Making loot individual creates some really weird moments in the game as far as im concerned:
think about you and a bunch of friends walking the world killing monsters...
with this messed up mechanism you'll probably see the other players walking from one place to another with no apparent reason (while in truth the actually collecting dropped loot only they can see).
that's kinda stupid, don't you think?!?!?!
i rather the loot is universal.
I think it will provide some really fun moments when you're on a network with your buds for some all night Diablo 3. I can imagine a random "HOLY SHIT!!!", and everyone stops to look over the guy's shoulder to see the phat loot that just dropped.
Nah I'm pretty sure after every big combat moment people will be wondering picking up loot. Sure others will be walking somewhere else but it isn't like they are paying attention to the other guys. We all got loot to get, so stop watching me and get your LOOT!

I've wondered how this would look too, but I'll reserve judgement until I see how it looks in beta. Either way, I definitely prefer this system for reasons already stated by others.
I think I'm ready to sacrifice the weirdness of having to constantly spam-click the ground after a boss dies (and if you are ranged, move in close range beforehand) in favour of this new "weirdness".
While private loot creates a few irks that can't really be solved you have to think of the gameplay reasons. It is a needed change.
If you liked the D2 style I recommend a game called "Whack-a-mole", it's about the same thing, over and over, and over..

If you played Diablo 2 you would have known what a click fest that was when the boss got close to 5% hp, I'm glad they got a better mechanic in place.

I do appreciate the intent of blizzard - it is indeed blessed.
what i'm saying is : there must be a more natural solution for this.
Only other solution i can think of is that it would role a random number between 1-4 every time an item drops and only 1 party member could pick it up, but i don't like that system much.

OK i have an idea!
when a monster dies the body stays.
now you can press the body and it shows the content of the drops.
anyone else press that body - meaning no random walks to places with no reason!
that's a pretty simple solution and its solves the silliness,

And when you have 20+ corpses on the same screen are you going to have to check each body individually for loot? Oh the nightmare...
Also, walking up to a corpse and clicking it look exactly the same as walking up to a corpse and picking up the item on the ground.

if bodies do not disappear - it doesn't look silly. thing is they must disappear (hardware reasons, ram CPU, etc)
if the corpse disappears - it makes no sense if someone goes there for no apparent reason.
they should leave a small "remains" object that anyone goes for and picks up from.
and ALT still works!
I think you're trying to solve a problem that doesn't exist. What's the difference between moving around and looting? The fact that you'll stand still for a second? I think it will be barely noticable, mostly because everyone will want to identify their new loots over the next few seconds and will be only looking at the open inventory.

But this isn't world of warcraft where mobs die slowly, in Diablo 2 action is much more faster paced, if you have to manually loot each mob you would spend more time looting then killing, i think the current implantation of loot is the closest to perfection you will get, but i guess you can never make everyone happy
Blizzards goal is to keep up the fast paced game play, Its one thing clicking the item you want on the ground which takes under a second versa clicking a body and then going into a loot menu and then clicking the items you kind of goes against that goal.

you dont have to open each "remains" icon!
you still can use the ALT (or was it SHIFT) button in order to see the items in it.
Didn't we see a screenshot where you could see that when someone opens his inventory, a marker pops up above his character?
Not sure what you mean. I only recall a marker that I thought it indicated when the character said something (like "evil beware" of the sorceress when she entered the Wilderness in Diablo II).

see? even that scenario sounds lame.
I'm telling you. its not authentic

It will allow us to play the game as it is meant to be played in combat situations.
