posted a message on Elemental damage on weapons.
I can't believe people are still arguing this. IT WAS FIGURED OUT FOUR MONTHS AGO!!!

I'm not even going to go into the math for the 100th time, but if you want you can search through my posts to find an example where I have. Here is a very well written post on reddit that 100% ACCURATELY DESCRIBES how "+x% to elemental damage" works, regardless of what Blizzard's half assed description and blue post says. It even provides an in game test you can perform to check your calculations.

    www (dot) reddit (d ot) com/ r/Diablo/comments/vznuv/how_innas_damage_works/

Basically, "+x% to elemental damage" works like a "+x-y Damage" affix on a ring or amulet, except that it scales with the rest of your gear. It's that fucking simple. You always get the bonus to damage, regardless of what elemental type your weapon is, or what elemental type the skill you're using is

HOWEVER, if you're using a "+x% to cold damage" affix, you only get the cold/snare effect applied if you're using a skill that says "weapon damage" or "as physical" in the tool tip. It doesn't matter whether your item has only physical damage (the so called, and wrongly worded "black damage type") or if it has any element associated with it too. The only difference between physical damage weapons and elemental damage weapons is that physical damage weapons have higher minimum physical damage, and thus receive GREATER benefit from these "+x% to elemental damage" affixes, but any weapon receives a bonus in the end.

posted a message on nerfing ww barbs again?
People love whirlwind builds, the synergy is amazing, as is the critical mass wizard build synergies. These skill interactions is what makes games like this awesome, Blizzard knows that. Because of this I think it's more likely that other classes will receive buffs rather than barbs getting nerfed more. At least, I hope that is what happens.

if you can get 1200 dps without attack speed that would be better too. a mace would be the best because it has the slowest attack speed (compared to axe, both have the best weapon master bonus) which guarantees a high damage range, which is important for tornados.

Great work, but I believe Sharp Shooter gives you +3% critical hit chance natively (i.e., even when it resets, you always receive +3% crit chance on top of what you already had). I haven't used SS in quite a while, so this might've changed.
that's not right, if you critically hit within 2 seconds, then your critical chance profit is less than 3%

No, you're not following what he's saying. The skill sharpshooter increases your base critical hit chance by 3%, and then adds another 3% every second thereafter. For example, if you have 50% critical hit chance without sharpshooter, and then enable the skill, your character sheet will read 53%. Every second you don't crit, you gain 3% crit chance. When you do crit, your crit chance will reset to 53%, NOT 50%. This is a huge difference, and if you haven't taken that into consideration, your formula and paper are incorrect. Sharpshooter has a guaranteed 3% crit chance value 100% of the time.

posted a message on Trouble keeping up WotB
I usually have no problems keeping wrath up for 10 minutes or longer in higher monster power (5+). The key is to get a cast of sprint procing on as many mobs as you can, then stand still and tank one with bash - instigation while spamming battle rage and sprint at the same time, like swazi suggested. Without Wrath I have 50.5% crit chance and 2.14/2.64 attack speed on my main/off hand respectively, so my results might be atypical. If you're using a ww/weapon throw hybrid build, you can use weapon throw just as effectively. When I do this I watch the Wrath buff icon and it looks like it's rewinding at 3x speed.

I haven't figured it out yet, but eventually it seems like regardless of what I do, or how many mobs I hit, I can't gain more time on the ticker. The best I can hope for is to maintain the current remaining seconds, but inevitably the timer creeps towards it's end. But this is normally long, long after the cool down expires anyway.

posted a message on Is 2% life steal enough?
I'm not familiar with monk, but I'd say get as much as life steal and as much life on hit as you can. Life steal takes an 80% penalty in Inferno difficulty, so a perfect 3% life steal weapon is only going to return .6% of damage done as life. It's generally believed that life steal trumps life on hit at around 100k dps, but again, I don't play monk so maybe someone more knowledgeable can help you out with class specifics.

You don't appear to have any life on hit or life steal, that is your biggest problem. Aside from that, I can't see anything wrong with your gear for Monster Power 2 or even higher maybe.

    Quote from Vagabond

Essentially the question becomes, besides Nat's legacy set (and infinite gloom) how would a DH deal with a 30-40 million HP elite if this 'monster power' system buffs dmg and health to something like a factor of 8? Because nothing but the elite of the elite DH will be able to take down that much HP in 2 discipline balls (one + prep). While very well I could take my barb and whirl/sprint for 10 minutes but as long as my EHP/LoH/Mitigation is high enough I'll definitely win.

I think that is more of a problem with the barbarian metagame, rather than the big picture of how this patch is going to work. If only the elite of the elite can handle the most difficult setting with the new system, how is that a problem? Personally, if they're making normal inferno even easier, I hope they add 4 or 5 difficulties beyond that, maybe one or two harder than the original inferno.

Helm, gloves, rings and amulet. It shouldn't be too expensive to find upgrades for those slots that have better dps stats while maintaining mf. You're lacking a lot of crit chance and damage, and attack speed couldn't hurt either. Also, you're probably not getting a whole lot out of nightstalker with 20% crit chance.

I think the skill would be much more viable if it allowed you to move through mobs like whirlwind, I always got trapped in a death ball of monsters every time I tried to use it. I found the damage to be lacking as well, but I haven't tried it since the patch.

Use vault and problem is solved.

Not really, because using that discipline for Gloom is almost required if you're going to be in that close in the first place.

So you're telling me I do more damage by channeling a low DPS ability and moving somewhere than by vaulting there almost instantly in between shots and continuing to do high DPS?

I've tried to get Strafe to work way too often to know that it simply doesn't. Even with >40% crit and using the double damage on crit rune it still deals horrible DPS compared to anything.

posted a message on Details with Rapid Fire?
I think you'll see that it's 275% damage over one second if you compare one shot of Rapid Fire to one shot of say, Elemental Arrow. If Rapid Fire were doing 275% damage each shot, the numbers on screen would be a lot be larger than those from Elemental Arrow, which they are not.
