Our logo is amazing and one that we have used for years. Jetrall outdid himself when he made this for the site. We have used it for just about everything that we put our name on and it has become a symbol of DiabloFans. However, just like everything in life, time has passed and change is needed. While we all love our logo, it has unfortunately become outdated. With Diablo III just on the horizon, our beloved Lord of Terror no longer resembles this face that we have come to love and fear. With Diablo's new appearance, we are looking to change ours as well. DiabloFans is looking to update our logo.
Where do you come in? Well, we are asking the community to come up with our new logo. Something that screams both Diablo III and DiabloFans. Whether you just update the look of Diablo or make something completely new, we are open to any and all ideas.
The Rules:
1. Members are allowed to enter as many submissions as they want.
2. The logo must be unique, original and reflect both Diablo III and DiabloFans.
3. The image size should be a minimum of 450 x 200 pixels in width and height. (Please also keep a file with as many layers as you used for future editing)
4. Entries should be submitted in the official submission thread.
5. Entries will be accepted until October 31, 2011.
6. Once all entries are submitted, the DiabloFans staff will vote on a winner for the new logo.
The Prize:
The prize is simple. Your art will be represented on DiabloFans as well as trademark our site on any other ventures made by DiabloFans. The winner will also receive a custom user title reflecting their contribution.
If you have any questions, please feel free to ask in this thread. All submissions should be made in the submission thread.
If you are planning on trying to match the current font, it is a mixture of Abaddon and Blade 2 with some custom edits to the lettering.
For inspiration, here are a few pictures of the new Lord of Terror for referencing.

No. We've definitely had 1-post wonders win these kinds of contests before.
I just posted my logo in the official thread and was wondering if you guys could give me feedback so that I can improve it. The other logos are looking swell too! GL all.
If not, I'd highly recommend an opportunity to do so. I was just browsing the official thread and there are some very compelling entries already, and some not so much.
I could see the potential for this to turn into a 'biggest LoL factor' competition quickly though. Maybe letting the users vote on the top 5 (serious entries only), would be something to consider? <shrug>
That is unfortunate.

Alternatively, the owners could select a top 20 (based on submission numbers) as a polling group for the general public.
The poll would be responsible for whittling the group into a top 3 or 5. Which would then serve as a final selection group for the owners!
As someone that works in promotions/marketing, it's mostly a grey area (might be frowned upon, but technically not illegal) until you start making money off of it. I'm sure Blizzard is well aware of the copyright laws surrounding their art assets.
An easy example is that Blizzard provides art assets for you to create a fansite with, which include full logos, copywritten art etc. While I'm not entirely sure if those specific assets were granted a special kind of license, generally speaking, if there's no profit being made directly from those assets, there's no problem (and afaik, ad revenue is excluded). For example, if Diablofans picked a logo, and decided to create a t-shirt and tried to sell it, they could be sued. Even promotional/giveaways (free) isn't allowed since you're distributing their property.
Also keep in mind, I do live in Canada so maybe it's a bit difference, but copyright laws are typically international anyway.
i kinda dig this one (posted by Geesixyo). needs to look more like diablo though. currently looks like a bull.
What do you think:
Is this part of the background(so there's a hole) or is it part of Diablo?
It looks like part of the background to me, but I can't decide.
@blizter: I think that's one of the real competitors here.
Looks like it's part of Diablo to me.

After seeing these pictures I decided it's part of the background, there is a hole there.(not hole exactly. There are horns.) This can be useful for people working on the new Diablo.
Well yea, it can be part of the background because of the angle. But in your image, what we see is the neck, most likely.
