Diablo III - More Details
Omnicide @ USEast: Say you pick up said item that only you can see and you don't need it. If you drop it, can your teammates then see it?
Bashiok: Yeah, so right now in a multiplayer game I'll see my items drop, if I don't want it or can't use it I'll need to pick it up and then drop it at which time everyone can see it. Then I can of course ask in chat if anyone wants it. It's fairly straight forward, and by no means final, obviously.
To clarify "can't use" we don't plan nor have any armor items at the moment that are class specific - although the bonuses and stats may be better suited to a certain class - anyone can pick up any chest/shoulder/leg/etc item and wear it. However, there are some weapons/off-hand items that are class specific.
Yeah, as others have said the current intent to encourage cooperative play (in regards to health globes) is to ensure that they heal everyone in the party when picked up.
But in any case, why wouldn't the witch doctor be using any of his abilities? Mass confuse, and while everything is busy wailing on each other or attacking your mongrels you sneak in. Or horrify, and while they're scattered you snag some health.
The witch doctor is a little sneakier though, a little more frail, a little more of a "I'm gonna make you die or kill your friend while I'm all the way over here". You should probably be doing everything you can to avoid being hit, and you have the tools to do so.
Q u o t e:
Bosses do not drop health globes while you are fighting them right?
Bashiok: Maybe? Maybe not. Maybe there are other situational/environmental mechanics that would, or would provide assistance in healing up?
Q u o t e:
Not only will they be forcing players to run in circles like mindless chickens, but they will make hardcore and softcore gameplay harder, slow paced, and over all less attractive.
Bashiok: That's a lot of conclusions to jump to in a single sentence. Classes will have abilities to help them work through groups of monsters. Obviously health globes are going to be necessary to pick up, and obviously class abilities will exist to help you do so.
And, come on :), I realize there's a lot of room for hyperbole since we just announced and a lot of details aren't out there or just don't exist, but at least have the ground before you call it a mountain. Rational concerns, complaints, issues, questions, are going to go over way better.
Q u o t e:
the fact remains that it only takes up space if it's added onto monster loot tables
Bashiok: Well, it's not like there's a hard cap on what a loot table can contain being forced upon us, or that health globes are even associated with loot drops. It can be balanced any way we see fit.
Bottom line, is that we're simply not going to release a game that is irritating, slow, aggravating, boring, or any of the other adjectives you used. If that means ripping out the health globe system and going a different direction, so be it, but at current it plays and feels fun and engaging. -- (Jump to post)
what i thought when i heared about the shared loot system.
But i disagree about the complaints about a hotkey. You still need to identify stuff to know what stats it has before dropping them down (or i just saw a purple amulet without a name from the gameplay video that was intended to be so), so naturally you'll need to open your intentory which would make the item dropping pretty simple, no?
i also like the idea of the health globes healing the entire group even more. not sure if there are going to be pots or not, but hey, the elixirs are back, yay!
Also the new looting systen is a much fairer way for everyone to get something, then again a asshole/hacker will always find a way.
blizzard has been pretty hard on all hackers and exploiters
I have seen guilds in WoW get month bans for jumping AB fences
Blizzards AC is pretty ballin
Disproportionate life points means that someone will likely need that globe before others. Paly's with healing auras do nothing for single players who want to play something else... and you wouldn't want to limit a spell caster to always having to have an a hirling with a healing aura. And so forth and so on... so I don't see how they can completely get away from potions unless every character also has a healing skill they can use... or if globes work like loot, everyone has a chance of getting one and they are the only ones who can see it.
Personallly, I was OK with the potions. I hadn't considered that the globes are similar to pac man and such until some other poster pointed it out.
I think that just dropping loot that you don't want has a couple of problems too... wouldn't that then make it a free for all for that item with no guarantee that anyone needs to give you anything for it? I think you should have to keep all of your items or leave them - without anyone else being able to see them. Restrict trading to in town in a trading screen.
if games are capped at 5, how are we going to have 5v5 pvp matches?
2v2, 1v1 but no 3v3, 4v4, 5v5, 6v6?
comon blizzard, you say you have e-sports in mind, but a 2v2 wont be half as entertaining and difficult as a 5v5
And don't even think about a WoW loot system. I don't want to wait 30 seconds after every kill to decide who gets a magical ring.
For some reason I did not think of this...
Then I am absolutely loving the new loot system (hopefully).
But... what happens if you actually know what the item is without the need of identifyiing, and don't really need it? (i.e. most people know that a unique Shako is a Harlequin Crest) It would be such a waste (of course, why would someone ignore a Shako is beyond me).
but letting it rot, sure that could breed an issue if people knew you left it there
but the only way the party would know is if he says "lolz I just left a shako on the ground"
Of course if he picks it up there is no problem, and if he does not tell other people he did not pick it up, nobody would bother him for it. But are you truly happy with the idea that some people might actually do that? Some items may be pretty useful for other people, and you just ignore them because they are not useful to you? (I don't mean literally YOU, but you get the idea...)
When a boss dies, there is a "deck" of loot, and each player "draws" an item into their "hand" which they then look at, then "discard" if they don't want it, or they can switch with their partner. Works for cards... (shrug)
Personally, I think it would be clever of them to incorporate gameplay from "old standby" games into theirs'... It would be kind of a no-brainer while slaughtering beasts, almost like a little subconscious minigame...
ITS DROPS NOT LOOT
Oh dear...
I've never played World of Warcraft...
As far as I'm concerned "loot tables" comes from Dungeons & Dragons, whence comes Diablo...
Someone need to go and get this message across to the blizzard team: They should allow everyone to see all items, because it's a pain for every player to inform every other player of every item JUST IN CASE another player wants it. It's better to allow everyone to see all items dropped, but have a pickup timer. After the timer expires, anyone can take the item. Pickup timers should probably be no more than 10-20 seconds.
It also ruins some of the RPG aspects of the game to have an item drop, and I can't see it drop. It takes some of the immersiveness and believability out of the game and environment.
Zeto
just save up about 6 months of pay, go on a 24/7 d3 binge
die happy
Rather then just... "oh need health" *presses key* "oh need health again" *presses key*
Health globes may go something like this:
"oh crap where is a health globe!"
*frantically looks around*
"There its!"
*uses a knockback, fear, leap, etc*
grabs globe
"whew"
There will still be potions for emergency but it is time for something new for healing. I'm happy to try out their new system. I also like the idea of anyone in the party being able to pick it up and help the group.
Instead of just pressing the same single key to heal, you now may have to:
search
move
use a skill that works for the present battle situation
I believe Blizzard is spot on.
Don't care much about not seeing other peoples loot. I didn't mind it in HGL. I think loot whores will be mistakenly upset with this at first.
