Whenever I go back to playing Diablo II, I get really into it, then something always happens that prevents me from playing, I get angry about it, and I stop playing for a while. Then I always go back. What has happened in the past was, I was playing online, and I would get an error about my bnet account (My game is a legit copy so it's not an error from hacking the game or anything). I did find a way around that with the help of Blizzard Tech Support, but then something else happened where I couldn't log in again.
So I decided, enough with this online stuff, I just want to play, so I'll just play single player. I did that for a while, then suddenly all my characters were gone... I have no idea what happened to them. There were no save files anywhere. Well, I went back to playing yet again, and even created backup for my characters, and that had been working.
Well now... just today I try to start the game up, and on the first loading screen (the one with the assassin and the druid) the game just freezes. The animation will play for a bit, but if I mouse over the window or hit any keys the screen freezes, and even if I let it play out instead of skipping the screen it still freezes. I have no idea why this has happened. I went to install the game with the installer files I already have on the computer, and those freeze as well.
I'm not real smart when it comes to computers, so I can't figure out why this would just happen out of no where. I was playing just last night, all I've done since then is shut down my computer, and started it up today, and this happens.
Anyone know what this is? I think I'm going to try uninstalling everything and reinstalling with the CDs, maybe that will help. I don't know what keeps causing these weird errors though...
I have Windows 7, and I'm pretty sure the current version of DII I have on my system is from Battle net, since I still have the install files I originally downloaded saved on my harddrive.
I suggest next time to install D2 to a different folder than programs/programs(x86) since in Windows 7 it likes to protect those folders. Also make sure to turn of desktop composition and to run as admin in the compatibility tab.

On Strike and supporting Fallout 4 Mod Makers
Some fallout 4 mod makers have had their mods stolen and uploaded and downloaded on Bethesda's site for the Xbox One.

What operating System? Windows XP, Vista, Windows 7?
I really have no idea what happened, but it didn't freeze on the screen and I was able to get to my character screen and get into the game just fine.
Computers make no bloody sense to me.
Maybe I had something running that was preventing the game from starting properly?
