Beta Key Contest #4
Welcome to week four of the DiabloFans Beta Key Contest! This week is going to be slightly different than the previous three weeks: this time we're doing a mini-writing contest. If any of you haven't seen already, there is an NPC in Diablo III named Binkles the Frog and we're dying to find out more about him! We want you to come up with his backstory, fit him into the Lore of the Diablo Universe, and simply tell us what in the world he is doing around Sanctuary.
We'll choose the best one or two entries week and they'll be granted a Diablo III Beta Key. In addition, the winning piece(s) will be placed on his wiki page permanently as his "fan lore." Submissions should be posted in this thread and you are allowed more than one entry if you'd like! You have until October 31st at midnight to get your submissions in.
Congratulations to Arvron for winning the third Beta Key caption contest.
At first, Binkles just moved on and talked to the next person. However, soon he realized that nobody would listen to his not-so-fancinating stories. This crushed Binkles and he brainstormed for a solution. After months of being ignored, Binkles finally found his salvation. He merely had to be so annoying while getting their attention that they would simply prefer to hear more of his stories rather than the endless annoyance he would feed them while waiting for their attention. So Binkles was happy again. He could talk to people for the rest of his life without any hinderance.
One evening, when Binkles was walking home to his swamp, he came across a small, floating white orb. Upon closer inspection he noticed the orb had wings. Once he had finally gotten right up next to it he could hear it crying. Binkles was confused by this creature, and asked what was wrong with it. The orb-creature spoke in a high pitched tone and said "I have never had any friends and I am very lonely," as the creature sobbed between words. Binkles felt bad for the creature, but he had an idea. Binkles exclaimed "This is your lucky day! My name is Binkles the Frog, and I am quite the expert in making friends! Everybody in my town wants to talk to me all day long! They can't get enough of it! I'll teach you how to make friends little creature, but could you tell me your name?" The creature spoke with relief in it's voice "Oh thank you so very much! My name is Navi, but What is your secret?" Binkles began to tell the creature about his life and how he got everybody to listen to him. He spent weeks talking to Navi, and she listened intently and learned from it's new master of friendship.
After the training was completed, Binkles sent Navi to town to practice. Navi approached one of the townsfolk and used Binkles' technique, "HEY! LOOK! LISTEN! HELLO? HEY! HEY! LISTEN! HEY! LISTEN! LOOK! LISTEN! HEY! LISTEN! HEY! LOOK! LOOK! LISTEN! HEY! HELLO? HEY!" The surrounding townsfolk all ran away screaming. Now they would have to deal with TWO of these horribly annoying cretins. Navi had a puzzled look on her face. Binkles' had assured her that this would work. She shrugged it off and trusted in her master Binkles. "Perhaps those people were running from something else?" Navi thought to herself. She continued on until she happened upon a young wizard. She approached the wizard and said, "HEY! LISTEN! LISTEN! LOOK! HEY! HELLO? HEY! HEY! HEY! HEY! LISTEN! LOOK! HEY! LOOK! LISTEN!" The wizard was known for his short temper, and was not going to deal with this for another second. "BEGONE, YOU PEST!" he exclaimed as he casted a spell. Navi had disappeared.
After hours of waiting, Binkles went to investigate and found out what the wizard had done. Binkles knew he could never defeat the powerful wizard, so he went home crying, as he couldn't even avenge his lost friend. Binkles never spoke again after that day. He still wonders what happened to his old friend Navi to this very day. The only thing he knew was that the wizard had transported her to another realm, and that a woman caught a glimpse of the destination in the instant Navi was transported. The only thing the woman remembered seeing was a large tree. The woman also swore that she saw a face on the tree, but even someone like Binkles couldn't believe such a claim. Even so, Binkles liked to believe the story. It made him feel like his old friend was alive and happy, making friends in a new world. He even thought someday he might go see her and her friends. Surely they would go on great adventures together and she would be happy forever.
THE END
During a midsummer night of April, a frog decided it would be a good idea to take a journey,
A journey to a faraway land, a journey to Sanctuary, this trip turn out life changing for the little frog, who would soon come to regret his journey.
Without going into details of what is a long and arguous journey, the frog came upon Azmodean, who quickly took a liking to the little frog with so much spunk. From there on in he was charged by Azmodean to lead the assault upon New Tristram.
The end?
Binkles the Frog
Binkles the frog and his family lived happily in Elwynn Forest along the shores of Stonecairn Lake. One day though, the Murloc tribe invaded his village.
The Murlocs were brutal and savage, sparing no one, including women and children. Binkles watched in horror as the Murlocs savagely raped and murdered his wife and daughter in front of him.
After the attack he was taken in as a slave of the Murlocs. But this was not to be his fate. He managed to flee his captors, and in the process killed one of his prison cell guards, and found an amulet on his corpse.
Binkles then fled to another land known as Sanctuary. In a town called Tristram he met a man by the name of Deckard Cain.
"My that is quite the treasure you have there. This amulet is the powerful Murlocket, and will give you the power to smite your enemies" Said Cain.
From that day on, Binkles was on a path to avenge his family, and destroy all evil in his way.

The Tale of Binkles The Frog.
This is the story as it has been told by Deckard Cain.
Stay a while and listen, if you want to hear more about the tragic story of Binkles the Frog, as he's known now. But that hasn't always been his name.
Long ago, legends say that the forces of Heaven and Hell we're locked in an endless battle for the possesion of a mystical item. The fighting lasted for so long that some Angels and some Demons started wondering why they were fighting in the first place, and that lead to the rebellion of some of those Angels and Demons and to the creation of Sanctuary. (If you want to learn more about it, i've three words for you : BUY MY BOOK ;D(AKA:Book of Cain)).
That world was but a raw essence of what it's today. It was nothing but endless deserts, not a single living being except for the renegade Angels and Demons. But then something changed. From the matting of those beings, new life was born. They were the Nephalem, creatures of incredible power, which some legends believe to be the origin of humans. But then something happened which no one expected. The world started changing. What was once nothing but dead started filling wih life. The endless deserts turned into forests, with creatures of all shapes and forms. And so the Nephalem, and his creators lived in peace.
But as so many good things, that wasn't meant to last. Inarius, the leader of the renegade Angels, saw the Nephalem as a thread, and wanted to exterminate them. Lilith, the leader of the renegade Demons saw them as a way of defeating the forces of Hell and Heaven, and putting an end to that bitter war. They both started fighting, and finally Inarius locked Lilith in The Void, a mysterious realm as far away from Sanctuary as possible.
When Sanctuary was found by the Angels and the Demons, they both tried to convice the Nephalem to join their side. That lead to many fights between Hell and Heaven, aswell as the followers of both sides. Using greed and desire as weapons to control human's will, Hell quickly grew a large ammount of followers. Eventually, a group of them called The Black Chain grew so powerfull, that Heaven started to fear it would become a danger to their own safety.
An angel named Jhiy, who was the Guardian of Truth, was then ordered by the Archangel Imperius to slaughter them all before they became a thread. However, Jhiy had watched those creatures, and he could not pretend he did not see the Good that filled their heart. When he refused to kill the creatures, Imperius decided to do it himself. Feeling pity for the creatures, Jhiy tryed to stop him, and he tryed to battle the Archangel. But his power was just no match. Imperius locked Jhiy in Sanctuary forever, and turned him into a creature that was despised by man kind. A frog.
And so, he was forced to live among those he'd tried to protect, unable to help them, as he saw the world that was once green be corrupted by the endless forces of hell.
And there he remains. And that's the tale of Binkles the Frog.
During the crisis that befell Tristram so many years ago, many powerful heroes came to battle the evil which spewed forth from the labyrinth beneath the cathedral. Many came in search on glory and treasure, but some desired to unlock the knowledge contained deep within that ancient place. Among these was a rather eccentric mage by the name of Zhar. Brash and always on edge, many thought Zhar to be mad, but really he was just very dedicated to his work studying ancient texts. That and he would get REALLY pissed if you touched one of his books.
Nevertheless, one of the strangest things about Zhar was the familiar he decided to create for himself to guard his tomes while he journeyed into the labyrinth. It was a frog whom he called Binkles, and it did indeed do its job well. Whenever any of the townsfolk would even go near the small cottage he kept on the out skirts of town, that blasted frog would croak louder than if Griswold was pounding his anvil with a 500 pound hammer! It was unholy I tell you! And sure enough Zhar would emerge seemingly out of nowhere a few moments later and chase off those that had dared offend that frog.
Then one day, Zhar did not return to his little house full of books. Everybody in town knew he was a very powerful mage and would not fall easily to the petty skeletons and zombies that infested the catacombs below the church. Days passed and we all feared the worst. Being the scholar I am, I decided it my duty to preserve whatever volumes he may have pulled from that dungeon hell, so I paid a visit to his home. To my surprise, I found the place barren! That is except for that sad little frog Binkles, left by his master, now silent, without purpose.
So, I did the only thing I could, I took that wizard-spawned demon-frog to the small creek that ran between town and the witches shack and let him go. It later crossed my mind that this was a poor choice as Adria was known for using frogs in a variety of her stews.
Alas, Binkles the frog has never left the area surrounding Tristram. To this day that rather unique frog can still be seen throughout the ruins of old Tristram, still searching for the master that abandoned it long ago…
And yet nobody listened...they were too busy waiting for their chance at the Diablo 3 Beta.
Binkles is of the original nefailem and an immortal Frogonite warrior of legend. Of heroic stature, he towered over his peers by centimeters, bringing a sense of awe to those in his presence. His copious Yeast-sacks sprawled across his back were considered the most beautifully bulbous and putrid by his people. Binkles proved his valor on the battlefield time and time again, a courageous warrior of the Mark. As a seasoned veteran, his conquests would bring the nefailem control of valuable territories, such as the Great Forest of Reeds, and impenetrable fortresses of safety, like the Log.
He was also a renowned crafter of powerful artifacts of magick, forging such totems of power as the Shiny Black Rock of the River and the Half-digested Thing I Found Under a Rock.
Binkles is widely known for having Marked one of the most prolific Angels in Sanctuary, Tyrael. The Angel of Justice has publicly denied any such Mark, much to the skepticism of single female-Angels.
As a user of the Frog, the sacred fighting style of the nefailem, Binkles felled countless Angel, Demon, and nephalem alike. The ancient practices of the Frogonites were supposedly difficult to observe, as their warrior craft tended to stray from the front lines and into the blankets of unsuspecting victims, where they could spread their deadly Mark of Yeast.
The Mark of Yeast is especially potent against Angels. Lest the Marked Angel be really itchy in embarrassing places, they must constantly submit themselves to the only known antidote for Angels: insubordinate amounts of gold. Marked Angels often must resign themselves to petty mortal tasks, such as resurrecting deceased mercenaries, in order to obtain such vast quantities of gold required for antidotes.
Despite the vast, untapped power of the nefailem, their race somehow suffered relapse at the combined, nefarious efforts of Angels, Demons, and nephalem. Sometimes they stepped on them, sometimes they used them as fishing bait. Other times the nefailem were used as objects to be thrown at various hard surfaces, such as the ground. Slowly but surely, the power of the nefailem waned.
Legend has it that following the capture of the Prime Evils in Sanctuary, an agent of Hell traveling through the jungles of the East discovered a vibrant colony of nefailem. Shrugging to himself, he squashed a few underfoot and corrupted the rest into servitude under Hell. Thus, Frog Demons were made, bearing the name of their sacred warrior-sect in mockery.
Elsewhere, vast cities of nefailem were captured by masked men of the deep jungle for use in their wicked spell-casting. The once-proud nefailem were subject to slavery as mere demon-fodder, summoned upon the whim of the caster in droves to spread their Mark. Some of the clever nephalem even exploited one of the greatest weaknesses of the mighty nefailem: they explode after falling a few feet.
Binkles the Frog is unconfirmed to be dead or alive. Presumably he is in unending search for the remaining of his kin. Rumors say he is also in search of heroes and mercenaries to assist in his plight: to resurrect the nefailem from the brink of existence.
James Bink was a proud blizzard employee. Everyone loved him. One day he found out Mike was making some serious money in the RMAH from diablo 3. James thought "it was be great to make some extra money so I can prove to my ex-gf that I am not a Mom's 'basement special'. James started playing diablo 3 and putting items up on the RMAH. The items weren't selling and James was getting very mad. "I know these items are crap, but people should buy them!" said James.
James was also interested in the PVP Arena in Diablo 3, but sucked. "I need better gear, thats all." said James. Mike came up to James one day and asked him how he likes Diablo 3. "It sucks! All I do is die, die in Inferno, and I cant sell items." said James. "It takes time.' said Mike. "Not all people are kick ass like me." James grew mad and thought of the idea to dethrone Mike as CEO.
James ran into Mike's office and took his computer away from him. Mike tried to get it back, but James was to strong. As James ran out the door, Mike used the Blizz Signal. All employees know what that means, 'shit is going down and its time to pwn!" James ran down the stairs and there was Chris Metzen there to give him an ear full of lore he didnt know about. James barely got away, until he ran into Jeff Kaplan. Jeff was on him about how this wow exp would be better then ever!
Tired and stumbling around, James kept running. Jay Wilson ran into him and showed him why Diablo 3 Arena was changed to Deathmatch style. Jay kicked him and James drop the computer. All the other employee caught up with him and needed to figured out what to do with him. Jay grab his magic wand and turned him into a Frog. Mike suggested that he should be put into Diablo 3 game as a joke.
With a swift hand, they put him in the game and named him Binkles the Frog. They added a Authenticator to his account so he couldn't escape.

Mist surrounds the truth about this creatures. Some believe they've incredible powers, and that they played a bigger role in the Heroes sucess then what people know. All the stories say that the Hero and his companion share a great connection, and that many companions even gave their life to save their Heroes. So one thing is certain. Those weren't common creatures. Something, some power, made them different from their kind.
The last of this creatures to have been seen is Binkles the Frog. He was once the companion of Aidan, the eldest son of Leoric. He had followed him in many of his adventures, and the prince kept him always around.
However, when Aidan ventured into the labyrith in the hope of slaying Diablo, he asked him to wait for him to return. And so he waited. For many years he waited, he heard stories of a dark wanderer who death followed wherever he'd go. Even though he didn't want to admit, deep down he knew that it was his beloved Hero, corrupted by the evil that was hiding in Tristram.
But still, he waits, in the hope that one day he'll return... And there he'll be until the end of times.
He crept and hopped around his log, but how little did we know, it was from that his power sourced.
There came a day he chose to show his mettle, he tele'd his homey horse.
Now homey horse, don't you fret, we will find these fiends of course.
For days previous, the foes had siphoned his mystic hay to empty..
No matter how it seemed tedius, binkles down till lifes end to keep the fiends at bay.
He watched, he stalked, he barely breathed as he watched his prey advance,
For the fools to return as sudden as they leaved, would leave their live's to chance.
He yelled out now, homie horse appeared! And was unfortunately left feared.
Diablo rumbled, it was a horse of course, and no match in this tournament of blood.
Now binkies trembled, he struck with his tounge, to only have it severed.
Diablo cried, for you my tadpole, to beg for death? Im afraid is your only leverage.
He hopped, he leaped, determined for his log.
But sadly in the midst of fog, he never saw his foe.
Now binkies rests within his token, dreaming of the day
When a hero as strong as you, comes with justice to have his power awoken.
Hope you enjoy it :D. I understand leaved isnt a word, but in song (Which is one of the oldest ways of telling a story) Some basic rules of english may be warped for the final product.
As the sun pried his eyes open one wintry day he realized he was there. He had achieved it all, the treasures, the gold, and the admiration he so greatly desired. He stirred in confusion, however, as a deep sense of hollowness bore inside his stomach. Had he not achieved everything he had wanted? Was this not the ultimate feat of man? He searched across the room, thinking that if he could just tell someone of his tales and loots he would feel at ease. He found Deckard Cain, a revered man of the town, and explained his story. Cain, impressed, clapped his hands and went back to tending his writings. Jordan became frustrated. He began to travel, killing demons effortlessly and anyone else who might look at him the wrong way. But, nothing seemed to appease his sense of loneliness. What was he missing?
Alas, upon finding a hefty treasure beneath a craggy tombstone, he saw a plain frog. The frog starred aimlessly into his eyes. In a daze, he took off his equipment and sat down next to the frog. It was so simple, he chuckled to himself. “Binkles,” the frog croaked. And with that Jordan wandered back into town—his gear remaining behind.
