Diablo 4 Reportedly in Development Under Code Name "Fenris"
In a recent article from Kotaku, 11 current and former Blizzard employees were interviewed about the Diablo franchise. In this article, it was revealed that Diablo 4 is reportedly under development, but won't be available until 2020 or later. To read more, check out the Kotaku article here.
Fenris is, all of our sources have confirmed, the current incarnation of Diablo IV. Blizzard’s Team 3 has been working on this version of the game since 2016, and some who have seen it say they’re optimistic about the direction. “[Design director] Luis [Barriga] has a very strong vision for that game,” said a former employee, “one that a lot of people are excited about at Blizzard.”
Nothing in 2019 is only teaser as always.
NEW GAME IS ON THE WAY Torchlight FRONTIERS !!!!!!!!!!!!
Damage control everywhere....
I can't even sorta make myself believe this shit anymore.
Just pure BULLSHIT! just trying to save there stock price
Cant wait for such gems as Diablo :Clicker Heros and Diablo: Candy crush edition
Can't wait for Frontiers.
But still waiting on a new diablo
"Diablo 4 is reportedly under development, but won't be available until 2020 or later"
If a game is that close to being "available", then there is enough existing content to announce it in some way. But they didn't.
Damage control tastes bad, and I'm hesitant to be optimistic about any of this. I'll believe it when I see it.
Oh no you don't. Fool me once shame on you, fool me 5 or 6 times shame on me.
here i am just sad the soulslike was canceled :(, other then that, *clears throat* i dont know hte future, so i wont be judging like most of these people above me are, ill stay cautiously optimistic, ill even play the phone game since its a lore dump that im curious about (yes LORE people, its related to the story, a game is more then just mouse and keyboard shenanigans :D)
have a nice evening, may your drinks taste good and pets be cute
Sounds to me like they have nothing, they went "all-in" with the mobile game, now they are scrambling to try put something together to show next year, really sad.
I have no doubt that Diablo 4 is in development. It's been clear for ages now. What I do doubt is how likely it's going to be released within the next 2 years. Probably more like 5.
Why so much complaining? It ruined the other Diablo fan site I used to visit (ii.net or inc now).
I do think they'll release some projects this year. Most likely the app/phone game and a book or tv show. I also believe that they'll learn from announcing D3 too early. We saw (and lost) end boss player kills (rip in half by siege beast), a really cool looking pvp mode, darker themes, talisman, and most of all a better story.... So maybe we'll get a Blizzcon reveal with a D4 release date of under a year to 2 years.
It is better for them to just shut up before they actually have anything to show, they are digging themselves deeper with each of these vague statements of nothing.
I'm calling it right here, right now...Fenris is the first major update for Diablo Immortals!
Funny part is even if they announced an actual D4 for Blizzcon next year, don't expect it until maybe 2021 or later. And with Blizzard feeling the squeeze from activision, expect a whole lot more microtransaction stuff to follow in the same model Netease games are doing like with Diablo Immortal.
They already tried that with the RMAH and that was ridiculed and hated enough for them to remove it. I fully expect the next iteration to be cosmetics only.
Does "Fenris" maybe reference to a Norse mythology setting? With the success of God of War it wont surprise me.
Most Projects that Blizz are working on have religious and mythical codenames. I doubt that it has anything to do with the game itself, but, it clearly has something to do with demons, so Diablo's codename is clearly a reference to what the games core is about.
1996: Diablo
1997: Diablo Hellfire (1 year later)
2000: Diablo 2 (3 years later)
2001: Diablo 2 LoD (1 year later)
2012 Diablo 3 (11 years later)
2014 Diablo 3 RoS (2 years later)
2017 Diablo 3 RotN (3 years later)
2018 Diablo Immortal (1 year later)
Judging by the timeline of things, I would not expect Diablo 4 before November 2022 to be honest.
I can't remember Blizzard releasing a game within 3 years of announcement anyway.
Overwatch was a year and a half after Blizzcon announcement (Blizzcon Nov 2014, released May 2016)
