bizarre texture glitch on characters (screen)

  • I recently switched video cards during the beta test... now this occurs at random times on the main character, NPC's, creatures, shadow and lighting... it's really nauseating to play for a length of time.

  • Bishop,

What did you switch from and to? You might try deleting the D3Prefs.txt file in your My Documents\Diablo III folder. Worst case, you can try reinstalling.

The new card could just be bad too or overheating. Did you reinstall the drivers when you swapped it out? Did you remove all of the old drivers first with a driver cleaner app?

  • Bishop,

It looks vaguely like an issue we see with ATI cards in Wow quite often. There's a real simple fix for it so you might try it to see if it helps. In Wow though, it's a persistent glitch, not random as you describe.

    1. Right click on your desktop, open up Catalyst Control Center.
    2. If you do not have Advanced options to begin with, make that happen.
    3. In the upper right hand corner of the window, go to Options. (newer versions of CCC will have a Preferences selection instead)
    4. Go down to Preferences. (skip if you're already there)
    5. Select Restore Factory Defaults.
    6. Try playing the game again using your usual settings.

You might also want to try running Furmark in the Burn-in mode for a while and seeing if any graphic anomalies show up there.

Keep an eye on the temp while it's running as it can get pretty hot quickly. It's (the temp) shown as part of the burn-in mode.
