The +7-8% damage to Poison from Zunimassa is spelled poorly, there're some posts (and blue posts) on it

    Here it is:
    http://www.diablofans.com/blizz-tracker/topic/233940-x-elemental-damage-mechanic-blue-clarify/

An interesting sentence: "We realize the current wording for this affix can be confusing, and it's something we'd like to make more clear in the future."

Damnit, this post is two months old. How long can it take to rename an affix?

It's nowhere near OP because all these items are not necessarily BiS. For example, for wizards even a perfectly rolled Tyrael's will never be as good as a Tal Rasha armor. Unity can have pretty amazing stats if you're lucky, but to my knowledge it can't roll trifecta. And keep in mind that even on Alkaizer runs you're fighting elites for only about ~10 of the time, most of the time you'll just see white mobs along your way - all the bonus vs elite doesn't give you any benefit there.

3 - This spec doesn't feel great for solo uberbosses - any suggestions for an optimal spec/MP level for these?

Loroese already answered all your gear questions, I have nothing to add but one small thing: there is absolutely no reason to solo uber bosses. If you like a challenge - sure, go for it. But you will always find a group of people to help you, because for them it's a free chance for organs and you might get an invite back if they have machines and are looking for a CMWW tank mage. It's a win-win situation. If you decide to try the bosses solo you face the possibility of failing and wasting machines. Oh, and another thing: if you have a disconnect, the the portal is gone; in a group the portal stays open and you can re-join (the group has to abort the uber kill attempt though because you can't join an ongoing fight).

And god i hate the "corpse runs" when i die a mile away from the checkpoint in solo play.

There's no corpse you need to loot like in D2, and there's probably no loot either because the mobs are still alive and kicking. Just skip the area and go somewhere else :-)

On topic: I always run around with a life steal weapon and try to avoid heavy DPS spells (e.g., Archon) as soon as I encounter damage reflect. Most of the time it more or less works out. If I die and/or find it too challenging, I just skip the pack unless I feel that they personally offended me (sometimes my ego is bigger than my desire to do an efficient farm run).

Attack speed is important, but should not be more important than socket/crit on a weapon. It's so dirt cheap on many other slots, but giving up the socket for a 100% crit damage gem or the only opportunity for life steal on gear... no way.

    I have a < 1000 dps chantodo (999.77, haha) with 3% ls/10 apoc/some int and it's more than enough speed gain compared to my 1.5 sword (has ias). but i still don't wear the chantodo's except for uber fights, because the dps loss is almost never justified. chantodo's force though is awesome because it offers decent dps paired with ias on the off-hand... always a tough choice, sometimes i even switch in combat ;-) 1000="" dps="" chantodo="" (999.77,="" haha)="" with="" 3%="" ls/10="" apoc/some="" int="" and="" it's="" more="" than="" enough="" speed="" gain="" compared="" to="" my="" 1.5="" sword="" (has="" ias).="" but="" i="" still="" don't="" wear="" the="" chantodo's="" except="" for="" uber="" fights,="" because="" the="" dps="" loss="" is="" almost="" never="" justified.="" chantodo's="" force="" though="" is="" awesome="" because="" it="" offers="" decent="" dps="" paired="" with="" ias="" on="" the="" off-hand...="" always="" a="" tough="" choice,="" sometimes="" i="" even="" switch="" in="" combat="">

As a rough guess, I would expect Power of the Storm to increase dps by around 12%. My thought is that AP reduction of 3 means WW costs 32 which is around 10% cost reduction, and CR goes from 20 to 17 which is 15% cost reduction, so if you split the difference it's around 12-13%. That would put the total damage boost around 1.35*1.12 = 1.52 or around 50-55% damage increase for Storm Armor plus Power rune.

This could become very effective when you use Mistral Breeze. Hm... anyone ever tried Mistral Breeze + Prism + Power of the Storm? 10 AP Twisters all over the place... I'm gonna try this tonight.

since people are having trouble understanding how chance versus averages works...

You have a 10% chance per MP level to get the key... so 9 outta 10 you wont get it is the average .. but there is not promise run it 10 times and you get it, since the chance is reset every single attempt...

You do not gain reduce your chance of not getting it by running it more, you maintain the exact same chance..
Example: MP5 act 1 key run

    Run# 1 - no key (50% loser column)
    2 - no key (50% loser)
    3 - "
    4 - "

Ad infinitum... it does not matter how many times you run it, if there is a chance to lose that is a constant.. your personal average may not be 50% but the chance is still 50%..

Exactly, and here's another thing many people fail to understand:
If you are farming on MP1, your chances to get a key drop are 10% for the first run. And for the second run. And the third. And so on...
Even if you made 20 runs without a key drop, the 21st run still gives you a 10% chance. It does not increase "because once every ten runs I should get a key". Perfect example for chance versus average. (And a perfect example why it just *feels* more rewarding to farm keys on higher levels.. tough runs on high MP are painful, but feel better than ten easy runs without a drop)

This thread reminds me of the RNG madness in early WoW... "if your raid leader is a shaman, the first person to enter Molten Core is a druid night elf whose name starts with a letter 'M' and you kill the first mob in less than 10 seconds, then you'll have at least one binding drop for sure!"

OP is not interested in discussing this topic - he's looking for people to second his conspiracy theories. If you don't agree with him, he'll insult you. Great... no wonder he was banned.

Awesome! Thanks for all the work, doing the test runs and writing this up. Extremely informative.

Just to make sure: I'm assuming your two main spells were WW+EB? It would be interesting to see how this works with the non-APoC-CM builds (Blades, Shock). I'll see if I have time to run similar tests this week... probably not too soon.

I felt that Shocking Aspect is quite a DPS increase, but that much? Wow. The increase in DPS also means increased life steal - which could almost justify the decrease in survivability. If you have 4.5%, it could work out quite well...

Do you have any idea for similar benchmarks to test for survivability? It's a shame that we don't have log files about incoming damage or so, it would make things so easy. I don't like that I have to rely on my subjective feeling which defense spells work best...

I'm no computer savvy guy but....It seems to me that a program on Blizzards end to check the redundancy of newly entered items is in order.

In other words, a program that checks newly posted items (before the 5 min hold time is over) against all other items on the AH via item ID. This would render all duped items as incapable of being traded on the AH, which would literally be a death nail to the duping trade.

    This seems so simple.

It seems that either a) there is no internal unique item ID or b ) if there is, a "duped" item gets a new ID. Anyways, you need these item IDs before you can add the rule you suggest, because their might be legit duplicate items. In fact, for simple blue items with only 1-2 stats (low-level) there are many duplicates. And gems all look the same...

As for now it seems that gem prices are returning back to normal. A bit envious of people that took advantage of the 5m radiant gems.

I don't think so... it's more an up and down as it has been for the past 10 days (at least on EU AH). It's much like stock trading - prices go up a bit, lots of people buy, price goes up even more. Until a new wave of gems hits the market and price goes down again.

Who came up with this consensus? I mean, I disagree with pretty much everything you said.

It was discussed in these threads:
    http://www.diablofan...for-time-spent/
    http://www.diablofan...-105-sweetspot/

And on the official forums as well, can't find it right now. And about the "disagreeing to everything", to me there's almost no difference between what you wrote and the core essence of RockmanDoom's post... => If you die, go down one MP level. (Again, that's more or less consensus)

Edit: Ah well, you can also read it that he's kind of telling him to stay on MP2. Well, then I agree with your disagreement... "decent speed" and "1 minute per elite pack" is too much, for efficient farming you want to breeze through everything.

posted a message on Gear Question
It's not that easy, because (thankfully) the wizard in D3 is not a complete "two builds, nothing else" story anymore. There are many different builds, slight variations of existing builds, and depending on your play style many different choices for gear. Many times you just want to see what gear you can grab for a reasonable price and create a build around it.

For example, let's take the Tal Rasha's (TR for brevity) vs Tyrael's Might (T M). The worst-rolled TR would give you 120 int, 30 vit, 8% attack speed and 3 sockets - still a nice chest for most of us, and extremely useful if you're on a CM build because it's the only chest with IAS. However, a TR with allres is extremely expensive (and you need allres in the end game). TM will always give you movement speed, damage vs elite, all resistance, and int. However, you can only roll one additional stat, e.g., vitality OR 3 sockets - never both. Which means, a godly rolled TM will never keep up with a TR. But if you are on an Archon build, where speed is more important than defense (your goal is to kill everything before it can touch you or even take notice of your presence), and you're low on money, you might prefer getting a TM. As a side effect, if you have the movement speed on chest armor, you don't need Lacuni's or Inna's anymore and can save a lot on these slots, too.

You always have to look at your gear as a whole: do I need DPS or EHP? In terms of DPS, do I need IAS, crit chance, crit damage, int? In terms of EHP, do I need life, allres, armor? What about other useful stats like LoH/LS, movement speed, pickup radius, health globes? (You want all of this on 1-2 pieces of your gear.) That's exactly why people post their characters and ask for advice on what to buy next - it's always up to your budget, playing style, favorite builds, and existing gear. I myself keep old items and have two, almost three different sets - one for max damage on MP0 in Archon, one for uber fights on high MP with CMWW as group tank, and sometimes mix gear. I rarely pick the same gear+build two days in a row - always trying out new stuff (and I don't have any godly items).

Well, thanks for the tips anyway. At least now I really know how this class has been destroyed.

How exactly has this class been destroyed? Completely disagree - Blizzard is trying to make many different builds playable and doesn't want every wizard to have the same spec. There's a lot of variety and many new options especially since 1.05. People are slowly discovering new awesome builds, like Jaetch's hybrid ShockArchon.

If you like a spec that is not an awesome cookie cutter but lacks survivability (you mentioned that you don't want to get APoC, LoH, LS, allres) then Blizzard has something else to offer: Monster Power. Just play on a lower MP level - even playing MP0 is absolutely worth it, the higher MPs are only there for farming keys/organs, people with extreme high-end gear, or showing off.
