Diablo3.com becomes Diablofans.com! Blizzard acquires diablo3.com.
Well, there's no point in beating around the bush any longer, so let's get right down to it. A few months ago we were contacted by Blizzard in regards to the Diablo3.com domain name. While they appreciate all the work that's been put into running this big Diablo fan community over the years, they still want the domain name. Hmm, I wonder why? Now before you get all up in arms about it, allow me to explain a few things.
First off, this fan site isn't going anywhere, it's just getting a new name: Diablofans.com! Blizzard is actually being really cool about it, giving us all the time we need to make it a smooth transition before we hand the old domain over to them. So be sure to update all of your bookmarks and point 'em to diablofans.com instead. Your user accounts will all still be perfectly functional and, along with this new site name, we'll soon have a big site redesign up and running as well. A new name, a new look. Huzzah!
Secondly, while Blizzard is indeed acquiring the diablo3.com domain name, they told me that this shouldn't be considered an announcement for the Diablo 3 game we've been waiting for all these years. They acquire new domains all the time. While this is true, I personally can't help but think that this is a confirmation of sorts that they're working on the next Diablo game. Sure, they can claim it's because they want to protect their intellectual properties 'n what have you, but I can't imagine they would all of a sudden be so interested in the diablo3.com domain if they weren't working on a new Diablo 3 game behind the scenes.
On a final note, I want to thank all of you guys who've made this community so strong over the years. It's only going to get better around here and I hope you'll all stick with us. One of the nice things about this whole name-change ordeal is that Blizzard really appreciates the fact that we're a dedicated fan site and we'll be working with them much more closely in the future to bring you the latest Diablo game news.
It's funny, I've had so many offers over the years from people who wanted to pay a lot o' cash for the diablo3.com domain name and I wasn't even willing to consider then. I set out to have a great Diablo fan site because I simply loved the Diablo series. Fortunately, with the help of some great people on the staff and fans like you, we accomplished just that. But when Blizzard came around asking for the domain, I was excited about it both as a Diablo fan and for their recognition of all the work we've put into the site. Fortunately for us, the diablofans.com domain name was available and it fit perfectly in line with the intentions of this site, so I registered it and here we are. Diablo3.com will still be active for a few more months so everybody can have a chance to get used to the new Diablofans.com domain. After that, it will simply point to the Blizzard.com homepage... at least until they're ready to use it for something more worthwhile. One of the nice things about the new diablofans.com domain is that it's all-encompassing. Instead of the site just being for people waiting on Diablo 3, it can serve as the main hub for *all* current and future Diablo games. Isn't it nice to know you'll always have a place online you can call home? Hey, even Diablo's demon minions need a place to hang their hats too.
Alright, that's all the news for now. I'm sure all of this news is gonna get the Diablo 3 rumor mill running like a mad banshee... so have fun discussing the announcement with your fellow Diablo fans!
update: Some gaming news sites are reporting that Blizzard "purchased" the diablo3.com domain from me. This is not the case. As I stated in the above post, if it was my intention to make a profit off of the domain, I could've sold it years ago, but I didn't. When Blizzard spoke to me about their interest in the domain, I was happy to give it to them since they had no problems with us moving the site to diablofans.com and will now be working more closely with us in the future. So yeah, I just wanted to clear that up... there is no monetary exchange taking place, I'm simply giving Blizzard the diablo3 domain.

I know what you're saying about them buying it is leading to some actual D3 news. But Diablo 3 is a big question in Blizz community and ppl try to get anything out of blizzard, but guess what- nothing comes out. And they're probaably doing this to stop this hoping and not let ppl get carried away with a things that diablo fans really hope will happen, but according to what blizz is doing and their plans- there is no chance for Diablo 3, and they just waant to stop this until there is major dissappointment, and plus link it to Blizz just to make it easier on you.
I said I like the new layout, I didn't say it was a new site that made me happy. Nothing could replace you guys
Wow, how can you honestly say that? How can you call me a moron when I so plainly laid it all out? for you? I'm not fucking hoping- it's logic you absurdly stupid moron. They would have no reason to buy diablo3.com if they didn't need it.
Blizzard would actually SHY away from buying any domains or doing anything related to Diablo 3 whatsoever AT ALL if they lacked any intention to create a Diablo 3.
You need to learn more about company franchising rights.
You don't buy random domains that have nothing to do with products you own unless you are going to use it.
Ouch, now I am feeling my 42 years of age! To pass the time, I hope to snag a WII so my daughter can kill me at bowling and my son can whup my ass at boxing! Now some D2LOD PVP action and I would have them cold!
I like Tyreal and WWI side by side on Blizzplanet.com. Again, another hint that something might come with another couple months of waiting.
Thats like saying I have a company called "Blue"
and I have a game called "Blue 1: The Destiny."
And someone out there makes a website called "Blue 2"
Now, my company is never going to make a blue 2, but theres been tons of talk about Blue 2, so, my company is going to go ahead and buy blue 2. So now, my company owns Blue 2, and all the rights, but why?
Because my company is just that stupid, right? I mean, we're not making Blue 2 ever, but we went ahead and secured all the rights. That serves a point, right? It actually makes my fans happier, right? I mean, its not going to overhype anything or blow up any news, right?
WRONG.
Blizzard buying Diablo 3 = Everyone knows Diablo 3 is coming.
Blizzard NOT buying Diablo 3 = After a few years, things start to die, slowly, everyone forgets, and Blizzard never owns the franchise rights for Diablo 3 because they NEVER INTENDNED TO MAKE IT.
So, ONCE AGAIN...
You dont buy crap you arent using!
How the fuck is it logic, get out of lala-wishy-hope land, you little pusseeey. You're in denial. Im trying to open the eyes for you, Ive been on this site 3 years almost and loved diablo since 1999, but diablo 3 is a very small chance. They have startcraft 2 and wow expansion each year to make.... so just sit here and hope my friend, but im done with this shit. Honestly.
HaHa! No offense intended, Dude; I'm right up there with ya.
How the fuck am I in denial? I've been playing the Diablo series just as long as you, and I know as well as you do that the chances of it be released or announced soon are so slim- I just said that the franchise isn't DEAD. I'm glad you're done, nothing you've posted so far makes any sense.
Respect lost.
Also, as I posted in the other thread:
Sure D3 might be announced on June 29 but this acquisition adds bugger all weight to that. We could well be waiting until 2016 for D3.
Hey,
Did you read ANYTHING I said? Lay the hell off of people, jerk.
Guess what, I've been a fan of Diablo since 97, my father and I were at best buy opening day to get the damn game because of how much we loved Warcraft Orcs and Humans and Warcraft 2.
WE played the shit out of that game and I still play it sometimes, and when Diablo 2 came out, I played it non-stop and mastered it, finally quit after 5 or 6 years but I had a battle.net account full of 80's and 90's. Multiple accounts with mules and everything.
I've played WoW since the day it was released and I love StarCraft.
Blizzard has an employee base of more than 600 people, now, back in the day, when they had a very small team, they were limited.
But they are NO longer limited. They can work on all kinds of stuff at once with how much money they rake in a month from WoW.
I can't believe a dumbass like you exists. Blizzard is going around BUYING all the Diablo 3 domains, Richard Knaak has stated "I'm not writing for a dead series", all the blizzard employees answer "We may revisit that franchise in the future..." really slyly when asked questions about Diablo at blizzcon...
I mean, COME on man. This is the NEWS we've all been waiting for. Do you need a fucking sledge hammer to hit you in the face with Diablo 3 on it to realize THIS is it?
Sure ok, I know the franchise isnt dead. But this site's obviously is about diablo 3. And im saying that all the buying and taking for free sites can be understood in different ways.
So they went around collecting all the Diablo 3 websites lately because they own Diablo 3. Why would they OWN Diablo 3? Why would they waste their time collecting all the domain sites? What are they securing it for?
They own Diablo 1 and Diablo 2. Diablo 3 is not included in that, unless they specifically have just now included it and purchased it. And since they have, by owning Diablo 3 rights now to get the domains, what do you think they're doing? Just having fun? Why even bother owning rights to Diablo 3? Would you want to own rights to non-existant things?
I agree with that.
Reading anything I'm posting, dumbass?
