Blizzard has released new artwork, screenshots and wallpapers. As commented few weeks after WWI Paris, atrumentis had suggested the ruined city in the Diablo 3 Cinematic might be the Ruins of Ureh. The Wallpaper released today confirms it is indeed Ureh from Diablo: Kingdom of Shadow novel by Richard A. Knaak.
The screenshots show the lot of work the art team is putting into making outdoor scenarious look like a vivid and colorful 3D world right out of a museum painting. The second screenshot, in contrast, shows a darker atmosphere dungeon.
Honestly...I cant wait to be dragged into a doorway by some sexy lady, and then all of a sudden she looks like a zombie!and tries to bite me! but then i go all voodoo and her head falls off!

I had NO clue wtf you were talking about. Then I realized I hadn't read the book.
Sounds awesome though.
I got to say the part I'm most interested in seeing so far is where the crystal was suppose to be placed.

I haven't heard a lot about Ureh yet though.
HAHAHAHA
i took that into consideration when typing" what if they didn't read the book?"
Early on when they go into the city they are greeted by what they think are "living people" that have simply been stuck in limbo. So the mercenaries along with Zayle the necro split up, the main people with business go to the more "royal" part to hang out with the king guy (its been a few years since ive read it :P) and get info and what not on their mission, while in the lower parts is the city of common folks, who are actually zombies in the dark! so a bunch of mercs were roaming the city, drinking up and chillin with the locals, some girls dragged off the guys to "get some" and like...ate their faces off...LITERALLY, and never heard from again.
so i was saying, i want some sexy lady to try to seduce me and i will be all like " NO FIEND!!! I KNOW YOUR TRAP.....but you are quite sexy!" roflz!
once they find out they are zombies they get chased through the city, so expect maybe some1-4 vs 50 cagillion zombies in there with a few other animal like creatures.
now don't say ZOMG YES because you are a diablofan...
I mean, will these books go well next to my copy of I Am America and So Can You
Definitely...rofl, that book title makes me laugh every single time. Its a book that starts a LITTLE slow, but that was a long time ago, it was my first D novel so i was expecting action hack n slash immediately. But it gets really good, its a windy turn kind of book that you cant put down because you have no idea what will come next.
ZOMG YES!!!!GET IT!!!!ITS A DIABLO BOOK are you crazy?!!?!?!? (lol)
the background just looks like a pastel drawn in picture to me, the character models look alot better, but i wish theyd give us a new class and a new game play video already weve waited ages for it we want it NOW lol.
I wonder how the wounds system is going to work (about the barbarian wounds in the screenshot... something we didn't have in the 20 mins videos). I mean, does it matter where you get hit, who you get hit by and for how long the marks remain...

i hope it would matter if you got hit...or else you can play the game without dying because if you get hit it wont damage your life lol.
Wow, there are a few new things that I notice about that single barbarian picture.
One, the barb is all jacked up. He must have 20 slices on his body. REAL TIME DAMAGE anyone?
Two, the blood is staying on the ground!!!! WOOT!!
Three, it looks like they lengthened the time of the bodies remaining, due to how far away some are from the barb.
Also, I see pieces of frozen zombie, and pieces of a non-frozen zombie strew about. Limb hacking in action?
As for the Angel picture, it looks to me like he is guarding a portal to (hell, heaven, worldstone ruins, etc), rather than exiting the portal. Also, no upturned sword on the chest of this Angel, so I think Imperius is out, and Inarius is back in. Or perhaps the two pictures of angels with firey wings are two different angels. One is Inarius, and the other is Imperius. Perhaps joined forces??

Well I don't want to seem like I'm raining on other's speculation but I really doubt any of the angels are Inarius. Inarius had his wings ripped off and his flesh distorted.
He bound Inarius with tremendous chains and slowly tore the wings from the back of the angel. Great barbed hooks were then used to stretch out the once glowing skin and his features were distorted by vile powers. Many of the followers of Inarius were given as gifts to Baal and Diablo, but the rest were molded to match the bloated image of the now crippled angel. To this day, Inarius is said to be trapped in Hell within a chamber of mirrors, his eyelids torn from his face as he is forced to gaze upon his misshapen form for all eternity. His misguided followers now serve as Hell's taskmaster taking the anguish of their lost glory out upon the bodies of others.
So unfortunately I don't see much possibility this is Inarius. The lack of symbol seems like it may not be Imperius either though, so who knows.
MedievalDragon, how does this prove this is Ureh? You've got two screenshots of zones we've already seen, and three pieces of artwork which have no title that I can see, and that don't even give a clue as to what they are by the filename. I'm not doubting it is Ureh necessarily, I'm just wondering how you came to this conclusion? Is there something I've missed here? I just get the impression you are jumping to conclusions!
Heres a though look at the diablo3 site, the WALLPAPER is named UREAH.

I know Inarius was imprisoned and all that, but who says that an Angel can't regrow their wings? How can an Angel, made of sound and light, have skin? I still think that we will see Inarius in some way, shape or form in D3. I actually think we will have an appearance by most Angels, Imperius, Inarius, Auriel, Malthael, Tyrael, Itherael, and possibly even Izual.

The third screen shot...
Gives me the impression of the city being used as a pillar of containment of some sort, to imprision an angel
Could it be that Ureh is the imprisionment site of some unknow arch-angel... and that is why it is said that even Diablo, the Lord of Terror himself, feared the city??
Maybe... the original consort of Lilith... i forget his name...
What you guys think of my speculation?
edit
Now that i think about it... it could also be Tyrael using the city, and what lies beneath it as a some sort of Barring Demons From Entering Sanctuary Device...
Wait, when did someone say that Diablo was afraid of Ureh. It was just a city caught halfway between Heaven and Hell, and inhabited by ghosts. Nothing that big D couldn't handle.

Yeah, that text about Inarius being imprisoned is old. Blizzard has refined the lore surrounding angels since then, they're not just humans with bird like wings like we usually see.
About Ureh, it's been a long time since I read Kingdom of Shadows but from what I can remember Zayl and Dumon destroyed the two stones allowing it to stay in the mortal realm and killed the king who was possessed by Diablo. So what's going to bring it back then and what does it have to do with that fiery angel. Come to think about it, maybe Diablo still has some ties in Ureh and this is where his essence will gather allowing him to reincarnate himself.
Meh - the outside screenshots (old and new) are teh suckage. It looks like a painting rather then a game render - and if I wanted to see that id goto a gallery. Im all for believing that games are art, but thats going to far. I have to say I am competely dissapointed so far in this title, so please, someone who lives in CA do everyone a favor and break into Blizzard and put magnets on all there hard drives. This game needs to be made, but not like this - like I said before, I'd rather not have it all then almost have what it should be.
And all of you who are gonna flame and say "Well dont buy it then" - trust me I wont. Unless the new art director turns this around, im washing my hands of D3.
oh, and another thing - for all those who say the petition signers are obsessed "Fan boys" - look at the title of this post. Reading diablo inspired books by no name authors? Hell, any game inspired book. NOW who's obsessed - go read something inteligent like Tolkien or King and stop getting angry because your intelectually stunted mind cant recognise a crap sellout game when it sees it. Either that or you just dont have the testicular fortitude to speak your mind on the subject and are afraid of people not "liking" you, and that my friends is the saddest existance of all.

Also note this image of Ureh from the artwork trailer:
It seems to show Ureh transforming into something sinister...
(yeah, I used imageshack since my photobucket bandwidth exceeded its limit)
Awesome effects! I can't wait to see more.
