Diablo 3 Visual Status Indicator

Bashiok informed some visual mechanics on certain monsters that may offer some valuable info about them in the shape of a status indicator. In this case, the Skeletal Shieldmen are used as an example.

Bashiok: The glow on the shields of Skeletal Shieldmen actually serves a couple purposes. First it's an easy and quick way to identify them from other skeletons, that's a given, but the second function is that it's actually a status indicator. Obviously as you hit them they'll block the hits with their shield, but they can only block so much damage. As they block damage the glow dims. It's a useful tool that visually indicates how close their shields are to breaking.

D3 might not even have an 'act' system, perhaps a system reminiscent of acts but still not exactly the same.

i think someone from Blizzard already talked about bosses/mini-bosses.
He said that you'll be able to see the damage you do with him getting wounded more and more, eventually even losing some limbs.

after the demo video, in an interview for gamespot i think, Wilson said that "Act 1 is almost completely playable, and most of the other classes are playable".

the last interview i read/saw that invovled the acts i remember them saying act 1 is done except one field. and that the art team is starting on act 2. and that they will have around the same number of acts as diablo 2.

No problem with having acts, but I hope they are BIG. And by that I don't mean just BIG, I mean HUGE!

well....i just hope they do something different with d3 then d2 in the quest department. it seemed really linear gameplay in d2. just quest after quest on a path. maybe have a quest log like d1 then a quest guide like d2. and then you could do some random quests for people in acts. so it could be the same size acts....but you get more quests to do and they hidden.

Bashiok made a post on the B.net forums with an interesting tidbit of info about the Skeletal Shieldbearer monsters in Diablo III. Unfortunately, the thread he made that post in was very troll-infested, and has since been deleted. Fortunately, some of our forum regulars spotted it and copied out the useful part.

it wouldnt do you any wrong to make your letters a bit bigger. At least we wouldnt have to hurt our eyes to read what you're saying (which doesnt make much sense even after reading it).

And now for a post a bit on topic...

It's details like this that keeps my hope in Blizzard as the best video game creator there is. I had my doubts, but d3 is shaping up to be one of the greatest RPG's ever.

Yea D2 actually takes quite a while if you actually play it instead of having higher lvl people run you through or something of that sort.

I agree it does take you quit a while. most people who know what there doing and do all the quests it could take em an hour an act. Four hours four acts....Act3 prolly takes an hour and a half act4 probably a half hour. If they know what there doing. I wanted it so it would take them almost a month if they knew what there doing. Make it as hard and as long as Diablo. (if player kills everything on the level before going down a level which is prerty much required if you dont want to get your ass kicked a level one on lvl 2=PWNED belive me i know )

Well in order for them to make it take that kind of time they'd probably eat up all the stuff they have planned for the next like 3 games...

The acts in D2 are NOT short the problem is that most people just go past them and forget to enjoy the playing just to get better things and to be in uber levels.
Almost every area has a dungeon that gets bigger based on the difficult and number of players in the game, anything bigger than that will just cost all of your free-time.
