Fan Creation - Necromancer
As we approach Blizzcon, the hype surrounding the possibility of another D3 expansion starts building up. Players are left wondering what will be next for the franchise. Some go further, taking their imagination and . Some Diablo fans love playing the role of game developers, and these types of suggestions have even shaped the current state of the game.
Today we have a treat for viewers who enjoy those. What would a Necromancer class look like if he was implemented in a future expansion, complete with active and passive skills, and even some potential set items - made by Nightcrest87. Amazing material, well thought out and very carefully crafted - check it out!
Set Items
Some potential Set items that could synergize with the reimagined Necromancer's skillset.
Primary Skills
The equivalent of the class' Signature abilities, free to cast and relatively simple. Focused mostly on single target damage, or weaker area of effect than secondaries.
Secondary Skills
Meant to be the main damage dealers and resource spenders of the class. Classic skills like Poison Nova (renamed) and Corpse Explosion are present in this category.
Defensive Skills
Bone, poison and blood based defensive skills, meant to protect the Necromancer or boost his main abilities.
Animation
Raise undead skeletons or golems from the earth to fight for you. These are what make the Necromancer a "pet" class.
Osteomancy
Bone based skills that help you control the battlefield and your enemies. Skills like Bone Prison and Bone Wall are in this category.
Maladies
The Necromancer version of "auras", based on different gems - Sapphire, Ruby, Amber, etc. With passive and active effects for each.
Passives
The list of available passives for the Necromancer.
Necromancer Q&A
Knowing that others could have questions for him, Nightcrest87 has also put together a Q&A thread with some common questions that other viewers might have. Drop by if you want to read it, ask more questions or leave feedback about his creation!
Necromancer Q&A
Nightcrest87, the creator of the featured Necromancer on the front page, made this Q&A for those interested in having a little more insight and knowing his thought process when designing the class. Check it out!
Q: Why Necros? Why not Druids or Amazons or Space Monkeys?
With the Aspect of Death vanquished, the essence of death has spread and ran rampant all across Sanctuary. The Necros were called on duty to harness it back into control.
Q: Why Wisdom? Intelligence seems like the right choice for the Necromancer.
As class balance currently stands, there are 2 classes for each attribute. Adding a 3rd one for Intelligence would require two more classes to be added to get into balance once more down the line. However, if a fourth attribute was added, it would only require 1 additional class to get into balance one more. The question I asked myself was: Could Druids use Wisdom? Since the answer to this was a loud yes, then Wisdom for Necromancers seemed like a decent choice as well.
Q: Why Bile?
All classes use as a resource something that comes from within them, either physically or mentally. Bile comes from within, it is thematically linked to the sinister aspects of the Necros and let’s face, it sounds cool.
Q: Why Shadow damage as a new element?
I don’t know… There seems to be some sort of a link between darkness and death but I can’t put my finger on it…
Q: Why is Shadow resistance the same as Cold resistance?
While adding a new elemental damage to give depth into a class is more or less inconsequential, adding an additional damage reduction option to look out and gear up for significantly diminishes the toughness of all classes in the long run.
Q: OMG! Why not use Lightning elemental damage?
I don’t particularly like Frankenstein’s monster, thematically. Besides that’s WD territory, aka Voodoo monster.
a fallen angel as a class
Don't like the idea of the class. Maybe I am biased as a veteran necro player, but the vast majority of skills still sound like a lot like WD and D3 to me. Two things I don't want to see.
Examples of what I mean:
Not all is sh!t thou. There is some praise to be said about things like the Ossein Armor (which sounds really intriguing and fitting) and bonus points for including a Golem skill.
If the next expansion is in the Skovos Isles, the chances of us seeing a Amazon/Druid hybrid are far higher than seeing a Necro. Don't be fooled by the Amazon's gender locks. Blizzard took the all male Paladins and gave us male/female Crusaders.
Ehehe! Woman Amazon - one boob. Dude "Amazon" one ball xD
New class doesn't need to be a Amazon though . Don't know why the new class HAS to be something from D2. If the expansion is in Skovos there's a good chance we get an Amazon as a follower and a completely new class OR a class that's reworked from previous Diablo games like Pally > Sader, Sorc > Wizard, Sin > Monk, Zon > DH, and though you hate to hear it, Necro > WD.
Notice the Druid is the only type we haven't seen a rework of. So if anything, we see the Druid hybrid or something completely new. Them doing a copy pasta of the D2 Necro when we already have the WD seems really strange.
This is amazing... Not only did you suggest a new class, but you brought said class to life with items AND skills. When do you start working for Blizzard?
I like that.
Agreed!
I hope that Blizzard really steps their game up and adds at least two or three new classes next Diablo 3 expansion. There's no reason not too.
While I'm all for a necro (it's my biggest wish at this point), I feel the author of this one has it wrong. Yes necromancers deal in death and reanimation, but the principles they stand for are not "sinister." Necromancers are a part of a group that desires to maintain the balance in the universe. There actions may seem grotesque, dealing with the dead and all, but they only seek to maintain the balance between good and evil. When one starts to gain an upper hand, they work to push it back. Bile should be balance if we're going for a unique energy name.
It will be cool if there was necro
edit1
I changed my mind druid will be better
..
Cool
This is too akin to Death Knight from World of Warcraft. A for effort though man, kick ass write up. But don't call it necro
While I can appreciate the amount of work that was put into this. Necro wouldn't be my first choice for new class. I guess for me I remember how much they would lag everyone out in D2 and nobody ever wanted necro's in their parties seriously they were annoying as hell. I would be way cool with them being added just not if they are only adding one class. I personally would go with some form of shape-shifter not really sure if the druid is right if I was going to take something from wow I think worgen would be cool I didn't really like them in wow but they could be badass in D3.
Demonic/Angelic shape-shifter could be pretty sweet
I want to see some sort of evil demon class... maybe with a xpan you can destroy the world! if not tho a bad guy would make a good toon to add
