If anyone is interested in a more comprehensive, straightforward, longterm plan/policy for user created content from Blizzard; as opposed to the random and frustrating one we've been stuck with for the passed 10 years. Please chip in on my suggestion post over at the battle.net forum. Quite a lot to read and I don't really have a detailed suggestion for Blizzard other than for them to please take a realistic look at how to deal with user created content in the future; especially now with their "be all, end all" battle.net 2.0 solution for all your multiplayer needs... even though numerous SC2 Galaxy Editor features are rendered useless by the highly restrictive and limited b.net 2.0 "custom game" option... not to mention no modding support of any kind for Diablo 3.
Anyway, read more about it here... Please and thank you.
I completely agree with you Ophion... Hopefully that becomes part of battle.net 2.0 longterm goals, because as of now the b.net 2.0 service leaves A LOT to be desired for. I quoted your post as a follow up to my thread on the official suggestion forum.
Yes, there are certain file size restrictions for one that are fairly low. I don't know the exact details on some of the other limitations. But I read a number of complains on the official Galaxy Editor forum and know of at least 2 innovative and in depth projects that were abandoned due to the current limitations playing on battle.net 2.0. That Lost Viking arcade shooter in the campaign was built with the Galaxy Editor, and you could create something similar but you wouldn't be able to play it through the b.net "custom game" option. aka single player only.
WC3 also had multiplayer limitations. Data cacheing/storage features and map 2 map transitions, which are both requirements of campaigns are limited to single player only. Multiplayer campaigns were never feasible in WC3 because of this.
Odds of them promoting mods servers for Diablo is slim to none. They don't want to split their fan base between players on Bnet and a mod server. I agree there should be custom games that don't effect your character in anyway but a full on server like Hell unleashed has abilities to kill any future plans they have for expansions as people can make their own content.
