posted a message on NPCs should give side-quests :)
Those two ideas where just ones that randomly popped into my head.

Diablo 2 didn't really have random events to be honest. It was more about map randomization than anything else. If I enter the cow level, "am I going to spawn inside the Cow Kind's lair, next to a large pack or will I be safe?".

I like Diablo 3's randomization (random events and optional dungeon) over Diablo 2's (random generated map and monsters). I like Diablo 1's random events over Diablo 3's because they usually required some investment.

Now, as for MMOs... I don't really play MMOs but most of their side-quest are just time sink >_> "Kill X monsters or collect Y materials". I want more side quests, but I don't want to have uninspiring side quests.

I would just like to add that games such as LoL and DotA2 need to pump out content regularly. That's how they make their money. In the case of LoL, people buy skins and other cosmetic stuff. Making new champions is an investment. In the case of DotA, I haven't followed them that much after spending 7 years on it. In their case, they need to keep balancing the game and keep the game fresh. They need to attract a lot of players and they need to retain as many as possible. With a lot of players come with "a lot of viewership" (etc) in tournaments. The more people watches your game through Twitch or whatever service there is, the more money you can make from ads (etc).

posted a message on NPCs should give side-quests :)
I posted on the Diablo 3 forum, without much success. I figured I might post it here as well.

    ---

Back in Diablo 1, some optional quests were given by NPC or through certain events.

-For example, when walking towards the entrance of the Cathedral, you could see a mortally wounded man on the floor. He would beg you to kill the Butcher to avenge the death of town-folks.

-Upon creating a new game, there was a possibility that the fountain behind Cain was contaminated. Cain would ask you to find the source and cleanse their water supply.

-Upon exploring the gruesome underground, you could come across a rather epic quest for the Valor Armor (not sure of the name).

-You could be given the quest to put the Mad King to rest (well... until he reawakens again).

Those quests weren't just "Trigger and complete it within the next 5 minutes. You had to dedicate some time. The rewards were good, at least, for the first time. The Butcher's cleaver... The Unique Ring. The Valor armor or Crown...

Back in Diablo 1, we had Random events and we had NPCs giving us random quests.

    ---

Now, in Diablo 3, we have Random events and random dungeons. While the Random events and dungeons could use extra work to make them more appealing, NPCs desperately need to give us optional quests. Those quests need to require investment. We don't necessairely need to walk far away, but it need to take some time to complete it.

Here's some example of side quest that could be interesting, IMO.

    Covetous Shen's Gem

While in Act 3, Covetous Shen has a chance to give you this quest. He informs you that there's a valuable Gem somewhere beneath the snow in the Battlefield area. An additional dungeon is unlocked (can only be unlocked after speaking to him) upon talking to him. It is a multi-tier dungeon with a random event and a purple mini-boss at the end of the dungeon. After defeating the boss, he MAY drop a higher quality gem (he is guaranteed to drop at least 1 gem. He may drop multiple gems as well).

This quest is a nice homage, IMO, to the Countess in Diablo 2.

    Haedrig Eamon's Enchanted Hammer

While in Act 2, Haedrig Eamon has a chance to give you this quest. He informs you that his Enchanted Hammer was lost many years ago when he met his now deceased wife. Rumor has it that demons are now using it to forge weapons. He informs you that the Hammer must be retrieved at once.

A new zone in the Oasis is now unlocked. Somewhere in the Oasis lies the Fallen Smith. The Fallen has claimed the Hammer as his own and is using it to forge deadly weapons for his minions. There's even rumors that this Fallen is slowly trying to take Rakanishu's throne. You will face stronger version of Fallen monsters in that area. The Fallen Smith is a Fast, Strong and resilient foe. Upon defeating the Fallen Smith, he will drop the Enchanted Hammer. Return it to Haedrig Eamon and he shall grant you a "Free" crafting item... but you will still need to bring him the required materials.

This quest is a nice homage to the Smith in D2 and Charsi. It also serves as an additional homage to Rakanishu.

posted a message on New Internal Patch: Adventure Mode Tutorials, Maps for All Acts, Call of the Ancients and More
I get a feeling that adventure mode isn't an "open world" where you can travel between any Acts. I feel that it's a series of map, dungeons, random events and 1-2 bosses at the end. The questing part is gone.

I guess it's similar to Loot Runs (Nephalem Rifts?) but longer.

I'm having a hard time understanding the hate towards "Enchanting and BoA". If you don't want to enchant, by all means, don't. Trade it to someone who is willing to do it. It increases the range of viable items. It also means that more items you find could potentially be good. If you don't want to enchant, like I said before, trade it to someone who will.

There's a "huge" outcry for permanency or meaningful choice. We now have a "permanent (BoA)" and meaningful choice and they all complain about it >_>

It's almost as if people were only playing a single character. Your BoA item will most likely be useful for another class you have.

I don't think a socket is mandatory in RoS. I might go for CDR :) A Ruby doesn't increase your damage that much when your weapon can already roll 3000 dps. Now, we just need to know what will happen with CHD :o

I also think that the massive increase in damage % dealt by skills means that they are trying to make stuff less gear dependent.

I think it's to give skills a role... I mean, back then... two Resource Generation could deal the same amount of damage as a Resource Spender (sometimes, it could deal more!). With this change, Spender deal a lot more damage than generator (well, except the Barb's generator with cooldown, I suppose).

Well, that's what Archon is supposed to be --- a sudden surge of power to turn the tide of battle.

6000% weapon damage is insane, but I think I prefer Barb's Earthquake - Ground Stomp. Now, that is real madness.

Hey Lylirra, I wonder if adding an enemy affix that does "Horror" would make the game feel a bit more "Gothic". In short, it drastically reduces your vision (much like Light Radius in Diablo 2 when you were in a dark cave). You wouldn't know what's coming at you. It would be a nice touch.

Interesting thought! Happy to pass it on. :)

    That's me :)

posted a message on Death needs to be punishable ideas
Well, it's quite simple... Death will be punishable:

-> You will most likely fail or do poorly your Nephalem Trial if you die (many of them will be timed in a way)
    -> Durability lost (gold)
    -> Time lost
    -> Goblin escape

    That's good enough already IMO.

I remember beating Inferno Belial for the first time pre-nerf. I WAS SO HAPPY. Nothing can top that feeling --- not even Inferno Diablo pre-nerf.

Speaking of Diablo... I remember when Shadow Clones were hitting harder than Diablo himself...

posted a message on Loot Runs! Add your ideas :)
    Quote from Mob_Dylan

I have an Idea for Loot runs that has to do with Rare packs.

    Blues - Champions
    Yellows - Elites
    Purples- Unique(Bosses)

This is how it stands now.

What if during a loot run there was a very rare chance that it would spawn a Legendary pack that had maybe an extra affix or had a specific affix only legendary packs can have(enrage timer maybe =P)

They would be tough to take down but would have a guaranteed Legendary or Set drop and would grant you an extra Loot Run Token. So now it would look something like this:

    Blues - Champions
    Yellows - Elites
    Purples- Uniques (Bosses)
    Rust/orange- Titans

    Just an idea =3

    Example of Titan...?

    Rakanishu

-> Fallen spawns periodically until Rakanishu is slain.
-> Fallen Hound spawns periodically (slow)
-> Fallen Shaman spawns periodically (slower)
-> Fallen Overseer spawns periodically (slowest)
