So, for any of you who were hoping for World of Sanctuary (the pet name we've all given to a hypothetical MMO installment in the Diablo series), this won't be it.Quote fromThe unannounced MMO in development by World of Warcraft creative studio Blizzard will not be based on one of its established franchises, a representative iterated today.
"We've already stated it'll be a brand new franchise, which means the lore, art, and game play are being developed entirely from scratch," said Blizzard community manager Zarhym on the World of Warcraft forums, in a post noticed by Worldofwar.net
Zerhym referred to the new MMO as a "shell of a game thus far." Blizzard has previously said that the title is being developed using the World of Warcraft engine for testing purposes.
"It's an overwhelming process, but a process through which we excel," added Zerhym. "Our track record supports this."
While not particularly Diablo-related, it is in Blizzard's realm. I'm curious to see what will come out of this MMO- if it will be a reliving of WoW or something new and fresh. I wouldn't put it past Blizzard to make good on this opportunity for an MMO with better graphics, better questing, and just about anything else.
They've also explicitly stated some things that they are going to be working on with the new project- particularly the lore of whatever game this might be, artwork, and gameplay. It will be interesting to see how they are going to redo the age-old MMO gameplay style.
Thoughts?
(This was a tip-off from milanv, if anyone wants to pay him a rep point or two for the find )
I'll just wait a few years until they announce what it actually is
As long as it is NOT related to either Diablo or Warcraft, epic win.
Cocky bastards
I have a nice loong mental list of things they did wrong, so, here's just a small fraction of some stuff...
A lot of things rly. It was very team-oriented(even if u wanted to play solo, it was very hard to do so). Weapons and armor system is...bad... Everything is instanced... I like the instance based quests, but they should have added in some non-instanced based stuff as well. Way too little magical attributes for items that you can find. They still don't have all the core classes and races... etc...
If the team that worked on DDO knew what they were doing, and knew what people wanted, they could have made it into a game that could have outranked WOW, but, they failed miserably... Their key failing point was them trying to keep it as much like the pnp dnd as possible.
Well, someone has to say this..But, in the end, most games are using the same game engine, they just tweak it for the specific needs.
They normally choose a game engine that has the basic idea, or the most versatility for what is needed. Then they tweak it..
We won't see Diablo III for another year.. This game has just been confirmed of it's existence, we have at least a 3 year wait. Then, they won't release a new game like this until D3 starts cooling down.
It is probably going to replace Wow. They will probably make it P2P, so they can keep their "greatness". Or it will be a completely new and original MMO. I will probably play this when I get out of college (I'm in 10th grade).
I think that D3 will come out around 2010, lets say nov, just for the heck of it. The game will keep its Initial addicts for the first 1 to 1.5 years. Maybe at 1 year after release, there will be an expansion. so in 2011 we get expansion 1. At 2012 we get expansion 2. At 2014, we will probably get the 3rd expansion.. IDK
But this game's life will certainly last till at least 2014 until we start to get a wee bit bored of it..
I'm not a Wow hater, but I just don't enjoy it. The only game I every payed, myself monthly (other than xbox live) is COH. I've played all the other p2p games; but they are all...not worth it.
I would never pay about 15$ a month or pay 12$ a month (by buying 6 months at a time) for such an outdated game..
I personally get bored of the constant grinding of the game. Also, I don't like the story, it isn't as Epic, to me at least..
(I know, D2 is grinding too; I just can't explain why I prefer it. If someone has any opinions, please share.. I really have no idea why d2 is soo good, when it is soo similar to other games..)
Truthefully, If blizz just started, and made warcraft, I wouldn't think in my right mind that they would make games good like Diablo, D2, lod, starcraft, and yes, even Wow..
It takes a really creative story. A really imaginative artistic team (so they don't steal other game's graphics), good/efficient programmers, and directors.. (and all those other stuff, like sound etc..)
