Obviously the dungeons had an added dimension to it, since the gameplay video included ladders and stairs and also had ghouls climbing up the walls.
So the question I'm pondering is... can characters now fall to their death? Could the Barb have fallen off the bridge if he had been a few steps further when it collapsed, or possibly leaped too far on a walkway?
Also I wonder if Blizzard is going to add some new skills that entail scaling walls or jumping down multi-level parts like cliffs. Should be interesting to see what the plans are since the Diablo world is now 3D.
I like the idea of the challenge of being able to fall but I didn't those skill shouldn't be put on the game, but maybe the current skills could be used.
I agree.. that extra obstacle of being separated should make things really interesting. I think that's a welcome addition in my book.
Imagine being in Hell again and having to avoid the lava or the void - or Arreat and watching out for the cliffs. Lots of potential. Could lead to some heartache on the PvP ganking side but still a good challenge - especially for those who are adamant about reality in the game.
Do you think the game play could be cheated with these new levels? What I mean is, could the game become to easy because of these new levels of height? I've played games before where you can just throw bad guys of the edge if you had a knock back blow or a throw. The most resent one I played that had game play like that was Hellboy: seeds of evil. I never punched or used any of my other attacks because I could just throw bad guys over the edge. This made the game to easy and I beat it in 2 hours. I have faith that they will not make a mistake like this but the game seems unrelenting and I like that. Like right after they killed that huge monster 50 zombie popped up out of the ground. I was impressed, it's been a long time since I'm played a game that tried to stomp a mud hole in your ass.
If falling were implemented, maybe it would be an option for most mobs but I'm sure bosses could not be defeated that way - they're too big to move so it wouldn't be possible in reality. Also knockback isn't available to everyone so it could be a luxury of an attack. I'm sure if Blizzard does allow that sort of strategy that they will find a way to balance it.
Or of course not allow it at all - imagine being caught in lag near a drop off - yikes
1) Yes, you could die a gruesome death to the environment.
2) There will always be a way that you can tell when an environment might be dangerous - some warning signs, or maybe an item or skill that will let you detect dangerous environments (mainly for the hardcore guys)
3) If you get stuck, and you don't have leap or a similar skill, then you'll just have to go a slightly longer route that you might have taken anyway
OR
1) You just get damaged by the environment. Like you get crushed by falling blocks, but come climbing out slowly, with 2 hp, and you use your pot.

Ranger - Ranged Weapon Mastery (fire a bow or javelins like a machine gun!), Traps (MK style!), Pets (lions, tigers, and bears oh my!) - physical damage based
Demonologist - Bone Spells (Necro style!), Avatar (shapeshift into a demon!), Furies (evil spirits that hang around you, giving party bonuses) - mix of physical damage and magic
LEAP ATTACK!!!!! PLAGUE OF TOADS!!!!!
SLOW TIME!!!!!
Interesting, but the barb could also just jump past, pop a town portal and like that transfer the other characters across...which would kind of ruin this challenge.
Also i really hope characters cant fall to death of objects, would only give more complications then it would add fun/challenge. Would only get frustrating after teleporting into the abyss, leap, whirlwind, etc etc...
town portals may be reworked in some way.
