Blizzard Confirms Changes to Primal Ancients Design
Community Manager Tyvalir discussed changes coming to the Primal Ancients design on the Blizzard forums.

Hey all,
As we mentioned previously, getting your feedback on Primal Ancients has been super helpful. We’ve heard some really good points, and along with this, we’ll be making some changes to how these items work in an upcoming PTR patch.
Rather than increase the power they give you beyond Ancient items, Primal Ancients will now instead roll perfect Ancient-level stats tailored to the character class you’re playing when the item first drops. Rerolling any of these at the Mystic will also yield only perfect rolls.
Along with this, these items will be even more rare than they currently are, and will only begin dropping after a character on your account has completed Greater Rift 70 solo (with separate unlocks for Hardcore and normal characters).
Finally, we hear you on wanting Ancient and Primal Ancient items to salvage into something more valuable. With the upcoming PTR patch, Ancient items will salvage into 3 Forgotten Souls, and Primal Ancients will salvage into 15 Forgotten Souls (yay reforging \o/).
We’re looking forward to hearing your feedback once you’ve had a chance to test these changes. Thanks again, and happy hunting.
What are your thoughts on the new direction for the Primal Ancients system?
Am I the only one who would like the option to get deaths breath from legendaries, instead of forgotten souls? I got 1000+ souls, but cant really use them for anything without farming for deaths breath
Even rarer than a 1% drop only after you clear Grift 70? M..kay. Seems a bit much – I feel like 1% chance is plenty rare.
I wish Primal offered something game-changing instead. I'm pleased with this version over the previous one, but it still has a lot of room for improvement. PTR is still young.
Who determines what is "perfect rolls" for the class we're playing? There aren't always agreed upon BiS stats. We need more information on how the Primals will roll.
A change was absolutely needed. This is only a good start.
Legit points. What if primals were, since they're going to be rarest-er anyway, better-er too? Like, guaranteed perfect rolls and +5-10% stats? (whatever number is better balanced so you can nudge the Grift clear an appropriate amount)
Blizzard is rather obviously not overly concerned with power creep, so if going from near-perfect Ancients to true-perfect Primals yields another 4 (or however many) Grift levels, that would, I think, justify how stupidly rare they'll be.
I like the "must have cleared GR70 solo" requirement, because it means I'll never be eligible for one and thus I can pretend they don't exist in the game at all.
Before it was a bad idea that would negatively affect my enjoyment. Now it's a bad idea I can comfortably ignore.
The GR70 requirement is bollocks. For seasons it's just dumb. I mean these are so rare that you can probably get to GR60 or so and not really find a primal ancient that you need anyway, it would so very rare that why not just let them drop? Why not give people a very small chance of getting a primal ancient as they are grinding away up to level 70? The only reason to restrict this is to make this more of an elite item to encourage people to really grind things out month after month in a season, which is dumb. Most people here will like it but why not make it somewhat viable for the more casual seasonal players?
They've never had restrictions like this before, why start now? Knowing these guys like we do they'll drop the restriction 2 seasons from now and we'll all go "yeah that makes sense, why was it there to begin with"? Like most changes they make.
Boring change. In fact it's not even really a change to ancients. It's like almost the same as before.
Why not keep primals as they were first introduced? It was not perfect but at least something new.
Now it's just like no change at all.
I hope they re-consider this. But after all there were just too many whiners. So we end up with the complete same items again.
It would've at least added some sort of item hunt. Now it's just so dull... they could as well delete Primals completely.
I've read some really interesting changes that they couldve make to Primals (e.g. not craftable, higher stat values like crit, cdr & ats, 2 re-rolls at the mystic). But they are all gone, now we're (hopfully not) ended with no change at all...
Pretty simple. It drops a primal okay what is perfect roll in stats for primary "1000" what class are you playing DH okay it is now 1000dex based on class. Oh look it rolled 1000 vit on the weapon. I don't want it, I'm going to reroll for %Damage it can now. It either going to be 1000vit max, Max CDR, Max %damage, Max area damage and so forth.
Example 1: GG BK weapon to drop it has avg dmg, strength, AD, and CDR. All of those stats will be MAX. max avg dmg, 1000 str, 24% AD, and 10% CDR.
Example 2: BK weapon drops again. this time you get avg dmg, Strength, IAS, and socket. On drop MAX avg dmg, 8% IAS, 1000 str, and a socket.
Give someone a hundred dollars, and they complain that it wasn't handed to them in five $20's.
That's the mentality I'm reading.

Here's what I think of Primal ancients: Path of Exile The Fall of Oriath.
So burned out on this sub-par dabbling in D3. It was fun while it lasted. RIP.
Perfect in this case means Max rolls, not the correct stats.
Yay for ultra rare gated drops.....
No wonder i never make it past 2 weeks played a season
& only 3 ppl login in my whole guild anymore.
Not a perfect solution but miles better than the original. Considering my low expectations, I'm reasonably happy. Even with the low drop chance, a perfect ancient legendary is far from anything I've managed to obtain over my thousands of hours played (though it is worth mentioning that I am gearing up 15 different characters).

Why would you need an item if you're already not doing content that can be cleared without it?
You're speaking like your first 100 Primals won't be items you don't need with your worst stat on it. The stats (not the numbers) that roll on them are the same as any other item
