    Quote from J_McJohnStein

Stutter stepping is, in my opinion, the result of poor planning of class skills on Blizzard's part. If wizards had a reliable kiting skill that didn't have to take more than 8 seconds to cool down, then most likely, there wouldn't be the need to stutter step almost all the time (I have very early carpal tunnel so stutter stepping a decent amount aggravates it).

Stutter stepping is actually to reset your attack animation so you attack more often in a shorter time. More time attacking = more damage done = shorter fight.

Except this is wrong as you do not shoot any faster no matter how hard you stutter step.

However, what I remember about the item was the name: "The Helmet"

I craft a lot, If I happen to feel energetic, I might throw in a few quick act 3 runs while stuff sells, but lately I've been losing hope in my drops and just buy everything from AH. Figured I'd get the best gear faster by just playing the AH whole day instead.

This is pretty much it. But then one has to wonder, what do I do with all this gear? I play the AH more than I play the game.

Because this is an AH game with a bit of ARPG minigame, silly!

posted a message on Hit detection broken, dodging impossible
It's intentional that once a mob "locks on" and start the swing animation, you're bound to get hit no matter how far you run. So when you saw they raised their axe (QQ executioner) you're already going to get hit no matter how hard you try to run. This is likely implemented to avoid abusing slow animation to never get it by stutter stepping nonstop.

Some mobs, however, have a giant attack that targets THE GROUND instead of you. Examples are dark berserker, the fallen overseer, or butcher charge up attack. These are meant to be dodged so you can easily avoid them.

posted a message on Will farming with 0 MF totally gimp me?
I don't think a lot of people in here realize what mf does.

First, there's the guaranteed loot (1 from elite and 2 from bosses at 5NV), and that's not affected by mf. If you kill 10 packs with 5NV you will get at least 10 rares no matter what your mf is.

Now, excluding the guaranteed rares, say for every 10 magic or higher quality items that drops for you, 1 of those happen to be rare with 0 mf (on avarage and I'm completely pulling out numbers here, don't quote me on this). Once you equipped 100% mf this double the chance for the magic quality or higher to become rare (and also more chance for white to turn blue, but let's ignore that for now). As a result now you're seeing 2 rares for every 10 magic or better items.

If you're only interested in rares (as most of us are), then you could say equipping 100% mf doubles the rate you're finding rares (it also double the rate at which you're getting blue and legendary, but it can be a bit complicated, let's just say it double rares only). This means if you're equipping 100% mf and killing stuff at half the pace, you should be seeing the same amount of rares. On the other hand, if you're using 0% mf and kill twice as fast, then it makes no difference you're still getting as many drops as you could've with 100% mf.

Now, this DOES NOT take into account of the guaranteed drops and 75% mf from NV. This can depend on how many of your drop comes from the guaranteed loots, but it makes killing with 0%mf twice as fast slightly more profitable.

However, from experience I find that wearing 135% mf gives you a yield of about 2-3 expected rares per elite pack at 5NV, while running 0%mf gives you about 1-2 expected rares (both of these includes the guaranteed rares). My friend who always run at 0% mf also notice a huge boost in rare drops when I join his party.

Moral of the story? mf gives you the most rare/hr per stat budget, provided that you don't gimp yourself too much and takes forever to kill/die too often. My advice is to not forsake dps for the sake of mf (a bit is fine), but if you can find upgrade with mf on it, the more bonus for you. Of course, if you're having problem dying you might also want to rethink about lowering defensive stat for mf.

posted a message on Is it still possible to do a complete fresh clear of Act 3/4 as a 2H barb?

i farm a3 everyday with my 2h barb and a full clear takes like 2 hours.I mainly skip all white mobs and look for rares WoTB/EQ then alttab until cd is ready and run again :)I also solo cleared a4.
    50k dps , 800 ar , 50k life 3% LS ez game

JEEBUS how the hell can you get 50k dps AND 50k life while keeping 800 res???

I've been working my ass off to boost my dps up to 40k and sometimes 45k, but my hp suffered greatly. Now I'm only at around 32k hp.

I can work on getting my hp up... but then my res or dps drop to nothing :(

posted a message on Is it still possible to do a complete fresh clear of Act 3/4 as a 2H barb?
Yes it is viable as I've done it from time to time (It's still a bit challenging with my gear and act2 is giving more reward/time until I gear up a bit more).

Based on your stat I'd say try to get more res, if at all possible. I've noticed that 700-800 is the bare minimum to do act3, but going 900 to 1000 allows you to live significantly more. I know it can be kinda hard to get res up to 1k as 2h barb.... but if you could then it can become much easier.

What is your build like? I think the best way to go 2h for act3 now (until you overgear it a bit, after that you can do whatever you want) is by relying mostly on slam and do a bit of midrange kiting.

I wouldn't go with cleave as you wouldn't want to be hitting more than 2 mobs at a time (if you can hit them in melee range, so can they). The key is to try to minimize the number of mobs that can hit you at a time. You have to do a lot of stutter step, hit and back up, so you only hit one mob at a time (and only one mob hit you). For this reason I find bash works much better. Also with 150% damage from bash it's much easier to 1-2 shot mobs compare to cleave.

I've been thinking about whether it's at all possible to drop Ignore Pain for some other ability. The 30 seconds cooldown is pretty long. However it's proven to be mostly enough to burn through elite packs or just to heal back up to full when you've made too many mistakes.

Maybe I could swap in iron impact with some survivability/mobility at the cost of not being able to heal but more frequent cooldown. Or perhaps it's at all possible to ignore defensive cooldown altogether and focus on damage.

    Anyone got any thoughts?

I think she believes Cain about the monsters and adventures. She just didn't believe the part where some ancient prophecies tell the world is coming to an end that starts from some star randomly falling from the sky and dead will rise, all hell will break loose, the demons will take over the cities and start rampaging on the sanctuary once again even after all the prime evils were already slain.

Act I is pretty easy though. You will find that in Act II, you will probably need more defensive and have to drop even more offense. For example, you might have to get tough as nails and superstition, and you will have to work iron impact in probably at the cost of wotb.

You're still doing more dps than when you're dead.
This is pretty true. The basic cycle of Inferno is: Start Act I as tank, get better gear so you can go DPS, beat Act I, farm Act I with DPS gear if needed, start Act II as tank, get better gear so you can go DPS, etc.

This basically sums it up right there. I'd advise any new barbarian out there to start doing any new content with the most defensive build ever. Then once you can clear it with ease, you can start to swap out a few defensive stat for faster clear time. This is how the game is meant to be progressed.

Now I'm not even tanking act 2 anymore, I'm just using 2 hander to cleave through everything as fast as possible. On act 3, if I don't want to die, I still have to pick up my shield and go defensive in a party though, but I'm still gearing up my 2h for act3.

posted a message on Itemization choke-points: A civil discussion.
I feel like things are fine as is. The way things works now is that say you're almost ready to get into act1 inferno, you have to farm quite a bit of gear in hell act 4 to get upgrade. For example for just throwing numbers out there let's say you have to farm act4 hell for 8 hours before you find a reasonable upgrade.

After a few days of farming you eventually upgrade your gear so now you can farm act1 with ease. The higher chance at higher lvl means you're seeing more higher level items and higher potential to give better upgrade. This also nets you to about 8 hours of farming until the next reasonable upgrade.

Then after a few days you also start to become gear enough to do act2, the same thing repeats. You spend more time to find smaller upgrade.

Now once you're at act3-4 difficulty, the game kinds of stop there since it's the hardest difficulty in the game. At this point your gear becomes close to the "best" possible, so it now takes significantly more time to find that 90+ percentile of rolls in your perfectly rolled gears. But hey, that's what it takes to be at the top 10% of the game.

posted a message on MF Gear Swapping Fix Idea
To be honest, this is a terrible idea. This removes the mf/dps/survivability balancing aspect of the gear from the game (it's supposed to be a choice whether you want to kill monster faster or have higher chance to drop rares). There's also a problem with whether this change should be retroactive? If the old mf gear still has mf then you don't exactly solve the problem. If you remove mf from all the old gears then you're going to have even more outrage than ias nerf...

What's even worse about this idea is that, once everyone can get mf, then nobody really does. If everyone is going to, at a fee, get flat out 100% chance at getting item then you might as well increase the repair fee and buff the baseline droprate for everyone.

posted a message on Playing Diablo 3 Without the Auction House
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I have a feeling that most people who are enjoying no AH game have not progressed really far into the inferno.

I'm saying this mostly because I've obtained a lot of my gear from the AH (I still manage to use some that I've found myself), racked up about 300 hours of gameplay on my barb, and I already feel like I'm hitting a brick wall. I've been progressing fine with a sword and board spec and gear (I beated diablo with it), but I'm still not gear enough to go 2h on act3 consistently yet. However, I already feel like I'm at the point where real upgrades for me is becoming extremely difficult to find. Searching for direct upgrade yields only 1-2 pages of gears that EVERYONE ON THE SERVER HAS BEEN COLLECTING.

I never feel like AH is considered "cheating" or anything. It's just an option for me to find good gear that I find but cannot really use, and turn them into a gear that is good for me. The other way I think about this is, I could either spend 100 hours of gameplay to find that one upgrade I want while vendoring everything else, or turn the past 10 hours of effort finding other decently gear into a single good one.

Having AH also gives me option to experience many other playstyles. The minimum stat required differs between each playstyle and unless there's a way to quickly replaced your gears, it's just going to take that much longer being stuck with the most optimal build to make up for not finding enough upgrades.

Personally, I've already felt like poking my eyes out when I have to spend 30 hours grinding enough money to buy the next upgrade. I can't imagine being stuck with the same gear for 100 hours before I can get some decent upgrade and able to progress to further act.

Am still testing out EQ. Loving it so far, especially when i play with either my WD buddy (Grasping helps keep stuff in it, BBW with + 30 % damage makes the EQ even more powerful), or Monk Tank friend (since she can basically just stand there and take anything, i pop the EQ on her and can then just do hit and runs and charge). Solo, i am not so sure though.

That being said, I am also testing using Leap (Iron Impact) instead of IP. Gives even more mobility (and thus, helps with "kiting" champs inside your EQ), and it does boost my armor reduction to 88 %. I miss the lifesteal from IP though, but I feel as if though that getting life steal on my belt, (about 3 %, which, with bloodthirst, would give me 8,5 % lifesteal pre-inferno reduction) would make up for that.

I am also wondering whether or not cold EQ would be better, since it can be a bit problematic keeping things in there. But that would remove two of the things i love most about using EQ over WotB: lower CD and no fury cost. Hmmmm.

All in all, I would consider the 2 equally viable. But more testing to be done.

EQ scales better solo because at half hp, stuff dies that much faster.

As for keeping stuff in there, popping EQ with Ignore pain is more than enough :)
