I was having a bit of trouble with some of these bosses especially with public groups, so I ended up soloing them. Hope this helps, let me know if there are any other videos you'd like to see.
This is just the general kiting strategy with some escapes/delays applied to Iskantu. Use Teleport/Diamond Skin to buy time (tank/divert hits) before casting Blizzard and Hydra.
8% movement speed boots were used, this will help a lot in outrunning the minions.
1) You need to take advantage of Familiar with Ancient Guardian which blocks a hit for you if you're under 35% hp.
2) To keep yourself below 35% hp, take off all your Vit gear, leave the game, then put it back on in new game. You get back some of your hp if you don't leave. Replace all your health regen gear. If they're on, they might put you back above 35% hp.
3) Stay out of his view, so he teleports to you. When he appears, drop a hydra and run away with your speed boost from Storm armor and teleport with wormhole if you can.
4) If he starts moving into your screen, you need to get out of his view or he will summon his minions.
The main problems with this boss are when they charge you and the mob aggro.
1) Charges: to negate the charges, stay as far away as possible or have a pit/unwalkable terrain between you and the boss/minions. Use illusions to make the floating guys charge away from your direction.
2) Mobs: stay at the edge of the map where the monsters are less likely to spawn on you. Try to lure the monsters to your allies, they can do significant damage and tank for you. Use shields and teleport generously, especially with non-boss mobs... it is likely they will catch you at some point. Never getting hit by Izual is the priority though, when he hits, game over....at least with my 27k hp.
Start off slowing and damaging Izual with a small pit, since it is pretty easy to do. Blizzard 2 ends of the pit to slow him enough such that he'll never catch up, I wore 8% movement speed boots for this video.
At 75%, the first minions will come, try to stay at the edges of the map where Tyrael is likely to draw aggro, use escape skills to lose them. Now start making a big circle around the map to draw least aggro and keep a full screen from Izual.
At around 33% hp, the floating minions will spawn. Focus on running/dodging. Tyrael will take care of them and eventually you will be in good enough position to kill them behind pits or not at all. I'm not sure if they disappear or Tyrael kills them since they weren't in view when I did my run.
Nice guides:) Thanks for posting these, especially Izual, since I don't think a wizard guide for this is up yet. It's impressive you are able to do Inferno with 27k. I had serious problems before I got to about 35k even in act 3, and 38k to down Diablo.
Just a question. As I wrote in my little guide, I seemed to had been gaining small amouts of health from an unknown source when I was very low on hp during the Rakanoth fight. I basically did the same as you, but when I was waiting for the jump I was gaining health every half a minute or so. It wasn't regen. I had to get up to 60k hp for that fight, just to counteract that curious thing. Any idea what might have caused that?
I actually responded to your other post about it lol. Did you have galvanizing ward on?
hope they dont fix this rakanoth strategy in the near future.
as a wiz those 2 adds are the most annoing in the whole game, putting them in a boss encounter is just ridiculous.
I know right? Some people suggested frost nova and incinerate them quickly, I definitely didn't have the gear for that to be a consideration.
Why Magic Weapon Venom? Wouldn't something like Electrify and swap cold blooded for paralysis be better for adds on iskantu if blizzard works with electrify weapon that is, if it doesn't wouldn't just a basic force weapon work better then venom?
Hehe, of course not. I had zero regen. It wasnt constant, just periodic, every half a minute or so. The only explanation I could think of recently, is that hydra actually does work with Life Steal, just gives the life back after it's duration is over. I will have to test this.
Edit: Mystery solved by rayraytime, on the other thead. Apparently the expiration of the hydra triggers the health after death hp gain.
That is pretty awesome!! Looks like I'll be saving costs on potions from now on.
Awsome strat for Rakanoth. I can confirm that it still works. The iskatu strat was also helpful because for some reason it didn't occur to me to kite the mobs, despite me kiting pretty much everything in game since halfway through Hell... I even face tanked him on Hell for some reason.
Cheers man, I was already past the first boss but used your tactic for Rakanoth successfully. I tried your tactic, but not the exact build, for Izual and found myself being one-shot by his ice blast (at ~50% hp). I ended up using the Familiar again, staying at 10% hp and never being hit by anything but his AoE blast. I don't know if Blur would make any difference, I really don't have much resistance or vitality.
Instead of Blizzard I used Orb with Tap the Source, and I also used Mirror Images to help soak the charges from the adds and keep him in place so I could spam orb. Anyways, would not have come up with the build for Izual if not for your Rakanoth build, thanks!
Just killed Rakanoth on inferno using a mix of strategies I found here and on other forums.
I had 5k armor, 500+ resistance to everything, 41k+hp and 42k dp without any damage boost.
But 99% of the fight I stayed at about 10k hp.
1. Keep force armor rune and also used 20% damage reduction talent.
2. Used fracture rune and Illusionist.
3. Used Familiar with guardian rune.
3. At very start run to melee and take 2 hits(2*35%) leaves me at 30% life. With no hp regen gear guardian from Familiar starts working every 6 sec.
4. Once below 35% run away and keep blizzard, venom hydra piercing orbs untill he charges, right after charge use teleport away, if adds spawn - first blizzard and hydra orb on adds then back to boss.
Repeat it and boss is dead in 1 circle around the room.
This strat is not easiest by far but it worked pretty good for me and I got it in 4 attempts.
Is the recommended 45k dmg unbuffed, or is that including familiar/force weapon? Also I'm assuming this build doesn't realy care about life/armor/resists, as the point is to not get hit at all?
I don't think you need 45k DPS. You don't even need archon. The point of the fight is to run-run-run-teleport away-turn around and kill some small shadows-repeat till the boss is dead. If you can kill some small shadows faster than they get to you after Teleport, you can beat the boss.

FYI - Cold Blooded served no purpose, I just forgot to change it out.
