posted a message on Legendary Gem Upgrade Chance Quick Reference

    Hey all!

I've been referencing a very helpful chart published at http://aaforgex.com/d3gemcalc/ to try to maximize my efficiency at upgrading my legendary gems on my Season 2 characters, but as is the nature of charts that large it takes a bit of tracing rows and columns to figure out where I want to be on the chart. That in mind, I decided to automate the process in Google Sheets. I thought there might be others out there who would benefit as I do from having a computer do the counting for them, so here's a link to the spreadsheet. Let me know if you find this useful! :)

Note: I have the sharing permissions set so you can view, not edit, so you'll have to make a copy of it to your own Google Drive before calculating anything.

This discussion has made me curious: what do we, as players, define as "good" loot? We can throw around words like "relevant" or "trash" or "meaningful," but how do those monstrously vague attributes manifest within the game?

I personally am having fun with the loot system because it, so far as I can tell, adheres to the principle that the rarest/most difficult to attain loot yields the most powerful affixes. That, to me, is a good structure for a game that in essence is just a very long series of digital piñatas spewing forth imaginary shiny toys. It also means that, by mathematical definition, the very great and vast majority of the bits spewn forth are going to be "useless" if you define "useless" as "less powerful than the one piece of gear I happen to already have in that slot." I happen across countless items that would have been, were I to have found it upon freshly hitting 70 as opposed now after weeks of grinding, awesome—certainly better than the level 61/64 gear I was wearing at the time.

I'll agree there's a vast amount of untapped potential for interesting affix interactions, but with the mind-boggling size of the overhaul that came with RoS and then all the extra systems put into place with 2.1, I don't in any way lose hope that the devs think that they can rest on their laurels since all is rosy. More is coming. It's gonna be good.

posted a message on RoRG, Normal vs. T2+, I don't think even Blizzard knows anymore...
    • Originally, the difficulty did not increase the chance to find legendaries of any sort in a cache, so it was optimal to farm Normal caches.
    • Blizzard then decided it would be better for those playing on harder difficulty levels to be rewarded for their increased level of play and added increased legendary drops to caches earned on Torment II – VI.
      • Separately, they also added a multiplicative 100% boost to legendary drops from monsters and breakables—this boost does not apply to cache-specific legendary drops since they do not fall into the above category.
    • Finally, they provide a clarification that while your Torment level does increase the likelihood that your cache will drop a legendary, it does not increase the likelihood that it will be a cache-specific legendary (such as the Ring of Royal Grandeur).

    Does that make sense?

aggrofall is correct. Chests are not meant to be farmed and Blizzard has taken specific action in the past to discourage playstyles that emphasize circumventing monsters and farming chests.

you are correct Aeneas, Opening the cashe on a barb with give you str items even if you farmed on a wizard, with exception to when smart loot doesnt kick in...
This statementmight beincorrect. I have had two rorgs drop while on my Monk. The first rorg was int and the other was str. Please note that the rorgs dropped for me last patch. I do not know if smart loot affects caches in the current patch.
To the best of my knowledge, I believe caches are subject to smart-drop rules, but (as with everything) a smart drop is not guaranteed. Your situation looks to me more like a pair of non-smart drops rather than an indication that caches are not influenced by that system.

We're kinda sporadic right now with our events and schedule, so I don't have anything concrete to give you just yet. Oblivion (my brother) generally streams HC Demon Hunter weekdays while he's not working and I'm online leveling on the weekends (currently trying to level all six classes from 1 to 70; Crusader and Wizard are already done).

Come join us! Benefiting from this week's buff to pets' crit damage, <SQB>Oblivion is running a pet-based Demon Hunter and we'd love to talk all things Diablo III with you, especially regarding this week's patch.

posted a message on Cow level does exist.
Reading through this thread, I think both those who enjoy just having cows to kill and ruksak are on to something. Having the farmable event is a bit blah after a while, so the random chance is a fun incentive to keep rerolling rifts over and over again. That said, the hyper-simple mechanics referenced by Ruksak of the old Cow Level were awesome: an open field of bovine death—no tight corridors, no tricks, no hidden features, just wave after wave after wave of murderous cows.

What if they were to combine the two? Rift Portal X drops you down into a wide open field with tall green grass swaying in the gentle breeze, a rickety old picket fence creaks to your left. A cold October sun shines on your face and the smell of tilled earth fills the air. Then suddenly a chill rushes down your spine as from somewhere far off the faintest whisper of your age-old foe drifts to your ears:

    "Moo."

posted a message on How long until Blizzard fixes people "cheesing" normal mode?
There are incentives to run higher difficulties (Torment-only legendary items being the most compelling in my opinion), but they could probably use a buff if people still feel cheesing Normal is the best way to do it. Perhaps something to the effect of slightly different stat ranges for items dropped based on what difficulty they were dropped at?

SickQuitBrahz twitch stream runs weekly PvP events on Saturday mornings (usually starting around 8). We're each currently working on grinding our 6 classes up to 70 in softcore (as a group we prefer to play Hardcore, so we didn't really have softcore characters) so we also occasionally stream weekday evenings.

We're a friendly (albeit sarcastic) bunch and would love if you wanted to play with us! Follow me on Twitter @TeschJD for updates!

5 minutes after launch, I and my usual play group were playing a trio of brand-new level 1 Crusaders—because we wanted to try the new newness. :)

14 grueling hours later, three of us were fighting Malthael. Two of us died. The third emerged victorious.
