "unique" modifiers, such as class specific modifiers, but there's literally no information on those right now.
Generally speaking class specific weapons can have modifiers on them pertaining to your specific class, such as wands having + max arcane power and +x arcane power on critical hits, or monk fists having + spirit regen. These modifiers aren't present on weapons that everyone can use. So, lets say a wand has 25dps but has some pretty awesome class specific modifiers, but a mace has 30dps without them, someone would have to make the choice as to which is more beneficial. I'm not saying that this is always going to be the case, where generic weapons will beat out class specific weapons, but it does make the loot pool more diverse.
