Strange video glitches with shadows/textures

  • I've been getting some strange display issues with environments. I'm not sure how to post images, so I've linked some screenshots I took below. I never got these before yesterday, and now they are everywhere. I did update my video drivers after I started seeing it, but it does not seem to have had any effect. I also tried lowering my in-game video settings: having textures and shadows lowered the frequency of the issues somewhat but it did still occur. Changing the other video options did not seem to have any impact at all.

  • Alchemie,

That won't be something you can fix with settings in the game. It looks more like a driver issue or a video card problem, perhaps due to overheating.

Try reverting to an older driver first. 275.33 ought to be stable (I'm still using them on my GTX580 at home)

    http://www.nvidia.com/object/win7-winvista-64bit-280.26-whql-driver.html

You can also see how hot the card is getting.

Download and run HWMonitor from http://www.cpuid.com/downloads/hwmonitor/1.18-setup.exe

Now start the game and let it run several minutes. Then exit or alt-tab out and look at the monitor program. See what the highest temperature is that the gpu reached.

If it seems to be too hot, say over 80C, you might be able to help it out by increasing the fan speed on the card. There are lots of free third party apps out there that can do this. One I like is MSI's Afterburner. It also displays the card's operating temp and has logging capability.

  • Alchemie,

The driver you listed in the specs is release 280.26. A lot of people are convinced that release can cause overheating of the video card, which is part of the reason I'd like to see you revert to the prior release, 275.33. And you're right,I gave the wrong link didn't I? Try this one:
