3nkyu > Who thinks the event in d3 is cool not even Blizz probably, looks like
shit contains not even the nostalgia it should and is to be honest a
complete pile of utter bullshit.
for one, i think its cool, but i think most people wont understand, not something to do with nostalgia but something more, im extremely happy they are doing this, also concerning micro transactions, someone (you) havent been paying attention to blizzcon, the new necromancer class has to be bought as an expension class, which makes it a micro transaction, im guessing (see guessing, something people need to do more instead of stating their own self produced facts) they are going to use the necro as a test, releasing more and more content that way as they are releasing commanders in starcraft which as far as i know is VERY succesfull for blizz
i love the events, specially the one in d3, that and the necro are the only reason ill probably play this game, which FOR ME is dead
happy birthday diablo 1.
On the one hand i understand Blizzard but on the other hand i hate them ^^
Diablo generates no Money it just eats Money for 20 Years now
World of Warcraft generates Money, maybe Overwatch and HotS a litte.
So why should they take care about? ^^
You have no idea what are you talking about, don't you? Check financial charts. D3 sold itself in 30 milions of copy. Also some ppl who played d3 but never played D1&D2 bought them. in 2010 there was around 11 milions users of D2 (add those fresh recently copies caused you will have around 15 milions or more sold copies) D1 sold in around 3 milions copies (+ you can add some when d3 was release) now count one copy avarage 10$ for old Diablos and around 20$ for d3. This game generated huge amount of money even without any paid subs.
Blizz have been mediocre when at it's best dealing with D3, the mere fact that POE, Grim Dawn, Korean ARPG etc. outperforms them on a fraction of resources, with regards to more new content and care for the community is the typical sleeping giant syndrome... they really fucked up a golden opportunity to lead, instead they simply wasted the free attention and devotion of their fans, to the point where their negligence and incompetence was a simple fact to everyone.
This Game keeps Blizzard alive!
Server maintenance cost Money -> also the Server maintenance for Diablo 1 and 2 FOR YEARS... even until now!
Developers cost money.
Also there Janitors cost money...
Seems you have no idea what are you talking about, don't you...?
D1&D2 servers had not such high upkeep, comparing to Wow, D3 and other modern games. Old games are designed completely different, than new one. Their source code was very simple and not such demanding for running, therefore on one server cluster you could run couple sessions, and even not powerful server was required, opposite to new games, which use more resources. Currently upkeep (good to superb) of server is cost of 30 to 135 euro, depending on what servers you want to run and with what spec. This is monthly price but biggest game companies have long term contracts signed so they pay less due to amounts they rent... and actually its pay off for them
This particular sentence you used: "Diablo generates no Money it just eats Money for 20 Years now" is just simply bullshit as for 30 milion copies of just D3 without expansion they have earn 600,000,000$ add other parts and expansion and they for sure have still plenty money from it not only from Wows/SC/OW. Also if games brings financial losses - > studio starting to have big problems, which blizzard clearly doesn't have any...example.Look on official blizzard web http://investor.activision.com/results.cfm and check latest financial status(latest is Q3 report) and it states:
"For the quarter ended September 30, 2016, Activision Blizzard’s net revenues presented in
accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (“GAAP”) were a third‐quarter record
$1.57 billion, as compared with $990 million for the third quarter of 2015, an increase of 58%. GAAP net
revenues from digital channels were an all‐time quarterly record of $1.34 billion, growing 18% quarter‐
over‐quarter and 114% year‐over‐year. GAAP earnings per diluted share were a third‐quarter record
$0.26, as compared with $0.17 for the third quarter of 2015, an increase of 53%. On a non‐GAAP
(redefined) basis, the company’s earnings per diluted share were a third‐quarter record $0.49, as
compared with $0.20 for the third quarter of 2015, an increase of 145%.
i bet Q4 report will be also positive..
Of course they are and will be more expensive in the future. But d1&d2 was not produced now they have 20/17 years and after 20 /17 years of distribution they are still sold. First ppl bought CD's now some(like me got Digital copy also) adding D3 which beat record and is on list of games which sales most in history is something and still after summing it there is huge amount of millions which were invested in another projects so they can keep up studio to work. Nothing is eternal right Wow had 13 milions subs (in great times, now is like 3-4 "Monthly Active Users"
It really doesn't matter if the game is making money or not - the point is that it could be making money and they have done nothing with it.
To be fair they are slowly starting to with the Necromancer but that's what 6 months away at the very least while they've spent over a year letting the game die out. There should have been cosmetics out in the store back when 2.4 hit at the latest to help fund more development, but they clearly felt that the game was fine and done with. Then they probably saw all the requests for more Diablo and panicked and got the necro thing started, but it's going to take so long that I'm not sure it'll even be relevant.
Of course it will! Because, you know, financial terms.
There is always a way to adapt numbers and make them look good for you. That's how share markets work. You'll never see a company saying that they have done terribly...They will use financial terms to entrance those less market-prepared .They'll believe anything they are told.
From my own perspective, as a shareholder, current situation of ACTI blizzard is unpromising and unexpectedly bad.
Their 2 month to date share value has dropped in the range of 13-15%. Yeah. Double digits there. HUUUUUUUUUGE.
That's what it really matters. That's money, not freaking-twisted numbers. Let me tell you; shareholders aren't exactly happy.
By the way, the investor web is a private asset made by Activision with the clear intention of showing what they want to show. Don't consider it trustworthy or realistic; it has a purpose:charming and catching those with less financial knowledge.
I feel ya on the content but I would have to disagree that actual development is going to coincide with content release. What I mean is, chances are there is a ton of work going on in the background right now for D3. For the longest time it was the only IP with no form of long-term monetized business model. The good news came subtly with last Blizzcon announcement. The Necromancer character is going to be the start of long-term D3 content development. This is because it sets the groundwork for a platform that will allow for the game to continue to pull in revenue after purchase. This is critical for any product that continually patches and updates the client. This is how free to play games operate without even needing to sell a copy of the game. D3 has been operating off of sale revenue for a long time now, a steady stream of revenue from things like "New Characters to Play as" will ensure we get much more than we've been getting. If there is a lack of content for this anniversary it is surely a good omen that some solid updates to the game are in the pipeline
I'm not sure I follow your logic. I think I know what you would like, but this sentence, coupled with most of your post, sounds like wishful thinking.
This is 2017 and Blizzard have a great advertising team. If you intend to bring "solid updates" for a game or product, you don't miss the chance to do so with the 20th anniversary of one of the greatest gaming hits ever.
Sorry, but that is the plain truth. After all, the "redesign" of D1, the "redesign" of the necro, is nothing new. It's grabbing from the previous game and adapting. That doesn't sound like the work of a team in 1 year.
I would like to ask those of you who are positive (I wish I was!): what do you think that the d3 team has been doing for the last 2 years? Cause what has been announced and/or implemented to the game doesn't justify their paychecks.
Big anniversary FIX THE SERVERS BLIZZARD...
