His vitriolic words are aimed towards those with 'unreasonable' complaints against Diablo 3's art direction, and each of the player complaints are addressed one by one in the video.
for one thing he gets paid to get the inside view of game and their companies.
he respects how the game is made and understands why game companies make the games the way they want to.
Just because your a fan of Diablo doesn't mean you know whats good for the game. all the ways that people are say will might make the game better might make the game go to crap.
There is a shit-load of diablo fans all around the world if blizzard gets opinions from ever little person who thinks they are a game designer, blizzard would never finish a game cuz no one will agree with every idea.
There is nothing wrong with Diablo III's art direction - I don't even see why people are complaining as much as they are. To me, Diablo II was a joke compared to Diablo I, and now Diablo III looks much better than Diablo II. Of course, that is MY opinion
Ha! Hahahahahahaha! Hahahahaha Hahahahahahahahahaha! There are tears rolling down my cheeks. That was so true it was hilarious.
As far as how many are really detered by the art direction he may have a point. Some of the people that signed that petition weren't quite so perturbed as to keep ranting on and on over. Some, like me, regret ever signing it. Though my motivation had more to do with demonic posture (which can be achieved in lots of ways) than color. I would never have said that I would just blow the game off. Fat chance!
I believe it was something like 51,000 people that signed the petition. So, for those of you who are not so mathematically inclined, if Diablo III sells 1,000,000 copies then the petition is only around 20 percent of the populace - and it becomes less of a percentage with each copy sold. I know almost thirty people who plan on buying the game, including me and two of my sons, and not one of them has complained about the "WoW" graphics. I tote my laptop with the gameplay video and do advertising work for Blizzard every chance I get.
I trust these guys to do a good game. They have done well so far, though I agree with whomever it was that said Diablo I was better than Diablo II in many ways; but that doesn't mean I didn't love the much more colorful Diablo II. I just have an extreme fixation for the viper model in Diablo I's hell. It is the most gorgeous NPC I've ever seen.
I somehow missed the first posting of this so I got a reprieve with this one and enjoyed a really good laugh for a change. Thanks for the laugh Sol
I have infinitely more respect for the likes of Bill Roper than I would ever have for this tool.
Never thought I'd see a troll deliberately posted on the front page of a fan site. Congratulations!
lol you respect a guy who can't keep a job?
'
hey look, I was doing shitty on diablo 3 so blizzard took it away from us so I decided to make a game and call it the spiritual successor to d3 but that turned out to be just as horrible!
maybe you and Roper can go collect your unemployment checks together
No matter what happens, Blizzard WILL make this game whether they take in your opinions or not. It's their game, and they can do what they want. You will still buy it and love it for different reasons (to finish the storyline, to adventure, to tryout the new features, etc..). So whatever they do, you'll buy it even if you are angry about something.
So I guess that makes you a masochist? What other purpose could this asinine thread (and new bulletin to boot!) serve than to incite this garbage? What possible good could this have for this site or its community? I think a site admins need to have a little "heart to heart" with certain staff members around here. WTF is the matter with you?
And finally, who the hell gives a shit about what Adam Sessler has to say about anything?
Congratulations!
The staff members are posting news pertaining to diablo 3, just becuase they didn't post something that you agree with, doesn't mean the news is garbage.
And if I don't give a shit about Adam Sesslers opinion on this game, I sure as hell don't give a FUCK what some rand in his moms basement (you) has to say about this game.
If you believe, with your experience, that Jay Wilson is a terrible dictator that rule with a iron grip over all the decisions that should be made regarding diablo 3 that's your bad. I think and hope that they have a nice democracy where everyones voice and opinion is equally important, and if you listen to what Jay says during the interviews it also sounds like that, and if you don't trust the words of Jay Wilson I can't really see why you are watching interviews with him, but on the other hand maybe you don't watch em'.
Because I've worked in software development environments for over 10 years as a liaison between engineering and development and know what the IT political creature is about; good, bad, and ugly. There is a public PR face and there is a behind the scenes reality, and while I’m sure there is synergy in the team and ideas freely flow at the end of the day there a small number making the final calls. When the direction of the wind is known as certain you don’t fight it, you just go with it.
Look it's just a game to me, this place is where I give my head a break and I do look forward to the game, really. Yet I am both pleased and disappointed in what I have seen so far. I don't play too many games, I don't have time. This is the only game I'll play in in the coming year.
Why am I making a bit of stink about Jay Wilson's interviews? Because I know his reasons for not darkening the environment are overstated, I realize it may not be Jay that is setting the public talking points so I don't blame him personally. I'm sure there is some truth to his argument but I also know they could darken it more than they have and the game would still be great. If they just came out honestly and said this is what was decided on because the powers wanted it that way, I wouldn't have posted nearly as much as I have.
I tire of people saying that Wilson is making excuses and being dishonest. As if there is even one shred of evidence that he is doing either of those things.
He explains why they made the decisions they did with the game and tells it like it is. Then people suddenly can't attack the game anymore, and they have to attack him. It's pathetic. It's low. And it's frighteningly boring. You can't discredit his decisions just because you don't agree with them.
The video was funny and made some good points. For the most part people are happy with the game and the people complaining don't even understand that - even after Jay has said it - that the game will give them the dark world of Diablo. They are too busy screaming about rainbows and winne the pooh to bring a real complaint to light these days.
I've worked in 4 development intensive environments ranging from small start ups to huge public companies, all were a lot of fun, 3 very successful. Of course everyone is satisfied now, they always are to the public. Look I'm not dis'ing blizzard, I've been in that fire before and it's frustrating, it's just how it goes. I'll bet good money there are some folks in Blizzard quietly saying "I told you so" who tried to tell those who got their way.
Equinox I'm sure the game will be successful, players have waited too long for D3, so it will sell well. Many will love it and just maybe the demo was an anomalous bad selection of environments which chapped folks like me and the rest of the game will be what we all hoped for and I'll eat my hat at the end of the day.
...but I don't think so, the demo was a well planned showcase of what Blizzard wanted to show. I'll play it and like much of it however I think you may find there may be many of us still begrudging the art direction even as we play it.

I don't remember who was it, but someone on the forum stated the opinion that the demo was not made to show the graphics, but to show the game in general, and they deliberately avoided showing the best areas they had.

I begrudge the Diablo II art direction. I hate it. What's your point?
lol.. uhh ok. i agree with this dude because wut he says is true... ppl make a big fuss about a game when they can easily play different games instead of being ignorant stupid fanboy
Strange. Wilson said that the levels shown were made only for the demo video and not from the actual game. He also said in the latest video interview that they were the most "cheerful" (if you could even use such a word) looking things in the game.
So once again, the people that have been complaining have been wasting their energy and are premature in their claims.
it doesn't qualify you for commenting on one of the most successful companies in gaming
I once drew a pair of stick figures fornicating.
I then realized how horrible the Mona Lisa was.
Seriously though I agree with some of what Sessler said. Especially the Windwaker part. I hates the graphics of that game, yet it was one of the best in the Zelda series to me.
I kind of like the current D3 art, and we've only seen a rough draft pretty much so I'll wait and see how it goes to say for sure. I have hope it will look great though.

Where did you get that idea, what makes you think it was games? Assumptions.
Equinox, like you said I guess we will have to see the end product, I'll let you know then.
