Season 4 Discussion
Season 4 started a while ago - the meta seems to have settled a bit now, and quite a few players even took a break already waiting for the next one. Rhykker made a video talking about class variety, how he felt about this season, what to expect of future ones and possible changes.
What are your thoughts on the matter? Are you happy with seasons and their exclusive items and rewards? Which changes would you like to see?
Very informative video.
I suppose that there won't ever be a truly balanced season since sets are costantly added/reworked, and the focus of many players on "what's the best class" makes many people play and compete with the dream team for pushing the leaderboards.
Basically, top 250 imho is not the best pool to check for a class power - a bigger pool like top 1000 would be better.
Anyway, results won't change, and i agree wth the fact that the reason behind this situation is the CC nerf that happened before season 4. However, it's not as straight-forward as it's presented in the video and it's not completely related to the fact Monk/barb got buffed over and over through the season (while it's true and had an effect).
We need to separate the fundamental two roles we currently have in D3:
- DPS: well, if you want to have a slot, you need to be the ones that deals the most damage. This has been affected mostly by the progressive buffs mentioned plus the addition of new sets/items that made possible the current new top builds (Uliana at start, Static Charge, HotA, SWK). If you want to push the highest, you need the most damage. Since #1 is only one, it's only natural to find the current #1 class to have a bigger representation (look at DH the first 3 seasons).
- Support: here's the "bigger" issue. before S4, you needed perma CC and Crusader was the best one at that. WD came always as support mostly for Piranhado and Vodoo, to boost the damage of the two dps. Now, since the focus has shifted on survivability, you need builds oriented on healing/damage mitigation to the party.
The fact is that the only two classes that can actually provide that are again Monk and Barbarian. Plus, they bring also increased damage and XP bonuses which we all know are a godsend to farm paragon levels.
Current class distribution is the result of this: both DPS and Supportbest builds are coming from two classes only, with one of the two bringing everything and sup barb being there for War Cry and Ignore Pain. Also the actual damage coming from a Wizard or a DH is not that lower compared to monk; however monk DPS survivabilty is still over the top compared to the other classes.
It's been an unusual combiantion for sure. S5 has the opportunity to improve the game to a completely different level given the base Monks and Barbarians are now.
I stopped playing seasons due to boredom. I played monk and hit p600 within 2 weeks. Went back to NS to farm paragon and got #175 on wd leader boards. Now I'm just burnt out and bored because there's nothing to do except farm paragon. Will probably take a break and see what they announce at blizzcon and from there ill decide whether I will keep playing this game.
So I hope you are right that this will allow blizzard to improve the game to a different level but if crusader doesn't get some much needed help, I will not be returning
i 'm still missing t10 under 3 min and gr 60 solo to get the season journey last portrait. i'm on hc and i'm unlucky with item drops. I got 2 support barb ideas and it's not the most common ones.

Basically , you pull enemies with earthquake, need 3 earthquake piece + 3 wastes + any def weapons, shield, (cube : bloodbrother for the block, zodiac , leoric crown), knocback bracers, ignore pain belt, hellfire amu or ele amu

the "charm barb", you need 3 piece waste, 2 piece immo, charm helm, ignore pain belt, hellfire amu or ele amu/charm amu + any def weapons, shield (cube : bloodbrother for the block, zodiac , leoric crown)
The first thing that really needs to stop is the build defining legendaries locked behind the season wall. Uliana's is currently not playable outside of seasons unless you want to literally deal half the damage. Same was true with multishot DH last season. This is awful design and needs to go away.
Second, their refusal to change anything during a season is ridiculous. Tweaking numbers doesn't take any effort whatsoever, but they won't do that. And next season we will again have overpowered classes that will stay that way during the entire season.
They seem to change things around, but never evenly. Instead of creating a new set that's in line with what you currently have, they make it much better. The powercreep is getting bigger and bigger, and the build diversity is still awful.
Other classes need to be brought on the same level over time, giving them sets/reworked skills (many are still unused) to open up the possibility of more mixed group compositions.
And this is why we need mid season hotfixes to buff classes that are performing way below other classes, thanks rhykker for proofing things are in really bad state.
And they can easily do small buffs once a week, i very much doubt they could fix this imbalance with just 2 or 3 hotfixes in a single day.
all i have to say is, all you people that play the Meta SHAME ON YOU! L2PD3!
