I see the light. Those damn level 12's need to stop PK'ing those poor innocent level 97's. It's just not right. *Eye roll.*
Fact is, PK is about killing. Nobody is stupid enough to pick a fight that they can't win. And if they are, then it's there own fault. But for those of us who get picked on at 12 by the 97, it's not fair nor is it right nor is it what Diablo 2 was designed for. PvP is fun, and it's part of D2, but PK is about picking on people weaker then you and getting jollies from it. Diablo 2 isn't about picking on people, and from what I understand, Diablo 3 is about cooperation, not picking on people.
Then again, that's just how I see it. maybe if I was one of the few PK'ers then I'd see it differently. See the fun of killing all those level 12's. The joy in ruining the game for everyone else. Make myself feel manly by making little kids cry that there HC character just died.
On a side note: Say you joined a game and it's your first game. You make it public, hoping to make some friends online. Is it your fault that you made it public and got killed the moment you hit level 9? (That's why the Diablo 2 world is shrinking. Scaring people away.)
Seems a bit radical. And that's an understatement. T_T
Hi all, read through this and first let me say that it is a good read. There is nothing more I want to see changed in D3 than the ability to PK. Not PvP, but PK. It should never have existed in the first place, and it is obvious the devs have realized this. I am a longtime Diablo player, dating back to the first one (96?). I remember almost it seemed from day one when D2 was released people getting angry about how Hostile was implimented. Diablo series, especially MP has always had at it's core the element of cooperative play. But as much as some wish to praise the original devs as gods, they were very short sighted in many aspects.
Fact of the matter is nobody has a right to intrude on my entertainment for their own selfish pleaseure. To put a simple analogy together, think of this. Would anyone at all agree it to be a appropriate if I was to go to a park where some people where playing baseball, or basketball, and basically chase them away? No, in fact in the real world I would get arrested. The reason being is that society does not reward anti-social behavior.
Now I know this is a game after all, but we still need to apply some lessons in life. And one of those is that childish, selfish, anti-social behavior simply should not be rewarded. If a high level PK'r thinks it is "OK" to do what he does, then would it be equally OK if I was to say hack into his account and take all his items.....for my selfish needs?
The apex to this came to me about 2 years ago when after returning to D2 after a long time away. I was in a Norm Baal game where we did the quest, and all 7 of use went on together to do NM. After 2 hours of some of the best fun I had ever had playing D2, it would of course have to be ruined by some lvl 95+ who comes to PK us. He did not succede in killing anyone, but basically everyone in my team just became angered and fed up, so they left the game.
Seems a bit radical. And that's an understatement. T_T
Of course. Killing people weaker then you for your own enjoyment is exactly that. If you think that it's ok to pick on people weaker then you, then you need to go see a psychiatrist.
well... PKing is the Bad side of having the stupid PvP system in D2, like baal runs... a pker joins the game, most people go to town(to not die if its Hardcore) or leave, but the PKer has disrupted GAMEPLAY.
Oh and What if someone just wants to attain the highest level possible? Why should said person be FORCED to play in only PRIVATE games just to get to where he wants to go, the PvP system in D2 is FLAWED out the @$$ and half way to california... I kept on emailing Blizzard to implement a Hostility or No Hostility checkbox on the create game Tab, it never got implemented, but it was a way to solve all the pking BULLSH!T since D2 is now hacked to buggery.
I really really miss the good ol days of 8 players running through the game together, finding and sharing the loot, and defeating the big bad Prime Evils.
Nowdays its all hacks, duels, pking, look at bmpk... they have hacks to pk players and grief them for others "fun" (sry Fez if u read this, u know me, ur cool and i respect that). And on these "pk clans" sites are PK logs. MMM, lets see who can get the most PK's or the Highest LvL PK! Really fun for the other player...
If you guys are b!tching that the ENDGAME of Diablo is just about PvP, then you are very mistaken. This game is about killing monsters and defeating the Evil of Hell.
To finish off my post, here's an example.
What if in D2 you wanted to get to lvl 99, the game is hacked to buggery, and Public games are just PKville. Do you hide in private games? Or do you go into Public Games?
If your playing Hardcore, the answer will most likely be Private Games just because those hackers/pkers have taken over public games.
You have not addressed the largest and most concrete justification for the removal of PK (assumedly) in D3:
The dev. team has specifically stated and re-stated the D3 is first an foremost a co-operative game. This statement alone clearly reveals (as does the cited post) Blizzard's stance on PK'ing in D3.
PK is not intended to be an existent, much less substantial factor of play in D3.
Why is this the only defense that's needed? Because it's Blizzard's game, and if they don't desire for PK to be a factor in D3, then it won't, and it shouldn't. If PK is that important to a player, he / she won't buy the game. Obviously there aren't enough of those kinds of players to dictate D3 including PK.
I appreciate the passion and thought included in the OP, but it's time to face it. No matter how much you love to PK, Blizz doesn't want that to be a part of the D3 universe.
Case closed. Thanks.
What do you know, things can be changed. Oh and baby there will be changes. Blah Blah Blah the other 2 were co-operative games too.
I love this thread btw etslayer, I happened to read the entire post because I to believe what you are saying here about PK in general.
I believe in PvP but not PK. Because the fact is, the vocal minorty should not decide what the majority want. The majority do not want to be randomly killed over and over again. They want to play the damn game with consentual PvP.
Perhaps there should be a hardcore PvP and a hardcore PvE server.
A level 40 getting killed by a level 99 in Hardcore is just sickening.
Let's name a few ways getting PKed was totally preventable in D2:
Private games
Level restrictions
Make a town portal, head to town
Leave the game
Why this even an issue with some people is beyond me.
Because even if you do all those it's a major inconvenience to you having to start a new game and get a new group, and the PK still gets his jollies even if you leave because he "intimidated" you.

EDIT: Also for the record I was never PKed in D2.
This is DISRUPTING GAME PLAY, one of the bullet points shown at the WWI was the FAST ACTION gameplay, with hardly any distractions. Pking, going to town, leaving a game, defeats this purpose. So does making it Private, just cause of rampaging idiots(pkers)

So play with friends? So place a level restriction on the game you're in? Is one player near your level really going to take out your whole group? How do they even know where you are exactly when they can't see your location? In D2 you have every advantage over people trying to kill you.
And if you need a baby sitter 24/7 from getting "pked" when there's tons of ways to avoid being killed then you should go back to playing single player.
I hope to god the make a separate realm for you guys.

I hope to God they take out PKing all together so I can see you kick and scream on the ground in tears at the fact you won't be able to kill lower levels anymore.

Why should any of us have to:
Make Private games? Why should I be forced to do that? This is a public game with public servers for people to play in public games. So if everyone decides to start making private games, then how are others suppose to find a game to play in? This argument is never really thought out well is it now?
Level restrictions? Well....again why should anyone be inconvenienced? What if someone needs to switch chars...but oops their char does not meet the level requirements. Again, I and others have to pay for the selfish and sad delight of some loser?
Go to town? And what, sit there until the loser leaves? Again, why should my game be interrupted?
Leave the game? No, sorry, this is the absolute worst logic of all. Why should I have to leave MY game because some anti-soical little tard needs to act out?
So, if I fulfill my selfish delight and hack into your account and steal all your items, this will not be an issue with you right? This would not be beyond you?
What is beyond me is that anyone can defend PKing? You want to go PK someone, go play Call of Duty? Or don't you because there you will face people of equal or better skill that will own you? When you play 1on1 basketball, will you only play against people half your age? When you arm wrestle, will you only do it against your grandmother?

I want to play with players at my level. I want to play in private games. I want to keep people I don't know out of my games. That's what those features are for first and foremost.
As an added bonus they work pretty good against PK prevention.
Learn to use them, you're gaming experience will be 100 times better.

Were you just simply picked on a lot as a child and now have some deep seeded need for revenge against society? Latest advancements in psychiatric care can do a lot more for you than PKing level 12 player, trust me.
So if you are walking down the street, and some guy twice your size kicks the living #*@& out of you, you won't complain right?
Pkers seem like the kind of people that TK in FPSes.
What does PK bring to the game? Yes, you are right, a constant element of danger. Yet, when other games on the market (Such as AoC) have shown that 90% of PKing is higher levels slaughtering lower levels, then the players lose the responsibility for universal PK.
I am sure there will be some sort of server options to allow PK. I am also certain that most hardcore servers will have it disabled. Now everyone has their cake and eats it too.
PKers don't force PK on other players, yet PK still remains in the game for those who WANT it.

sad to say, i have been playing in private games, mainly cause of the rampant PKERS...
It has just gotten very boring so since the ladder reset, ive quit. nothing new, just same ol crap over again...

If it's that much of an inconvenience to use the helpful built in features of the game you're never going to see the other side of the argument.

D3 is centered around cooperative play, and that can't be achieved very well with games having to be closed all the time to avoid PKs.
PKing might not even BE in Diablo.
PvP will still be there though.

Well it's pretty much true... I have NEVER seen people try to PK someone their own level. Only PvP.
PKing has nothing to contribute to Diablo except a way for people to flex their e-muscles against lower levels.
