Late last night Bashiok answered questions on Twitter for a little over an hour! A good deal of these questions are things we already know but we were able to get a little bit of new information. Here is a quick rundown on some of the key points.
- The Rune system appears to be finished
- We should see the new skill system in an upcoming beta patch
- We will see a some class balance in this patch
- We should expect to get another Jay Wilson article "Soon" with information about the rest of the changes
- There will not be a voice chat built into Diablo 3
- Halls of the dead (for hardcore characters) did not make it in, its on their "to do list"
- There will most likley not be any pre-order bonus from blizzard
- Guild features will come after release at some point
- They plan to update and support Diablo 3 for a long time into the future
- They like to keep the level with the content, this means we might see level increases with expansions
- You should be able to understand the story, even if you have not played D1 or D2
- The graphics in the beta are AS IS for retail (AKA no "ultra mode")

We're still just working on the game, but our philosophy is that levels should match the content. If that answers your question.

We think it makes sense, but we're focusing on releasing the game first.

Anything is possible. That kind of secondary item-based stat augmentation is real cool though. Perfect for later on.

Will there be higher texture and / or graphics settings closer to release? For example, Starcraft 2 has an ultra mode.
No what we have is what we have. We could add an Ultra setting if you'd like, but it wouldn't be any different.
Can you address the framerate issues that many of us are experiencing in the Beta? I.E.Stuttering and mass slowdowns during killing
From what I've seen people have been finding some workarounds. (check tech forums) But we're aware of it.

Can we expect another front page "post" (Like the Jay Wilson one) regarding the rest of the changes?

One of the reason why diablo 2 was such a succes was that it was getting better over the years, will diablo 3 follow that patern?

Well, WoW is a subscription game. We'll have patches. New items, probably. New zones or bosses? Probably not.

Very possible, but it's not going to matter for long. You won't be doing single or even double digit damage for long.

No matter what it's going to be a fun story. If you've played the others you'll get something extra, if not, you'll seek it out.

We hope not, we've worked really hard to try to ensure co-op is nothing but bonuses and awesomeness.

You need to be within range (screen and a half or so) to be counted for drops or experience.

I think you can find some good story recaps (if anyone has link pls share) that it'd be pretty easy to catch yourself up.

We'd love to offer some kind of support for social groups, but it's on a wish list at the moment.

Achievement Issues
The issue currently effecting achievements for some is known by blizzard.

Posted Feb 7, 2012I bet we're still months away from release. Hopefully they'll be kind enough to at least give us a release date on Thursday (Feb 9th) but I'm not holding my breath.

Posted Feb 7, 2012i didnt say it was. ive always said that they will announce a release date by end of february then itll be out april-ish. they dont announce release dates at these conference calls. itll be a couple weeks after it
i say very soon because so many ppl still think its not coming out till summer or later. lol

Posted Feb 7, 2012But yeah, a good deal of these were just simple questions, it was meant for the many new people following D3 is what im taken from it, but we did get some good info, AKA we can expect the new skill system in beta soon, and (as of a few days ago) we were told the rune system was not ready, but now its in and good to go, thats fantastic news to be 100% confirmed.
But like I said, if you follow D3 super closely, there was not much new in it

Overall we agree. Next patch (?) there will be a number of class changes.
I agree with this. When my Demon Hunter was starting out fresh, it felt rather weak compared to how the other classes fared.
Can you address the framerate issues that many of us are experiencing in the Beta? I.E.Stuttering and mass slowdowns during killing
From what I've seen people have been finding some workarounds. (check tech forums) But we’re aware of it.
I'm sensing a feeling of "we hear you, but don't think it's really an issue". Could just be my cynical side showing, though.

There is no built in voice chat, at least not for ship. If we try voice chat in another game we want to make sure its worth using.
I’m actually relieved to hear this, as the WoW voice chat has been a lame experience to say the least. In fact, I’m hoping there is never an in-game voice chat for Diablo III.
any plans for any guild/clan features?
We'd love to offer some kind of support for social groups, but it's on a wish list at the moment.
I feel there ought to be such support, but we also need to remember that this is Diablo III not World of Warcraft. So if there were to be some sort of guild, Blizzard would need to first figure out how to do so considering we have a rather small player limit.

Posted Feb 8, 2012I haven't been following any of the news on D3. You got a problem with that? And you wanna know why? Cause as some have already said here, there is little to be said anymore. Any why follow the news that closely when it's just more of being jerked around and them scrapping this, revising that, adding some of this. Get real.
And it's nothing like going up to your professor at the last minute and asking him to explain everything to you from the beginning. I'm all for useless analogies but yours was just the worst.
Anyway...
No offline play. This really makes my urine cloudy, but I guess that's the reality of most games now. You just gotta be online to play them all. Even if I wanted to play single player all the way through, gotta do it online now...
As far as now ultra setting on the graphics, to be honest I think the graphics look pretty good. Maybe just a tad dated and still some things seem to glow a bit more than they should, but I think things look rather nice. I'm just more concerned at how well it plays. And I've had fun in the beta so far for the most part.
Everything else about this game...I can't tell if it's just that I've outgrown the Diablo franchise or if there's truly nothing remarkable about it for me anymore, or maybe it's just all these things. All the excessive marketing for this game has really turned me off. And all the Jay Wilson and Bashiok interviews have made me kind of hate these guys. I hated watching them defend themselves to the community for every little decision the team made on developing the game. I hated how they just couldn't believe in what they were doing and felt they had to engage with the public over every stage of development instead of just making their game and having more confidence. Then at the other extreme they had so much confidence that it simply became conceit. I think that conceit is what made the game take this long. They had too many unrealistic goals and realized even they couldn't deliver so many of their awesome promises in this game. They've nearly developed some sort of...John Romero complex. Come on Blizz! Make us your bitch!
Most of you probably won't even get that reference.

I completely understand your position, but what dumbfounds me is that some people that are in fact curious about D3's development, have gone ahead and asked Bashiok about it instead of reading up on it. It just looks embarrassing, and would get flamed to hell if it was at the Blizzcon Q&A or anything of that magnitude.
For example,
How does crafting work?
It's a bit complex to describe in 140 characters. You already read the artisan section on the website?
I see a direct comparison whereas you don't, oh well swing and a miss I guess.
