so.....who's still playing it? after a 1 year hiatus, i finally came back to it (seriously, who can stay away from this sh*t? it's like heroine combined with chocolate), and started a SP un-twinked Bowazon (recently 'cheated' and gave her some gems and runes, but that's it)....thinking about going with Strafe with her, i'm not sure yet....i've also started a Werewolf Fury Druid playing with a semi-noobish mate of mine (i find that i'm only slightly above noobish myself, despite the years of play), so it's gonna be a really laid-back character. HE's gonna be 100% untwinked....no point having my mate running around with crap gear/stats while i'm 1-hitting everything (and i find receiving gear from other people sort of ruins the game). i'm excited about these 2, as i've never made a Bowazon OR a werewolf druid before, so we'll see how it goes.
i think my main problem (in both cases) will be the gear. playing untwinked is a real pain as far as gear goes, but my last summon necro did faily well on Hell, and that was untwinked too, so we'll se how goes. (low lvl)rune/gem words might en up saving my life. man, i dream about having some of those kanji runes every time i browse the ES wiki...
oh, i'm addicted to gambling. blowing through millions of gold in a gambling session is the best....even if you get that "oh my god, wtf happened to all my cash!" feeling at the end. but who cares....gambling is almost as fun as killing monsters.
i never really got into chits, i don't really understand how they work. i'm under the impression that you have a better chance of getting exc/elite, but i really don't know. if anyone would enlighten me....
I gamble early in the game to get my gold find gear (Leather of Luck gloves and at least 2 pieces of the Autoculs Set (Belt and Boots). I prefer using chits especially in Nightmare and Hell. The thing is that the Chits have will have a set percentage to be an exceptional or Elite depending on the difficulty purchased. As far as I know the roll is made first for exceptional and if the chance is too high an elite will not roll. The gambling chances are hardcoded. The Chits were made so you can get the Elites easier and the solution also works for Mac users.
I have been playing mostly tournaments for the past 4 years in ES and most of the rules had no use of items from other characters. In those 4 years you learn a lot about how to get gear for your character especially in a tourney with little or no re-running areas.
The largest factor to success is getting Gold Find especially early on. Gold Find will allow you to buy or gamble gear. Also do not d-stone/gem-meld gear unless you plan on the item as end gear. It is always better to spend the resources on forging gear or making Anvils since they can be returned to you when you are upgrading your gear.
Other key to success is creating your starter weapon and the skill tab amulet and rings. They make a big difference in the game and depending on the build it will make it easier to handle the Blood Raven's Workshop under level. BRW is a nice place to run before heading into Act 2. You can get some nice runes and can get some exceptional items as well. That will make the rest of Normal easier to play at higher players setting to get more gold.
The other key factor is the preparation for Hell. Most of the work can be done with a single pass of normal and nightmare if you do not waste d-stones. With the Gold Find gear you will usually have more than enough magic find to convert most uniques and sets into decipher points. I also will convert most unwanted or duplicate ancient scrolls into dragon stones. The only time I will not is early on to get cash for the gambling of my gold find.
