shaggy posted a message on On Enchanting Legacy Gear (Repost)Level 60 gear, quite simply, has very different (and in many cases, completely broken) rules for rolling stats.Posted in: Diablo III General Discussion
There has to be some kind of separation between gloves that can, essentially, roll 6 primary stats, and other gloves that are capped at 3 or 4 primary stats otherwise the ones that have 6 primary stats OBVIOUSLY become better than 95%+ of the 3 or 4 primary stat gloves. It's just common sense.
This isn't simply a case of "just buff level 70 shit" - it's not exactly genius to suggest MORE stat inflation, by the way - it's more of a case of "unless we do something, a handful of level 60 stuff is going to be super-desireable because we've completely changed HOW items are generated." SOME level 60 items basically have a massive loophole in how they roll as compared to their loot 2.0 counterparts. Something has to be done whether we like it or not.
It would be ABSURD for people to be rocking BiS-type items day 1 in RoS because they didn't do anything. This is a clear example of doing something > doing nothing, even if the "something" is controversial.
EDIT
I mean, honestly, do you people really want MORE instances of Legacy Nat's? I'd think it's much better for the game if they avoid stuff like that. Strangely enough, Legacy Nat's never got nerfed because people use the "I spent so much time attaining this so you can't nerf it!" logic... even though most of us knew the set bonus would still be OP. When did people start to expect that a level 60 item would have a shot at being useable at level 70? I sure as hell never found a level 50 item and expected it to compete with level 60 items... because that seems patently shortsighted and ignorant. -

Bagstone posted a message on Blizzard removes enchanting for "60 items", oh but 2.0.1 60s can be enchanted...@MC: Your videos are really quite informative and you come across as a decent, calm guy. But on the forums you just lose your temper and it's eventually up to Blizzard to take action when you go beyond the rules. Sorry for the ban, but after a couple of rage posts it was kinda justified. Should've taken a deep breath and explained your point of view in humble words. That thread had great potential, now it might even get locked soon because it's not constructive anymore.Posted in: Diablo III General Discussion
@Topic: This was more than obvious, and in all these threads asking for which level 60 items to buy now for RoS it was mentioned that eventually Blizzard will do something to prevent that legacy items are gonna be useful. Really, no one can say "didn't see that coming". Two more things:
1) You say "if level 60 items are better than level 70 items, fix level 70 items first instead of preventing enchanting". Well, the reason why some legacy items are so good is just because they were absolutely broken and overpowered. There's nothing to fix at level 70, the problem lies within the level 60 itemization. Items like Mempo and Witching Hour are just too strong. It's just not possible to "fix level 70" and make people go away from a WH if you were even able to enchant that belt. I said it all along, enchanting legacy items had to be restricted in order to avoid these situations of keeping "broken" items. Just like with BoA, they went full tilt mode with no enchanting at all - but in this case, I can understand it.
2) I can't believe some of the things I read over there. A few people are arguing they have a right to hold on to legacy items and enchant them because this is what they have been doing since F&F beta. Holy crap, whoever uses this as an argument should never get invited to a beta again. Any beta invite has huuuuuuuuge disclaimers that absolutely everything is subject to change. If you enter any beta, draw your conclusions, and prepare your live character with the assumption that the current state of the beta will look the same once the game is released, you simply don't understand what beta means. You're testing stuff, you've not been given a glimpse into the future to get an advantage over other people.
I personally welcome this change. Just like BoA I can see that a lot of people will be upset, but I think it's necessary. I was also relieved to see someone like INVIS posting in favor of this change - let's face it, he will probably lose dozens of billions due to this change, but he understands why this is the best solution. -

Anyway, here's the progress I've made so far after re-importing and wiping my characters for like the third or fourth time. I decided to play around with a cold-based Meteor wizard and I think it does a pretty good job for normal farming runs.
Rift Guardian took forever, though. Oh, well.
Here's a full uncut Nephalem Rift run on Torment II.

shaggy posted a message on Class Restricted LootPosted in: Diablo III General DiscussionQuote from Zero(pS)
I understand the reason for that kind of change (if it is the way we assume), but this is another huge hit to people who enjoy playing multiple classes (like me).
When playing with my strongest character, I won't find as many upgrades to my other chars, and I will probably never even play those weaker characters because of how bad it is farming with them (much less efficient than using my main).
This kind of change really worries me as to how far the dev team is willing to go to hold people's hands and make them feel good about themselves.
This worries me more than BoA, actually.
If I switch from <main toon> to <other toon> that means, for all intents and purposes, I have to start all over again. Ultimately that means I might play the other toons casually, but I will never have any kind of serious investment in them because I'm NOT going to replay the item hunt with every toon I've rolled. It's too much busy work.
A major part of the fun in this game for people (which started with D2) is finding an item and twinking with it. Having a game where smart drops take over and you aren't finding twink items is just killing off another aspect of the game that people find enjoyable.
Instead of "smart drops" we need items to be of quality, regardless of what class they are for. We don't need 75%+ of the items that drop to be locked by primary stat to the class that we're currently on. There are six classes in the game for a reason. There are twelve character slots in the game for a reason.
The problem with "smart drops" is that they are increasingly treating each character like an individual entity, and not treating the whole account like an individual entity. Why do we even have a shared stash when there is precious little to share? Why are items BoA when they may as well be BoP due to changes like this?
Achievements, stash, crafters, battletags, clans... all account-wide. Why aren't items being treated in the same manner? Why isn't the ACCOUNT the basic unit for items? I know it's not safe to assume that everyone has one of every class, but it's equally dangerous to assume that everyone has just one character and even more dangerous to assume that people don't want to find loot that doesn't correspond exactly to the class they're currently playing.
In all seriousness, how many of you are going to re-boot the item hunt once per character? I know I won't, and I worry that this is just another change that is putting a pre-defined shelf life on the game due to designed TEDIUM. Farming Torment 3 on your WD? Swap to your DH and you're stuck in Master because you don't find gear to give the DH. Is that REALLY going to be an engaging thing for you? For me, it almost certainly means "play one toon til you're done then hang it up" and that is pretty nonsensical given that twinking out alts has definitely been a big part of Diablo for lots and lots of players.

Bagstone posted a message on FREE TRADE vs BOA, there is no compromise!Posted in: Diablo III General DiscussionSigh. What a looooooooong text, and all of it under a completely wrong premise. While some of the things you say are sound, you got the entire motivation for your post wrong from the start.
Quote from mannercookie
The main reason that people are forBOA, is they somehow feel that it'sUNFAIRfor other people to play the game in the manner that they choose and that there needs to be an even playing ground in terms of progression for all players. However they try to put it, this is in the end their main argument, reasons such as 3rd party sites and bots are just points that are added to give logic to their argument. When will this finally stop. D3 is not a competitive game, there is no such thing as "unfair". Also, no one gives a rat's ass about 3rd party sites, D2JSP was never a problem in many years of playing Diablo 2.
The problem is that there are two extremes: 1) players who want to find all their upgrades themselves, who don't want to (publicly) trade - the self-found crowd. 2)players who trade every single item and maximize character progression with making perfect use of every single item they get by trading their way to the top.
Both approaches are totally fine and legit, and neither group should care about the other in a non-competitive game. However, both these groups play the same game with the same droprates, and that's the problem: how do you create a satisfying gaming experience for both of them? The easier it is to trade, and the more items are tradeable, the lower the droprates need to be (http://i.imgur.com/MN0b4eW.jpg). Blizzard just felt that there is no middle ground that makes both sides happy and decided to switch from one extreme (AH) to the other extreme (no trading except for the 2 hour window).
I've said it so many times - I think it's an overreaction to "teach everyone a lesson that the game is possible to be played without trading", but ultimately they will lift restrictions to something like clan trading (because right now I don't see too much benefit in clans). But these elitist statements like "oh, everything is BoA because the self-found players kept whining" are just insane. Self-found players had a grudge against the AH after Blizzard said it caused them to lower the droprates, but no self-found player I know ever tried to force other people into self-found or voted for BoA. Trading simply got out of hand to a point where people stopped playing the game, and BoA is an overreaction to bring these people back to the core of the game (just like Lylirra explained).
Edit: Fixed some horrible grammar mistakes after coffee finally kicked in.

KageKaze posted a message on "Vanilla" Difficulty and Loot 2.0 discussion (Diablo Digest)Posted in: Diablo III General DiscussionI know I already put this in the advertising thread, but I've already got a lot of discussion so I wanted to put this in its own thread to keep things from getting cluttered in that one. Here's my post from the official forums for people can see what is discussed if they cannot or do not want to watch.
Ladies and Gentlemen, it is that time again and a new Diablo Digest has been spawned. For those not familiar with it, the Diablo Digest series I created is something of a news summary and personal opinion video podcast. The reason I'm posting it here today and in the feedback forum is because it concerns my thoughts and impressions of the current 2.0.1 PTR and things I'm concerned about. My hope is, of course, to also make sure that it is viewed by Diablo devs so the opinions inside could be taken into consideration.
To keep lines of discussion open, I'll summarize for those that can't or don't wish to watch.
I like many of the changes happening in Reaper of Souls and a lot of the changes are available to test on the PTR. While things are looking up, there are still issues I would see addressed and hope they can be fixed or modified for the future.
Death and No-Taxes:
Death is but a stumbling block. Reviving at Corpse is not a feature I enjoy. I know many people are concerned about efficiency and would rather not lose those valuable seconds, but I want death to be something that is undesirable and to be avoided at all costs. Part of the fun in a game comes from overcoming challenges and having a risk to reward. I'm not talking about having to punish players for it, just a setback that says "hey I shouldn't do that again". Maybe a bonus for living some kind of benefit like Nephalem Valor was that you could lose if you died.Difficulty should not be restricted to expansion purchase:
Currently I'm in agreement with many people that Master difficulty mode is abit too easy. I'm not very geared and I can run Master mode without too much issue and I'm nowhere near geared for MP10 like others are. Either there needs to be change to how tough Master really is or Torment should be available to all players. I honestly don't see why the difficulty should be an unlockable feature at this point either. The previous unlockable difficulties were due to monster levels being tied directly into the 'beat the game multiple times' progression. Now that level progression is removed from the difficulties they should just be playable from the start, allowing players to choose what level of challenge they desire. For those concerned about giving non RoS purchasers any RoS benefits, those can all be tied to the expansion and turned off for basic players, but I really think there should be some kind of increased reward for base game players that makes it all worth while. The Templar healing is a bit too strong:
While leveling up and after getting the Templar, I found that the game suddenly lost its challenge. I took on Leoric the Skeleton King at around level 20 when the Templar got all his healing abilities. Leoric couldn't hurt me. At all. I think the Templar's healing needs to be reduced while leveling (maybe even at 60/70, not 100% on those) because it pretty much negates all damage you take. I intentionally run with only one of the spells because it feels more balanced that way.Loot 2.0 is Too Smart:
I like that smart loot drops, I like that finding upgrades is so much easier now and I don't have to get shut down by nasty RNG. However, I feel like smart drops are all I find. I get constant items with my stats, on occasion something neutral, but I have yet (not exaggerating here) to find loot with stats for another class (DEX, INT) outside of a class specific drop (Flail, Mighty Weapon). I've been unable to gear my Templar follower because I can't find STR gear for him on my Wizard. I had heard that Smart Drops would consider who your follower is when dropping items, I have yet to see that happen. Loot for other classes is so rare that I never find a piece that says to me "hey trying class X would be cool now that I found this neat item". I like loot 2.0 and smart drops, but I think it needs to be reigned in a little so that a little bit of randomness can return.Arts and Crafts:
Adding to the Loot 2.0 problem, I have an issue with crafting. I know that drops are being constantly evaluated, so I won't go into that too much, but know that I think Common Debris might need to be reevaluated. With Loot 2.0 the idea of making whites special might not be needed anymore. My main issue with crafting currently is becuase crafting is 100% smart, I can't even craft for my follower now. Nothing will roll STR unless it's class specific. If I want to make something for my Templar, I have to roll up a Barbarian to craft for him. My suggesting is to add some kind of switch or toggle on the UI that lets me choose between myself or my follower. Heck, let's take that a step further and add some kind of switch for being able to craft for any class. If I'm running in a party of friends and I want to craft a new weapon for a friend, I don't want it to have INT on it when he's a Demon Hunter. Maybe a radio button at the top to pick a class to craft for would be enough.
Okay that's the major topics, please enjoy the video (if you still decide to watch). I'm hopeful this will be considered in development.

Bagstone posted a message on Give ladders or riot !!!Posted in: Diablo III General DiscussionBlizzard has stated multiple times that Diablo 3 is not supposed to be competitive. It will not become just another eSports game (of which we already have more than enough, btw).
You think casual players are selfish? Well, what about if I tell you that all the people that want Blizzard to turn this game into just another eSports franchise are just as selfish?
As Wyatt stated, there are two aspects of ladder: one is the competition and one is the economy reset. From all we've read so far, it's become apparent that the latter is far more important to Blizzard than the competition. If you're only playing D3 because you hope eventually it will become a competitive game, you might want to move on - you might be waiting forever. And to be honest, there are more than enough other games out there that have what you're asking for...

shaggy posted a message on The definitive BoA Thread on Official D3 Boards.Posted in: Diablo III General DiscussionQuote from Bleu42
When it dropped, the sense of accomplishment, of what I had earned myself and myself only by actually playing the game and farming, was astounding.Really?
I have not felt any sense of "accomplishment" over any legendary I've found on the PTR. Mainly because everyone else has already found them, usually multiple times over. Like Zero said... when everyone is winning the lottery, it kinda makes winning the lottery less special. In fact, I'm finding smart drops (coupled with BoA) to be more frustrating than I ever thought they would be. I RARELY find non-int gear which means my scoundrel has little chance of getting upgrades. If I want to craft a non-int item I have to STOP PLAYING and switch characters.
70%+ of my items have int on them. Less than 10% have dex/str. Paragon 2.0 was supposed to make it such that it didn't matter what character we were farming on. Smart drops completely fucked that concept from here to hell and back. GENIUS!
I feel like Blizzard has turned D3 into an always-online single player game, and I don't like it. It's just not as fun as it should be. RoS has the potential to be a lot more fun, but it's falling far short because Blizzard decided that 100% self-found is the only "right" way to play the game. Mark my words, if they keep going with this the longevity of the game is going to suffer. There's no way I'm going to keep grinding for items in this system. It's actually WORSE than the AH + shitty drop rates.
EDIT
Don't get me wrong, I'll buy RoS and get my $40 worth. But my expectations have gone down significantly after playing the PTR. I realized that Blizzard isn't looking to make a game where the item hunt is engaging. They're looking to appease mouthbreathing neckbeards who keep chirping about the "emotional value" of items and how trading makes them cry tears for the Virgin Mary instead of making a game that actually has lasting power like its predecessor. -

Zero(pS) posted a message on My thoughts: PTRPosted in: Diablo III General DiscussionYou guys are mixing some things up.
First,Wands not rolling STR or Quivers not rolling INT isn't part of the Smart Drop system. It's merely an affix limitation, which is a fine change on its own. Those are also fine on their on.But when you pair all that with Smart Drops, it's just too much.
The Smart Drop system is having a lot of class-specific items drop for you (and almost NEVER have items from another class - I don't think I EVER saw a Quiver when leveling my Crusader all the way to 52),AND have MOST of those be touched by the"here's an almost maxed version of your stat".
It's even worse that Enchanting, Crafting and Gambling all seem to be affected by that.As long as I crafted or gambled something every 4-5 levels, I never had a single problem leveling my Crusader in Torment I. That's just bullshit. I didn't have to search for those items, because the "Guaranteed Great Item for You or Your Money Back" system always had my back.
ZERO RNG is much worse than FULL RNG, that's my main argument here. The other changes on their own were good enough to improve the item hunt, there is absolutely NO need to have a babysitting system like Smart Drops affect 80%+ of your drops.
It's an artificial way of improving the item hunt. By making sure everyone's "winning".It's so easy to have near max Mainstat + Vit throughout the ENTIRE leveling process. There's not one time where I had problems in terms of getting those stats.
Smart Drops in the long run will not make anyone feel better about "winning the lottery". If everyone is winning the lottery, then nobody really is.

It's harsh to not being able to enchant old items or not being able to use a particular build without an enchanted classic item but it's necessary to move away from the ultra stacked items that we had in this game. The sooner we forget about LS/CHD/Socket weapons and tri/quadrifecta jewels the better.
And i'm pretty sure after a month in RoS, this "problem" will be forgotten because we already found better stuff to gear our toons with.
1
And can streamers stop ralling their troops on this site? We already had "Give XXX or riot" stupidity born from Twitch.tv. If some of you want to post on forums, try to post more than a +1, a catchphrase or a Kappa (oh, we don't have those, thanks god).

The OP posted his concern is a good way and i think no one is trolling here.
I pre ordered the CE, but i'm looking closely as beta goes on. At the moment i'm not satisfied from what i saw on the PTR and i don't think this game will have a long term gameplay. As much i didn't like Ladder and i never traded in D2, those features need to be implemented in RoS to keep the playerbase engaged in some sort of activities beside the usual "Kill Monsters, Farm Bounties, repeat".
My hope is that they will add more end game events (we have no idea how Uber Bosses are being reworked) and revert their decision on BoA.
If i won't see a big development during Beta, i will probably cancel my pre order and wait for a sale in the future for the Standard Edition.

You play this game every day but still don't like it. From your previous posts, it looks like PoE is your game. THEN QUIT DIABLO 3!
There are other ARPGs these days, we aren't in the Diablo 2 era when that was the only game of the genre, you have a, oh my god, choice!
I'm really tired of these kind of threads. It shows how stupid some people can be, forcing themselves to play a game they don't like for some reason and then jump on forums saying how long they play it but another company works better in their opinion.... Is this a rational behaviour?
Oh, and you pre ordered RoS too? Are we going to see a thread on release where you say that PoE is still better? Because i think you wasted your money.

Ladder will be needed, but it's not End Game. The End Game in a Diablo game (and clones) is the item hunt.
Recently i've started to think that i will play Ladder too but not for competition (good luck racing against 24/7 streamers and botters) but because a reset once in a while will be refreshing. A new character, new items to drop are a nice thing when you reached a point you don't progress anymore because you got everything you need or you are just bored.
Now i just want to know what's the End Game most people are talking about...

This is interesting, original and thoughtful thread.

The problem is that Blizzard always swings between extremes before finding a decent middle ground.
RoS is bringing some good things to D3, specifically build changing Legendaries and Adventure mode but we see problems with the tuning. Master is too easy, legendaries are too rare, smart loot is too frequent. Those are the things that are making me less excited about the future of the game, but i'm sure that they will be tuned a lot better than the build we are playing now on the test realm, it's just that no one is working these days because it's holiday season and we won't have a new beta patch until january.
1
IF there will be ladder, i think a way to adress the character slot limit is to create temporary slots for Ladder and when the season ends you will choose which character to keep and transfer over Standard.
Stash will be a bit trickier but the guys from Path of Exile found a good system. When a season ends, all your items in the storage are transfered over your standard chest and if there is no room the game will create "read only" pages to store the equipment in excess. You can't use these pages to put new items in but only to remove them; when the page is emptied, it's removed. Correct me if i'm wrong about this, i read infos about Seasons in PoE some time ago when i played it, but never saw how it really worked.
