I too found it odd that this feature was missing. I actually wanted to use it for the first time and it was no where to be found. I hope they do add it in later.
It's just the ability to chat between Blizzard games with Real ID friends. They've said that it will be added in later.

i would choose my own religion and worship my own spirit, but if he ever preached to me i wouldn't want to hear it. i'd drop him, a forgotten god, languishing in shame; and then if i hit stormy seas, i'd have myself to blame.
The shouts are like a status update on your Real ID window that your friends can see. Most of my friends go back and forth with shouts calling each other gay, so I don't miss the spam all too much.

No, that's just the Real ID system and that works just fine. You can talk to other people in other games now. Shouts are the updates.
What I am asking are what Cantor was talking about. I just miss them. Could have been useful communicating with my friends... I'm just wondering how I'd be able to get a confirmed answer about this either from someone who knows or even a blue poster... I'd be willing to buy Bashiok a unicorn cuz I know he's always wanted one.... Just sayin.
Low on the priority list compared to the lack of other features in the chat. Shouts typically result in spam. If you need to talk to someone on your BNet just do it...don't spam everyone's screen. I always disabled shouts anyway.

For those of us with more than 4 friends this really isn't sufficent. A broadcast lets me say to all my friends "LF1M for Act II" or whatever else I may be doing without having to individually whisper ~50 people. I actually haven't cared for the system in any of the other games, but in the one game the system would be perfect for it is missing.
I think I'll look into writing a WoW guild relay addon that will take whispers from yourself and broadcast them to guild chat, and whisper your guild chat to you in D3. Probably wouldn't be too hard to add broadcasts into that system either.
Good riddance. Pretty worthless feature. I don't think I've ever gotten a single message that was remotely entertaining or useful through that broadcast. I hope it doesn't make it back in.
The friend's list interface is not intrusive in Diablo 3 and it should be kept that way. No pop-ups or notification ftw. Also you dont see friend's requests until you view the page. That's excellent. Having broadcasts pop up would ruin things and not seeing them pop-up defeats the purpose of having them in the first place.

Some people tell me I'm going to hell. I just let them know that I've already packed my bags!
Are they going to enable RealID shouts later on? Or are we forever going to be missing them from D3?
*just kinda feels odd I need to keep WoW or SCII open for that*

And Sexton has it right - Blizzard found it more "worthwhile" to spam my chat with friend's achievments...
