The application encountered an unexpected error...

  • This has been happening for about a month now, Diablo 3 won't start up. It starts to, then crashes and gives an error saying, The application encountered an unexpected error. Sadly I have tried every suggestion in all other posts on this issue. Please help! <3

  • Insomnia,

    It's overlay-related.

    DBG-MODULE<0F6E0000 001d0000 "overlay.x86.dll" "overlay.x86.dll.pdb" 0 {56a872b0-80d0-4633-b29d0c200c46e642} 367 1464913048>

Most likely it's Discord. If you use that, try temporarily disabling or uninstalling it and then trying the game again.

  • BAMFRiOT,

Do you have the Discord app installed? If you do, this support article from the app maker should help.

  • Hey Fir3Fox,

In the future, please do create a new post instead of responding to old forum threads.

Thank you for posting the report ID. I do see from it that Windows 7 if really far out of date. Windows being this far out of date can cause crashes like this or all sorts of issues for Diablo III. Like all our games Diablo III is designed to work with the current version of an operating system. Please make sure Windows 7 is up to date. After you install any update, restart the computer and then check for more updates. You may need to repeat this several times till all the updates are installed.

If the crashes continue, please create a new forum post then post a DxDiag and Diablo III Error Logs. Paste the DXdiag and Diablo III Error Logs into the post, select and highlight everything you just pasted, and hit the "code" button (</>). That'll make the information much more readable.
