I don't really need it to be a great audio headset because I will most likely be using speakers to listen, and only need the headset (or mic on the headset) to communicate. However, I want my voice to be clear, so I don't want to buy a super cheap headset that has a terrible mic.
Any ideas?

Well, if you're going to be using speakers and you want to get a headset for it's mic, why not cut out the middle man and just get a mic for you computer? It might be awkward wearing a headset but not using it for sound, were you planning on wearing it just around your neck or something?
But if clarity of voice is something you really want it couldn't hurt to invest a little money into it. I've actually been looking to get a microphone for D3ing with my friends. I currently have a cheapo sub $10 headset and over skype it sounds like I'm trapped in a well made of aluminum cans but I'm looking for something with a little higher quality and it's somewhat easy for me to justify investing 50-80 dollars because of the sheer amount of hours I will put into using it. I was looking at something like this so my teammates can bask in my smooth deep barry white-ness.
If he's anything like me he's going to be playing the game sounds from the speakers and listen to voice comms from the (mono/1-ear) headset, hence the need for a headset mic. This however requires more than 1 audio device installed in the PC (I have 3).
I would like to do this. You mention 3 audio devices...what would I need?

I run a similar setup, I use speaker system for audio and the headset above to talk over Skype. I bought it for $11.00 USD on Amazon and its great. All the people I talk with use Razer headsets etc... and they say the quality of my voice sounds just as if I was using the same kind of headsets as they are.
It is also great with noise cancellation, it doesn't pick up background sound very easy which is great.
If you want something low priced that works, give it a look.

Here's a cheap microphone with pretty good reviews: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16836186004.
