Well, I was playing with Impale: Chemical Burn pre-1.0.4 but since then I have increased my crit chance, therefore, I'm now playing with Grievous Wounds rune.
Chemical Burn has also a problem with front-loading burst with stacked Sharpshooter, which I still love to do.
You can't front-load damage with chemical burns like you can with grievous wounds, but when it comes to pure hatred efficiency, chemical burns is hard to beat.
Just FYI, the DoT of Impale: Chemical Burn can, itself, crit. You lose a bit of the DoT if you hit the same target twice quickly in succession (it overwrites the previous application) but guranteed Impale crit + guranteed DoT crit with sharpshooter at the start of fights is nice. I personally do not use Grevous Wounds for that reason.
ok so just to be sure, if you have a weapon with a ''+frost dmg'' stat on it (not sure it even slows) it will apply the cull the weak debuff so to speak and every attack will benefit from the 15% boost, even if you dont use ele arrow/frost arrow or a slow at all ?
That's correct. If your weapon has frost damage, it applies a slow, and all the attacks you make with it will therefore benefit from Cull the Weak. Even on the inital hit. Some abilities, such as Elemental Arrow: Ball Lightning, may convert all of your damage to lightning, so it may not work with abilities such as that, but I have not specifically tested it.
so the intial hit on a primary target would then be 155 +15 = 170% weapon dam. and the secondary would be at 170+15 = 185% on IMPACT?
It's my understanding that passives like Cull the Weak and Steady Aim apply multiplicitively. So, for example, with Cull the Weak:
For the primary target of Elemental Arrow:Frost Arrow: 1 * 1.55 * 1.15 = 1.7825 or 178.25% of your normal damage
For the secondary target of EA:FA: 1 * 1.7 * 1.15 = 1.955 or 195.5% of your normal damage
If anyone with a better grasp on the damage formulas can correct me, please feel free.
Actually, it does apply on the initial hit of frost arrow. Furthermore, Cull the Weak applies on the inital hit of Entangling Shot, as well every hit you make with a weapon that has cold damage (on attacks that apply weapon damage). You don't need to prime them with a slow first to get the extra damage on such attacks. This was relatively simple to test in act 1 inferno using a low level weapon.
Also, the 170% damage from Frost Arrow ONLY applies to the secondary targets. The primary target takes the base 155% damage of Elemental Arrow. This doesn't seem to be a well known fact, but I just tested it and I'm 100% it's true.
