Destructoid recently reported about one individual who took it upon himself to combine the game "Doom" with the style of Diablo. The game is called Doom: Fall of Mars, although I prefer to call it Diabloom or Doomablo. Regardless of what moniker you assign to it, it's a really interesting and original fan project even though it's still in the early stages of development. Seeing Doom in Diablo's isometric style of gameplay, complete with a similar inventory setup, is pretty friggin' cool if you ask me. Take a look at some of these screenshots:
If you're interested in trying it out, there's a demo up for download on the game site which is about 3 megs. The demo contains three levels, and I definitely hope this is a project that he completes. You can learn more about this great fan project here.
Graphics need a serious update, but the mechanics seem to be fairly solid for a developmental stage game. I'm interested.
That is the beauty of it though Jetrall...we have all played doom and a game where diablo's gameplay and isoview combined with doom maps/monsters/graphics is the styled theme. A- in my book for creativity and epicness lol
It will be interesting what kinds of games are created in the years to come after Diablo has re-entered the gaming scene, because all games are affected by other games in some way. Maybe you will get that Diablo FPS someday, Equinox You never know.
Edit:
At the post below me's response: No, I'm not saying I advocate it.
@Equinox: although I hate to mention it because the story sucks and it's basically a mockery of it's own title, there's always Dark Messiah of Might and Magic. Just it doesn't have any multiplayer. Well okay it does but it isn't any good. Great gameplay though.
DMMM is a slasher. You could as well say Hellgate is a shooter. First or third person does not make it a shooter.
Heretic, heXen, and heXen II are FPS.
I've been waiting for some good Fantasy FPS lately but all we ever get is these backwards conversions? Isometric DooM? MMkay...

DMC, an FPS? Honestly?
The third one looks like a slasher also. That's the problem with these games. They're all about swords.
When I say "FPS" I mean a game just like DooM or HL2 but instead of real weapons you have magical weapons and you're in magical places fighting magical monsters. I do not mean a first person slasher with 5 different types of swords or complicated slashing soul-calibur style combat.

That actually sounds like a really good game (1st fps fantasy). I don't believe I have ever played one in that genre.
how do u dowload it? i clicked all 3 of the down load links and it led me to these sites where u had to download some kind of client first. Is there a way i can download it for free? or at least virus free?
This doom conversion is cool in itself but there honestly isn't anything amazing about it (most referring to whoever made the "you should work for blizz" comment). Isometric games are pretty easy to make these days and there are even some programs for that, although the actual idea is cool.

What they should do is make Diablo an FPS. But nobody has the guts to do a fantasy shooter anymore.
Apparently, these are all "fantasy shooters" for next-gen. systems, a genre which I didn't even know existed before:

I would never play a Diablo FPS.
UPDATE: Just played that demo. It rocked! Although he limps. Badly.
You apparently find this during Hell mode (It's real I promise).
Going to try it out..
fucking awesome
diablo+doom=sex
sex... ORLY?! No, it was pretty awesome though.

Actually looks a lot better than that now.
