I've been playing a Barb as my main and am pretty new to Diablo 3, and ie Barbarians, and that means gearing up, progression and skill sets and passives. I have researched many sites, incl. this one for builds, also the official forums, youtube and a lot more. I'm a fairly cluey sort of guy but in relation to Barb gearing, where to go from here, what is an upgrade, stat stacking and build sets, i don't have a clue whatsoever. Most of the 'guides' or vids on youtube are pretty much for pros, gearing up for MP 10 runs etc, and well, i'm not even close to that yet. Which obviously is not applicable to me.
What i've learnt from scouring sites is the basics, ie stat priority is strgth, vitality, crit to hit, life steal, life on hit, life on kill, but am still struggling with how to go about actually materializing that onto my Barb.
As you can see with my Barb, it is pretty pathetic, and heck, i'll admit that, like i said, i'm a noob.
I am lucky that i have a friend ingame who has given me some legendaries and a few good weaps so that i can actually do some sort of damage and my current skill set allows me to whirlwind down elites and bosses pretty cleanly.
But, that's easy, what i'd like to know from you Barbs (and pros who have played Barb) is where to go from here, with my current crappy setup? Do i grind for upgrades? I'm in Inferno, no MP (i've tried MP 1 got my ass handed to me, which is not surprising, considering my setup) and hoping for legendary drops, do i buy off the AH? My budget is non-existant, i have approx. 700k gold, which is nothing, so that idea is out.
My ingame friend has ran me thru MP 4 runs, so that was awesome, basically building up my paragon xp and looking out for those good drops.
I'm looking at the following qstns:
Do i stack Vitality? Do i stack Strgth? Do i up my crit stats? All of those? Do i Dual-wield or go 2-hander? I've heard that wielding a 2hander doesn't proc crits as much? Not good for whirlwind builds? Also, I've maxed out my Blacksmith and it looks like he doesn't have any viable or noteworthy upgrades to my current gear?
So, with my totall lack of knowledge and budget, what would you do with this Barb (apart from deleting it haha).
I don't mind the incoming flame from you pros, but please go easy on me, i'm new and just looking for some constructive sets of eyes to pour over the Barb and give me some much-needed advice.
You are probably right about the lack of starter guides, most people still playing have been playing since launch probably. Some people might disagree with me, but I find there is an order to progressive gearing.
The most important thing is making sure you can survive, as you gear up, doing more damage means more survival especially once you get a good amount of life steal. At low gear levels though your dps sucks, which means life steal sucks, When you are first starting off at 60 and not buying gear off the RMAH its a little harder to gear. At low dps levels, say under 100K dps with subpar weapons I would go for life on hit over life steal. When getting into inferno I would aim for the basic stats of 30K+ hp atleast, 450 resist all, and 1000+ life on hit. Armor helps too, so don't ignore it, but I tend to find that it simply increases as your gear does. I never have needed to gear for it since Monster Power was introduced, As for the dps stats of attack speed, crit damage and crit chance, I find that increasing your crit to be the most important stat to start with especially as a barb. Once you have your defense and crit chance in a good spot then start pumping up the attack speed and crit damage. This is because many of the top barb dps specs rely on high crit chance to work, and attack speed and crit damage aren't crucial to making it work as much as simply raising your damage. Also once you get over the 100K dps mark start switching out your life on hit to life steal, as it begins to work much better. As for gemming, I would almost always gem for strength unless your hp really really sucks.
But good rule is for early dps stats crit chance> attack speed and crit damage until you get some gear.
