Season 20 Meta-Watch: Solo Barbarian

Season 20 Meta-Watch: Solo Barbarian

Several seasons ago, Barbarian players presented extensive focused feedback to Blizzard about the state of the class, and Barbarians have received countless positive changes since then. Season 19 brought powerful changes to the Wrath of the Wastes build, causing the damage increase from the 6-piece set bonus to also affect Rend. Additionally, the Ambo's Pride Mighty Weapon had a new legendary power added which made attacking with Whirlwind also apply Rend, and the total damage of Rend was dealt over 1 second. These changes made the Barbarian become one of the top solo classes of Season 19, so it should be no surprise that Wrath of the Wastes has made a return on the solo leaderboard for Season 20.

Season 20 added the new Horde of the Ninety Savages set for Barbarian with a focus on using Shouts and Frenzy, and many Barbarian players were excited to try something new this season. The power of the new set was unable to match the Wrath of the Wastes set, but it remains a strong option of Barbarian players who do not wish to use Whirlwind. It's possible we will see the Horde of the Ninety Savages on the Season 21 leaderboard, but Barbarian players will need to wait and see if there are any balance tweaks for the set in the next patch.

For now, Wrath of the Wastes remains one of the best builds in the game, and the Season 20 theme allows players to extract even more performance out of the build by utilizing the Focus and Restraint rings with Convention of Elements, Band of Might, and Obsidian Ring of the Zodiac in the cube. At this point in the season, if you're looking to complete your seasonal journey quickly, then Barbarian remains an incredibly strong option.
