We're - in general - not big fans of griefing for any game. It's really only "fun" for one person, and that definition of fun isn't generally something we're going to want to encourage. It's far more positive to encourage and support meaningful and skillful options and systems within a game, than a mechanic for people to instantly turn against one another for no meaningful gameplay reasons.
I definitely remember running with my friends, and someone toggles it, and bam everyone is dead and your one friend is laughing. Ok, ok, good joke I guess, and then you run back and *bam*, you've toggled it to get them back. After a while everyone usually agrees to a truce because it's just a waste of time. But I also remember running with random players and losing extremely nice items because of it, not cool. I'm sure that it was a feature that was right up some people's alleys, I won't deny there are some that would enjoy nothing more than to see others frustrated, but is that truly something that should be encouraged through design - if not directly opposed?
We have a large focus on cooperative play for Diablo III, and the mechanics and design decisions related to multiplayer are likely going to be based on supporting and encouraging it as much as possible, and not breaking it down.
That doesn't mean that PvP won't have its own focus, but those are details and features we aren't yet discussing.
lame imo, diablo shouldnt be to focused on cooperation, some people liked being a maverick and commanding fear
agreed. i love pk and pvp in d2, only thing id change is you must both be out of town for damage to occur. hydras and tping to town to hostile should kill the hydras as soon as they hostile, or guided arrows or traps. i always pk'd face to face, and thats how it should be. juuust incase u host'd sum1 better than u and get pwnt. i always loved that. especially when i made an 18 pk people would host me when i was down waiting for the arcane wp to get passed by people. was the most fun when i got to kill other pks on accident lol
It is just stupid that pkers like to waste your time by camping the wp or some quest area without being able to kill anyone. If they can't kill anyone then bye bye u suck quit pking if u can't and let other people do their quests and level ups.
Few days ago I was doing norm act2.. well this pk 5 levels above me was camping claw viper temple.. I didn't wanna go there since I would have died ofc. So I waited a while and the pk just didn't go away. Well I changed the game and was able to get all the way up to arcane sanctuary... and the pk joins the game again and comes there. I tp to town. Aand again the waiting begins. This is what sux, people higher level than u camp quest areas and u can't progress even if u change game. Well I just went to bed already but left my character there I hope that pk had some nice time while waiting me to get back
Sure I could have made a password game but hey whats the damn fun playing single player, mobs die instantly and u get like 0 exp.
PK's aren't hard.. you suck hard if u get killed by one, but annoying thing is that you can just wait in town while they camp the areas. Sure you could say "then go and kill the pk" but it ain't really wise when the guy is 5 levels above you. Many times some PK builds like charger palas can easily kill you even if they are lower than you.
Oh well this happens mostly only in normal mode so it ain't so much pain in the ass. But anyways just a tought that would remove the ever camping pk's. Since if they can't kill something in the first 5 minutes It's highly unlikely they will get anything done. Then they childlishly start yelling "Game owned" and get their epeen up.
Special PK ladders and such are totally fine with me. In fact, I really hope they have them, so that it will draw those sorts of players away from the rest of us. Griefers have successfully driven away many players from games, Blizzard would be smart to not let a repeat of that occur yet again.
The griefer excuse is that other players should toughen up and strike back, but.. you see.. to us.. it's just a game. It's not worth it, we'll just move on to something else.
I have never liked PvP in Diablo.
blizzard is taking out the heart and soul of diablo 3 and replacing it with one from WoW.
the art direction is WoW-ish, when i paused the gameplay video over the skills it looked like the 20 skill tab on the D2 skill tree has been replaced by some WoW-like skill system.
and now the PvP aspect of the game seems like its going to lean more towards a WoW-ish view rather than a Diablo view.... WHAT THE FUCK IS WRONG WITH YOU BLIZZARD!!! (sorry but I'm seriously frustrated)
What made the Diablo series so great was that it kept you excited, and the PvP system was one of the most exciting aspects of Diablo. knowing that you could be killed by someone at any moment is part of the fun and it kept people involved with the game.
if u didnt want that, u could always make a password proteced game or put a level tab on ur game... easy as that!!!!
The Diablo II skill tree was one of the best damn things that ever happened to the Diablo games. because of it we where able to have many many builds of the same class, the builds seemed infinite. they where certaintly much more than anything the WoW skill system offered.
And the art, NO BLIZZARD ITS NOT JUST MUSIC THAT GIVES DIABLO ITS DARK FEEL!!! music is a huge factor in the equation but even more importantly is the color scheme. NICE COLORFUL RAINBOWS DONT FEEL LIKE "DIABLO" AT ALL!!!! no matter how eerie the music playing in the background is.
Blizz needs to take their heads out of WoW's ass and look into Diablo's instead!!!
P.S please excuse me for my language but I think I have the right to be mad as I am a "Diablo" fan who has been waiting for this game to come out for 8 years!!! and seeing them turn this game to something more of a non MMO WoW game is just disgusting to me!!
Edit. oh I tought these people had left the forums already since there hasn't been such postings in a few days.. seems like I was wrong
I agree playing on hardcore and being hostile definitely made my browneye pucker a little. I have been both pker and pked. You win some you lose some but it definitely added a certain element that is missing from alot of games. If people want to say it is a waste of time and detracts from the main point of game, I ask this. Isn't playing a game a big waste of time in itself? I feel it is. I have wasted many years on D2 already and one of the things I enjoy is being able to fight my friends as well as random people. The only kind of pker I am not fond of are the hacker ones that tppk. That crap is just cheap. However it is quite fun to have a hostile mf game. I hope they keep some form of pvp in the game even if it a certain area in town that you must be in to attack your opponent.
but in D2 it seemed to really take from the gameplay. i mean, it was so backstabbing, with the Townportal-PKing and all that...it wasn't a hunt anymore, it was a slaguhter. the hunt was fun in D1 because you could escape the attacker in different ways because there was no instant death (besides the "hacks" of course) but in D2 there was no hunt...you were simply dead before you knew what hit you. now, i didn't care at all if someone PKed me unless i was on hardcore mode. Pking COMPLETELY ruined the whole concept of hardcore mode to me, because it isn't about PVP, it's about how much your character can handle PVE.
my point is...if it can be looked at as a hunt, or perhaps a duel, then it can actually be fun. but if it's just a backstabbing betrayal by someone that was in your party 5 seconds ago, or if it's a death that you never saw coming, then it's no fun at all.
i like WoW's system honestly. if you wanna fight, you play on a PVP server or you flag yourself. it's not a hunt or a slaughter, but rather an invitation for conflict. it's a way of saying "hey, come get some!" and it's a great way to find players who actually want to be "hunted" or to find those who think they are tough enough to handle anything that comes their way. it's fun.
Look people the pvp with Diablo 2 is bad enough as it is now, blizzard has lowered their standards and is catering to all of you people who suck at the game. They give you an unlimited amount of time to get away from ANY PK, they got rid of loot, they disabled hostile people to go in wps right away, they disabled hostile people to take other peoples tps, its retarded how bad they messed up diablo 2 for you kids who just couldnt cut it. Ill be damned if you crying kids ruin diablo 3, been waiting 8+ years for this game and you kids want to ruin it by crying and having blizzard cater to your pathetic needs some more.
Now look at it this way:
You people crying about pvp and pk, why not cry about how blizzard made monsters immune to cold or fire or lightning? It makes the game challenging and yea an immunity can cause frustration and ruin the game if you are going solo so why not tear it up over that?
Or here is a nice example I believe, for those of you who play Starcraft look at it this way:
No free pvp or pk on Diablo is like playing Starcraft online only you can't play eachother, you can only jump the computer.....now how fun is that? That destroys the game. Or its like playing Starcraft only you get to see your enemies at all times because it would be to frustrating to have an element of suprise in the game for some 8 year olds.
Diablo will DIE if you keep throwing in all these new features, if your going to create a game that looks like World of Diablo please i beg of you to find a different name for it. Diablo shouldnt be compaired to WoW. they are 2 totaly different gameplay experiences.
WoW will never be Diablo. it will always be the same mind-numbingly boring XP grind. I know there are people that like this kind of gameplay, but sadly for them Diablo is not that type of game. once you face the facts WoW is a very slow game, Diablo is not.
Don't ruin the fast paced adrenalin rush that is Diablo. Your wow fans have wow. leave Diablo fans to have Diablo, instead of some watered down version.
mixing the 2 will always be a stupid idea in my eye's.
But again that's just my opinion :D.
