Um what. He said exactly what you said, exept that he didn't mention what element to roll for.

And on topic: +1 for ele%.

Just to be clear, CC123Aus, about the comments on Maximus dps being "fire only" you mean that %dmg to fire affects the fire chain right? AFAIK the damage range of the weapon being fire doesn't have any relevance when considering builds, since the runes themselves dictate the damage type and they "overwrite" the weapon damage type and thus you can go with physical build using weapon with avg damage being fire.

When Bane of the Trapped gets fixed (starts working on item proc damage as well) it will be the best choice for third gem besides Mirinae and Gogok. Also Taeguk is mathed to be one of the best gems dps wise, but in practice it will take some extra effort to keep the stack up since the restacking takes quite some time.

EP fills your spirit pool on trash and bosses that summon minions, but on the ones that don't it doesn't really do anything but produce clones - which is why I recommend the mantra. :)

As gems Mirinae, Gogok and Taeguk are the three strongest ones followed by Bane of the Trapped (actually this will be possibly the strongest if they fix it, for currently it doesn't increase item proc based damage - so clones from SWK set won't get any benefit atm). Bane of the Powerful is decent, but if you plan to run Greater Rifts I recommend using the three I mentioned (or two depending on how your ammy is rolled).

Flying Dragon for Sunwuko build is the best choise of weapons right now. If you prefer using one-handers, then look for ones with strong damage procs like Odyn Son, Shard of Hate or Thunderfury or build defining legendary effects like The Fist of Az'Turrasq or Jawbreaker.

I find it very hard to believe that spamming EP is better than using the more conventional Mantra spam on boss fights. Trash propably dies even faster, but the aoe damage is not a problem even with the mantra spam, and with mantra you'll get a useful effect to the boot. EP:SS does give you some spirit back, I'll grant you that, but I'd still consider giving the mantra spam a go.

Using Innas gives you really nice option of taking advantage of Taeguk, which is pretty much the highest dps legendary gem if one can keep the stacks up, and having close to free SW makes keeping the stacks pretty much trivial. In any case I'd consider using something else instead of that Pain Enhancer, if not Taeguk which does force you to pay more attention to prevent stacks dropping, then Mirinae which is sick with Flying Dragon procs.

I'd go with Odyn Son. Unless the procs have changed recently (I've been away from the game for a month or so), the OS proc is still one of the strongest in game. The weapon has also higher base damage than TF, so skills hit harder using OS. Unless having a fast weapon is of paramount importance, OS is pretty close to best all around weapon in game.

posted a message on PTR 2.1 Thoughts
Read the PTR notes, but haven't tried it yet. I don't get the whining about dex = armor buff and reworking of OWE. Both were desperately needed changes for monk gearing. Now we can actually try out different gear sets and off pieces without losing bunch of All Resist, as long as the new piece has any secondary resist on it. And "the imba OWE" was the only thing getting the lucky ones with close to perfect matching OWE resist close to other melee classes survivability because the dex giving dodge sucked bad compared to armor from Str. I'll admit that dex = armor wasn't the most imaginative solution, but it does good job of getting the value to equal level with other main stats, and imo that's all that is required from it. I'll rather have a quick and decent solution than endless balancing of some new imaginative solution.

Looking to see if anyone can tell me the best way i should go with enchanting my first TF , More damage or get rid of Vit for %damage?

also if anyone has any pointers on gearing mistakes would be nice to know as well. Thanks!

You can check the damage range by holding Ctrl while mousing over the sword, and I believe that yours has close to perfect roll on it. If you are looking for more damage, and don't mind losing the Vit on it, by all means do roll that into dmg%.

One gearing mistake that really stands out is that SoJ of yours. The elemental damage roll on the ring is propably WAY more of a damage increase than that crit dmg.

    Hi,

Could you give me advice about which weapon and combo would be better ?

    Defintely OS + Thunderfury.

siar89 -I know, exept that some skills use (or used to at least, don't think there has been changes) main hand damage.

Use that Odyn Son on rift guardians and bosses instead of TF. OS proc is one of the stongest in game espcially on single target fights. Personally I'd run OS + SoH to skip switching weapons.
Oh, and when choosing the weapon to use in main hand, don't look at weapon dps, but the damage range instead. Slow weapons tend to have lower dps, but way higher damage range, and that is what the skills use as a base for damage calculations. By damage range I mean the range right under the big DPS numbers, not the elemental/black damage roll.

Life per spirit spent is sadly pretty bad healing stat, and I would strongly advise against it as a survival strategy especially on higher torments. Try droppig that Trancendence, and see if you feel any difference on survivability. Roll that lpss to socket.

Tbh I'm running a holy monk on T4 to 6, and I'm a bit lost on how to heal myself on T5 and 6 effectively. Nothing seems strong enough. I'm starting to think that either godly OWE-alignment, Sankis, double Unity or paragonlvl 600 is needed for T6 solo for a monk. At the moment I'm surviving on globes, max LoH from paragon, and what ever secondary healing I happen to have in gear (+MoH on T6).

posted a message on questions about exploding palm
Taken from Druin's Mechanics Workshop, link found in first sticky on these monk forums:

How it works -- It places a DoT on a monster. When that monster dies, if the DoT is still one them, it will create an explosion dealing 50% of the monsters UNBUFFED HP to monsters surrounding it.

That unbuffed portion meaning that if you're in multiplayer game, the explosion is not 50% of the current monster health, but what it would be if not increased by other players in game. Explosion range is not too big - couldn't find any exact figures, but my guesstimate would be something around 10 yds. The range cannot be increased. Weapon damage has no effect on EPs explosion, but it of course increases the bleed portion. As far as I know EP doesn't crit, so it doesn't benefit from CC or CD. Physical damage and elite damage increase the explosion damage (assuming you're fighting elites). The explosion damage is also increased byFist of Az Turrasque - legendary fist weapon.

It's by far the best monk skill on higher torments, and not completely useless on lower difficulties either. Very strong especially if used together with Cyclone Strike to pack up the mobs tight.

posted a message on There might be some hope after all - The leaked monk changes of 2.0.5
The point of the post was that because dex < str defensively, we need really well rolled OWE gear to just get even with barbs rocking one defensive passive as well while the barb has no special needs for secondary stats in their gear. So we're not OP tanks because of OWE, we're just barely on par with the barbs. Replacing OWE with something that restricts gearing less would be very welcome. Ofc we'd have to get something of similar level defense passive in return, so I'm not asking a nerf to our toughness either. What comes to your Zdps support gear: there is nothing that barb couldn't use as well, and if you threw the gear (obv with str) on him, he'd be even tankier than you without having to roll (or get really lucky) the secondary resists.
EDIT: And I'm not saying that the zdps support monk wouldn't be extremely effective in T6 group. It's just all we can be at a decent level of success.

Here is a good post on US bnet D3 monk forum about OWE that pretty much says it all about OWE what I've been trying to say, and backs the stuff with some math as well, even if it is only part way thorough.
