This is D3 classic with Loot 1.0. All of this will be obsolete with Ros and Loot 2.0, as they have to re-tune everything anyways.

    Again, we don't know that.
My fear is that they will "retune" it by making stuff drop everywhere so that people can finish everything pretty quickly and then complain there is nothing to do in the game. Which, granted, is not dramatic for a B2P game, but still...

They said they were going to bring out more information regarding this entire thing @Blizzcon. If you actually watched the interview with them reasoning about the change.
I watched the interview, and this does not change the fact that they just released a nuclear bomb without building shelters first.
Not only the idea itself is stupid, but it was not timed well in addition to that :(

A relative *handful* will do this. They know how often trade window was opened on D2 battle.net. When they say that a small portion of D2 players took trading seriously, they have the data to back it up.
Yes, but there is only one problem. D2 was tuned for solo play, making online mode (even self-found) much more viable, as Hell was not a problem in a group.

D3 however, has multiple levels of difficulty even on Inferno, making trading much more needed. The alternative would be the console version, where legendaries rain on you and you get bored of it pretty fast.

Ok, see you next year, we'll see what kind of 3rd party site is handling hundreds of thousands of D3 transactions daily...

Err... Ebay, for one? I'm sure they have the capacity of handling a huge amount of transactions.

And no, third party sites will not handle the millions of transactions the AH handled

The founder of Ebay must look at that statement in amazement :)

This will make a huge, great community. Should kill all bots and make them obsolete.

Since friend lists are fairly limited in number, you cannot make a huge community out of them, by definition.

I thought that's obvious: D3 would be used for actually playing the game
in contrast to D2 where in my perception 99% of the games where
    opened exclusively for trade.

Ofc it's obvious. What is less obvious is the fact that such a "solution" will create a lot of other problems (see "drop rate balance").
So no, it's not a good idea.

If you watched the video, they specifically mentioned that the sheer "convenience" of the AH is what led people to play that rather than the game.

And yet, if they remove it, people will spend even more time playing trade channels rather than the game.
Unless the Loot 2.0 drops will be so great there will be no reason at all to use AH/trade. Which is quite bland for a lot of people.

The trouble isn't people finding too many legendaries at high level, it's new players finding none at low level, I had to play all classes to 60 before I found my first legendary and have still only ever found 1 set item, compare that to D2 where you would find 1 or 2 by the end of Act 1 normal.

RNG is RNG. I have found several legendaries at low level. But that is besides the point, really.
FWIW, most gameplay in D3 takes place at max level, and if we get too many drops there, we will have console D3 all over again.

Already done. Watch the GamesCom RoS announcement. 6 times higher legendary drop rate on an average act 3 run.

Again, this is exactly my point. You'll have legendaries all over the place (a bit like on console, maybe slightly less since there is no online mode on consoles). I'm not sure this is the best model for a game like Diablo.

This has absolutely nothing to do with the AH, but with the fact that the console has an offline mode.

And my fear that Loot 2.0 will work on a similar way. Because otherwise, without AH, a lot of people will complain.
So the legendary drop rate will have to be relatively high (compared to now) for that to not happen.

I just hope it won't be like console, where you can get everything in 2-3 weeks and then shelf the game.

    +1
As i said in another thread, i hope Blizzard completely abolishes trading.

And what would that accomplish? If you abolish trading, you're back to console version where legendaries rain from the sky, so that you can beat the game quickly and shelf it, because that's how console games work. Or, alternatively, drop rates will be slow and it will be a whole lot of grind, which will make people whine and quit the game. Both variants are silly.

    2) Need to now make all items drop more often, the drop rates of console likely are close to perfect.

Yeah, so that you're done with the game in ~100 hours and then can shelf it? Great plan.

    Quote from Highborne_D2

    3) No items should ever be BoA now, not Marquise, not Legendaries, not Mystic changes, nothing.

BOA is needed to get items out of the economy. Either that, or ladder (which has other problems).

Its hard to trade and or sell awesome items when they are BoA. ;)

They're BOA once they're changed by the mystic (at least that's the current plan).
