Global Play Reminders - Patching and the RMAH

To access another region, simply click on the "Options" button from the login screen, select the "Account" tab, and then choose which region you want to play in from the "Regions" drop-down.

There are a few restrictions to keep in mind when using Global Play:

Using Global Play After a Patch
Global Play can only be used to connect to other regions that are running the same version of Diablo III as your home region. As a result, you may be unable to log into other regions using Global Play for a short period of time after a patch or game update has been released. This is because different regions will often be patched on different days.

Global Play and the Real-Money Auction House
While players can use the gold auction house in all Global Play regions (the Americas, Europe, and Asia), the real-money auction house will only be available when playing in your "home region." This means that, for characters outside of your home region, items cannot be bought or sold in any real-money auction house. If your home region is the Americas, for example, you will not be able to access the real-money auction house on characters you create in Europe or Asia.

For more information on Global Play in Diablo III, see the FAQ.

This means you wouldn't be connected to General chat when you join a game if you had left the channel in your last game. We'll let you know when we have more details available about this potential change. (Blue Tracker / Official Forums)

Witch Doctor and Inferno Affixes
I personally do this a lot: Link
What spells do you have active, though? Maybe fellow witch doctors can offer up some suggestions for different builds to help better combat waller combinations. (I'm a big fan of Spirit Walk, but that's just me.) (Blue Tracker / Official Forums)

Out of Place Witch Doctor
After playing a little bit of every class, I have found that the Witchdoctor seems really out of place in this game, as if he doesn't belong at all. Anyone else feel this way?

Are you referring to how the witch doctor looks (physical appearance + armor options) or how the hero interacts with other characters in the game and progresses with the story arc? Or is it all about gameplay, and what spells the witch doctor has in its arsenal?

This is just anecdotal, but I've experimented with all five classes on various genders, too, and the witch doctor (female) is my absolute favorite in terms of how she engages with the main the characters and responds to conflict, so I'm curious about what just doesn't "click" for you.

Error 37
We're aware that many players are receiving "Error 37" when logging into the game. This error indicates that the authentication service (the step that verifies your username and password, and checks to see that you've agreed to the Terms of Use) for Diablo III is experiencing is a high volume of traffic and cannot immediately process your login attempt. We're working to reduce the frequency at which players are prompted with this error message and ensure that everyone can log in and play as quickly as possible. (Blue Tracker / Official Forums)

Auction Items
We're also continuing to investigate latency affecting search results, active auction lists, posting auctions, and successful sales and purchases on the gold auction house, and hope to have all transactions running smoothly as soon as possible. Please note that while these issues may cause a temporary delay in having purchased items appear in your Completed tab, your items have not been lost. If you do not see your purchased items immediately, please wait and try again later. This also applies if you are experiencing difficulty transferring gold from your Completed tab to your character’s stash. Though your sales and purchases may not appear in your auction log, those transactions have still been recorded and should process within 24 hours. (Blue Tracker / Official Forums)

Auction House Error 31073
Players will sometimes receive "Error 31073" when attempting to create a new auction. This is an intentional measure to help improve auction house stability by throttling the number of auctions that can be created at any given time. To that end we plan on updating the messaging that accompanies this error in a future patch to better describe why players are receiving it. If you receive this error message when attempting to list an auction you should wait a few moments and try again. While we understand this is an inconvenience, our goal is to ensure a more stable auction house experience for everyone. (Blue Tracker / Official Forums)

Account Security #1
We've investigated several reports of "session spoofing," as reported both in these forums and elsewhere on the internet. We treat these kinds of reports very seriously; however, to date, we have yet to identify a single case of compromise which was the result of a player joining or participating in a public game.

Additionally (highlighted the important part):

Regarding this specific example, we've looked into the issue and found no evidence to indicate compromises are occurring in this fashion, and we've determined the methods being suggested to do so are technically impossible.

Even so, we're continuing to investigate related reports. If you have evidence which supports your claim that such reports are "100% true," then please relay that information to our support representatives. If you're just spreading hearsay, however...well, that's just not cool. Spinning the rumor mill isn't helping the community, it's only making it dizzy.

We've provided a lot of information on the topic of account security recently, which is definitely worth a review. Here's a recap of the highlights:

Account Security #2
Lots of people reporting hack claims. Are they legit or false claims? How does Blizzard know?
You mean of accounts being compromised?

Some reports are legitimate, some are not, and some are simply misunderstandings. The important thing is that our customer support team investigates each and every report of compromise we receive, and will assist in any way possible. In the case of a verified compromise, that may include restoring characters to their previous states and educating players on how to improve security. In the case of a misunderstanding, it may be simply letting players know that they logged into another region on which they hadn't yet created any characters (an easy mistake to make).

If you're curious, our restoration process for Diablo III is available here.

I just want to reiterate one point really quickly, just so that it's perfectly clear for anyone who may be reading (pulled from here):

Over the past couple of days, players have expressed concerns over the possibility of® account compromises.First and foremost, we want to make it clear that the and Diablo III servers have not been compromised. In addition, the number of Diablo III players who've contacted customer service to report a potential compromise of their personal account has been extremely small. In all of the individual Diablo III-related compromise cases we've investigated, none have occurred after a physical Authenticator or Mobile Authenticator app was attached to the player's account, and we have yet to find any situation where a Diablo III player's account was accessed outside of "traditional" compromise methods (i.e. someone logging using an account's login email and password).

This still holds true, and we will investigate every report of an account compromise that is brought to our attention (as noted previously). (Blue Tracker / Official Forums)

Account Security #3
You shouldn't thank us for such a terrible thing. You should be reviewing the information here. I hope that provides some insight into the steps you can take to secure your computer and your account.

Account compromises are extremely unfortunate and it's perfectly understandable that tensions will rise while the topic is discussed on the forums. That said, I'm going to put my trust in the idea that we're all capable of having a conversation without throwing attacks back and forth.

Less yelling. More listening. On all sides.

Here's an example of an exchange of words that doesn't have to be so caustic.

What advice would you give to those of us who are not, as you seem to assume, completely new to using a computer? I have never clicked any links from this forum or any other forum regarding Diablo 3 that weren't from a reliable source or a google search for "act 1 farming spot" or something. If everyone who did exactly what I did got hacked, we'd be seeing probably hundreds of thousands more complaints. Besides, even if they did get a keylogger on my computer without me knowing, why would they give a !@#$ about Diablo 3? Why not just go straight to my bank account?
The argument "you got yourself hacked" doesn't really make sense when I haven't done anything that would get me hacked. And yes, I have already added an authenticator, changed password and contacted Blizzard.

Those are excellent first steps. I still strongly recommend reviewing the additional steps listed in this blog post:

People keep assuming I am a 10 year old kid who see's a website or link that says "Click here and get free gold or items for diablo 3 FREE" and I will click on it. (More Text...)
I understand why you're frustrated, but your situation is going to require investigation by our customer support staff. I can't verify "the error on [your] end" as you said.

What I can still confirm is that our database hasn't been brute-force hacked, nor has the personal information of our playerbase been compromised in anyway on our end. We're not kidding when we always say account security is very important to us. If we found any evidence that even a single account's login information was stolen from us, or our databases were otherwise vulnerable to attack, we'd inform our players and do whatever it'd take to lock everything down.

His computer. Excellent misdirection.
99.9% chance his computer is absolutely fine.
People's accounts are getting brute forced due to Battlenet's coding. Keyloggers... smoke and mirrors, excellent dogma perpetuated by Blizzard.

No. Not that. It flies in the face of all logic and evidence to the contrary. This is a very serious matter. A company doesn't just get away with covering up something like that.

It's an incredibly serious allegation and the ramifications would be so much more far-reaching than what you've witnessed. Again, I understand you're upset, but I caution you not to perpetuate this nonsense any further. (Blue Tracker / Official Forums)

Diablo III API Update
We reported a little over a week ago about new information on the Diablo III API. There have been some more Q and A posts giving a little bit more information on the API.

As for why this is on the WoW developer forum, that was just timing. I'm hesitant to create an entire forum and rev up that machine before the D3 API is actually ready for release. When we get closer to launch, I'll create a forum and update public documentation.

Exposing raw time played to the world at large makes me uncomfortable personally.
If it's a percentage of total time played split amongst classes as Delritha is suggesting, it would not bother me though. Could we get a clarification on which it is?

What part of the API example or previous questions and responses is confusing? I'm not sure what your question actually is.

I suggested that it was percent based time played (1.0 = 100%, .6 = 60%, etc), but some people are thinking it's actual time played.
Yes, to confirm what Delritha is saying, we are not planning on exposing raw play time information, but rather percentages to allow websites to determine what class is played the most.

It would be great if the Hero API included the Player ID in it so you could reference it back.
That would lead to a degree of data-mining that I am not comfortable with.

Somewhat off topic, but what does that mean for linking characters to a player's BattleTag via the WoW API when support is added? It would be amazing to be able to filter out alts in data.
We'll cross that bridge when we get there.

Could we get a percentage of total time played for each hero in the Hero API? I could see wanting to know that I have played my barbarian the most, but that I have played one of the two barbarians I have more then the other.
Although it may be available somewhere, the only information we currently have readily available to use is the aggregate class information. For what it is worth, adding hero play time is something we'd like to do.

Are there any plans to allow Chat to an external client?
Chaud is correct, we have no plans to provide API resources that require authentication or request scope.

@Straton: Is it possible to keep the server status page up to date? I have an Android app sc*##!*% that page until an API is available and I'm finding that the server status page is very often out of date. Its especially frustrating to have users one starring my app and leaving bad reviews because of this. The users don't realize its an issue on your end and blame the messenger. Can you offer any insight as to why that page is often not correct? My app aside that page should be accurate anyway or there is no point to its existence.
Sc%#!##@ the HTML of the D3 server status page is strictly prohibited.

with regards to the item API I'd really love to have access to:

- equipped items
- items in inventory
- items in storage
Don't know if it makes sense to add this information to the hero/career API since that would be quite some overhead and not everyone is looking for that information. I'd prefer to have 3 separate calls where you pass the hero/account id.
Would love to hear your feedback!

We are not planning on exposing the items in your account stash or inventory.

TL;DR: It was a great hassle to give my feedback on this topic. Please post it on the D3 forums.
We aren't ready to spin up an entire developer community forum on the D3 game site quite yet. Creating a preview thread here, where it has been requested and discussed before, made the most sense.

... would it be possible to get time played for each character instead of having it be a ratio? possibly when doing a request to the hero api?
That isn't something we are planning on supporting at this time.

There are no timestamps for progression. Can you please provide timestamps for each milestone in progression?
We aren't able to provide that information at this time.

Did I miss anything about image renders of Diablo characters?
No, we aren't able to support character renders at this time. Sorry.

Also please consider adding official talent calculator hash in the hero API skills so we can link to the official talent calculator for builds.
This is something that we plan on providing.

Is the career profile API the only source for the hero ids or will it be possible to get the id via Armory or even ingame?
Right now, the only way to get hero ids will be through the career API resource. As far as I can tell, there are no ids provided in-game or through any other services.

Could you please add the icon for runes and the id for skills and runes?
If this wasn't included in the original preview data structure then it was a simple oversight.

It is nice to get the (localized?) artisan slug, but what's about the id?
We are in the process of evaluating localized data vs non-localized data. We will expose what makes the most sense.

If the icon will contain the full URL, would you mind to update the icon values for the WoW API?
I believe this is already on the backlog, although I have no idea when it'll get resourced. Maybe around MoP.

The returned array keys are not consistent. For the WoW API you used lower camel case and now you use a mix of dashes and underscores to join words. Example: "last_modified" should be "lastModified".
We are in the process of switching to a more consistant naming scheme for the attributes in our data structures. And again, this is very early in the process so attribute names haven't been scrubbed or cleaned up.

if both APIs share the same request limit, am I correct if I assume that they also share the same error handling?
That is correct.
I could go more into the larger API changes that we'd like to make, but perhaps in another post.

Speed Kills
With the blue post responding to the fast Witch Doctor Inferno Butcher kill a few days ago, more videos of fast kills and high dps have been popping up. Athene took the challenge with an interesting video. The key point to take from these videos is how they illustrate the increased power of the character with better gear in Inferno.

Have any speed kill videos of your own in Inferno? Post them in the comments!
