When Diablo III is finally released, we will all have a tough decision to make. Which class do I play first? Now, I am sure many of us will try out all five classes eventually and play all of them extensively; however, there can only be one first. Without any actual gameplay experience, what do you base this decision on?
Looks: With Diablo III, each class is going to be much more unique looking than the previous Diablo games. Not only does each class have their own style, but every piece of armor is being specifically designed to look unique to that character. So, if a Barbarian and a Witch Doctor equip the exact same gear, they will still look completely different from each other. Along with this, there are 18 different levels of gear that will each be distinct looking from previous levels. Does the look of the classes determine whether or not you play that class first?
Archetype: The archetype of the characters is a quick and easy way to distinguish them apart. The Wizard is your classic spell caster, the Demon Hunter your ranged combat character. Many people have a specific archetype that they like and play through various games and Diablo will not be any different. Will this be the main deciding factor for you?
Play Style: While archetypes determine the type of character in a broad sense, the actual play style helps distinguish that character. A great example of this is the Monk and Barbarian. Both are melee close-combat fighters but both play very different from each other. Perhaps you prefer the hulking tank melee fighter who can take it just as well as he can dish. Perhaps you are more keen on the fast combo style of the Monk who comes out of the battle just as quickly as he entered it. It's these specific differences that may have you choosing one character over the other.
Skills and Traits: With limited knowledge and experience with how the characters play, sometimes we have to make our decision on theory crafting with the limited knowledge we have. Many of the characters' skills and traits have been given and we can already plan builds based on these. A summoning Witch Doctor or an Ice Wizard may just be the build you are looking for. Will this knowledge of spells and attacks determine whether or not you play that class first?
Lore: Many people enjoy the story just as much as they love playing the game. Many past characters like the Necromancer has a deep story that goes into that character. It is possible that the Barbarian is the same one from Diablo II which will add to his story. Even if not, each class will have a unique point-of-view on the events happening and NPC's will interact with each class differently because of this. Will experiencing the story of Diablo III from a particular character be your choice for who you play first?
Friends: Some people choose who they play based on what their other friends are playing. Maybe you are still indifferent on which class to choose so you wait to see what everyone else picks. Maybe nobody else wants to play the Witch Doctor so you decide to go with him to help round out the group of characters you get to play with. Do others help you make your decision.
Other: Maybe none of these are used for you to make your decision. If so, what do you base your decision on.
Also, feel free to express which class you are planning on playing first with the five Diablo III characters' emotes.
So... Looks.
I don't think they gave up on the Paladin at all. In fact, I believe that there was a blue post about what had happened to them, alluding to some kind of reveal inside of Diablo 3. I can't find it so I may be totally wrong, but I do believe they plan to do something with the classes from Diablo 2, just as they did with the ones from Diablo in the sequel. I would not be surprised if they were released in the way of an expansion pack, for instance.
As far as there being two barbarians, I'd say there are no more two barbarians than the Assassin in Diablo 2 was a second barbarian. They have different playstyles and most likely different weapon types that they focus on.
I was a sad panda too when blizz told us that the only returning class is the barb but it was for the best and I'm glad there's 4 new classes in the game but yeah paladin could've been my first choice no question. I'm pretty sure there will some kind of paladin (knight or maybe templar, the followers themselves becomes one of the next heroes) on xpac.
Anyway, I chose play style now that paladin is out then archetype then skills and traits next of where I'm basing on what class to play. To tell you the truth I'm undecided again of what class to be my main. The only thing I'm certain at the moment is witch doctor will be my last class to play. Do not flame me, it's just a personal choice because I'm not a big fan of summoning class.
So to answer what class to play first, I might go for barb but doesn't mean it will be my main. My main will be decided after I played all 'cept WD.
Personally it will be mainly play style for me. Playing d2 I enjoyed playing both the necromancer and the amazon therefore I think that it will be a debate for me to chose the demon hunter or witch doctor . But who knows
I love to smash / get my way through with brute force it's always fun to get in the middle of the action and tear up everything around you.
Monk
Demon Hunter
Barbarian
Wizard
Witch Doctor
those icons made me smile
I am the same way. For some reason I gravitate toward the most underwhelming class or the class I feel people are least likely to pick. So probably DH for me.
This is a great way to say what I felt but could't find the words!! Thanx bro!
I actually think that my personal order of trying the classes is exactly the same.
Given this, I am more than content on playing the remaining two classes, my Number One choice being the (too many years as a healer, it's time to get mad), with the following closely behind (mostly because I just finished playing Diablo 1 again, playing as the Rogue class).
Hopefully the team will be rounded enough to rub 's face in the dirt.
In other words, barbarian.
My first character will be a Wizard, but I'm uncertain if I'll go melee or spellcaster. My first character in Diablo 2 was the Barbarian which I chose mostly because I found the Warrior the easiest to play in D1 and I thought the Barbarian looked badass. I didn't know anything about D2 at that stage, not even the skills.
I'm a necro player, I like summons, so WD will be my first.
But DH feeling, look and skills seem quite interesting and I think it'll be my second.
