I got Fallout 3 for my birthday, been playing it near non-stop since, but it crashes very frequenty. I asked a few of my friends and they said it happens to them too. Is it a common thing or did I do something wrong?
When you say crash - Do you mean it just quits to desktop suddenly and doesn't give you an error message?
Which version is it?
Are you using any mods? Script extender or mod manager?
This happens to me every once and a while. Not enough to interfere with something important I'm doing though. Did you try Google magic? thats how i solve all my problems
the funny thing is that it does crash rarely but its usally due (based on my own experiences) the computer overheating and its usally underground ie in the sewers/metro when it happens

A hundred thousand worlds, ten hundred thousand wars. There is no respite, there is nowhere to hide. Across the galaxy there is only war.

If it's a hardware problem, it's easily fixable.
If it's a software problem, I'm not really sure what to do besides a reinstall.

It's the decisions you make when you have no time to make them that define who you are.
Download memtest. Run it and if there's even one error, find out which stick of RAM it is and replace it.
Download Prime95 32bit or 64bit and run the large FTT setting. If it doesn't crash/restart/provide an error message in 8 hours, close it.
Download Furmark and record your highest temperature reached, along with the average.
Post your results here and I'll be happy to help you more.
Also, you can use HWMonitor to monitor your temperatures. Leave it running while you're in game and then when you exit if will have recorded the max temperatures of your GPU and CPU
