So what do all of you think about the price of square gems increasing after 1.0.5? (square gems will no longer drop)

Right now, square amethysts are going for ~69 gold each, and square topazes are at ~61 gold each (US AH).
Due to them becoming more scarce after the patch, even if they go up to 200 gold each, buying them now would result in 300%+ profit. It is possible that the price on amethysts will skyrocket due to people wanting that extra +life% in helms for ubers.

Would you say buying a crapload of square gems is super risky? Because I've bought over 16k squares so far.

I think that's quite the stretch and I'm not quite sure I follow your reasoning. I expect the price of flawless to drop (due to increased supply and decreased demand) and that will also cause the squares to drop as well. Why would the demand of squares rise?

In fact, I believe the demand of squares will lower because you won't have people wanting to buy a square to combine after a farming session that left you with a odd number of squares to upgrade to a flawless square.

You might be right. I figured that, since squares were no longer going to drop, and the next lesser gem would be the one dropping the most, players would have plenty of whatever gem is dropping to combine into squares, but then would need more squares to keep upgrading. It would take time to find more gems to create squares, so people would likely just buy them to upgrade more.

I don't know, though. Maybe it will be the thing to just buy higher gems and sell lesser gems all the time. I'm guessing that a portion of the player base needs to keep crafting gems in order for higher ones to even be available, though.

Where are you guys getting that the squares will no longer drop at all? They will still drop in Hell, just not Inferno.
