Too bad they didn't follow the original looks from D2 a little closer. Also the voice is not like the real Mephisto, for whatever reason. Lastly, how come none of the abilities look like Mephisto's actual abilities in D2? They could have done a much better job in these regards seriously. For example "The Butcher" from D3 that is in HOTS follows the "counterpart" from D3 much closer, so I don't understand why they "Care-Bear" and "Sweeten" Mephisto down to almost "Cuddly" in HOTS. If this is where they are going with D4 also, its nothing more than a travesty.

very simple to answer. China doesn't like skulls much less skeletons, and china gives tons of money, so unless they want another game where the chinese version is extremely different (world of warcraft) or that china just outright bans mephisto (like they did with karthus in league of legends) they gotta take in count China.

Well lore-wise, his appearance from Diablo 2 can't really be called "his original" since he was using the body of Sankekur as a host (same reason why Diablo looked different in Diablo 1 and Diablo 2). If i'm being honest though, I would've preferred them to use a design similar to the one from Deckard Cain's journal. Voice isn't too bad, but the laugh did lack that cackle that used to chill me to the bones.

Abilities is simple, Mephisto didn't have a lot of abilities that he used in Diablo 2. Lightning, Ice, sometimes poison, heck even his uber version just had conviction aura as an added skill. So not much they could've done with that. Rather than have a lacking character, I guess they rather try and fit his theme as Lord of Hatred.

I'll be sceptical. It's one of their "multiple diablo projects". There will be a new character or skin for Overwatch. Along with announcement of D3 port, D4 is very unlikely (at the very least it won't be announced for another year or else it would affect D3 sales). Looking at a long stasis in D3, a new character is very likely. And probably it will end like this
