    Alkaizer's route is by far most efficient, keep lvl 3 is not really as good, if you want to add another area to the farming route - rakkis crossing, after the killing fields just go there, 2-3 champs there (+1 may be in the stores) as a truckload of mobs with relatively high density, with move speed run fast a single cast of archon never failed me there.

    This isn't just about the CM nerf in general - this is completely opposite of the 'build diversity' advertised by blizzard. Right now every single wizard is FORCED to go archon, simple as that. If you wish to dispute that statement please go ahead and look at the diabloprogress.com and take whatever amount of higher ranked wizards you want. Every single one of them is archon.

    There simply is nothing else that is even remotely effective in the wizard arsenal left. Coefficients being nerfed to the ground is not just the matter of CM builds - it's making the APoC gear rather... i'm sorry what is the point of APoC gear again? To give us back AP on crit... right, so getting 1-3 AP back from using a skill that costs 50AP makes complete sense?

    This isn't just evident on these forums - look inside the wizard forum, there is no threads about builds, there's no discussions of some never seen builds. Look inside WD or Barb forums - there are dozens of threads about various builds with many responses and people validating them.

    I guess the choice all the wizards have to face right now is very simple - sell all your crap, change class to something else and enjoy, or be bored to death with archon and having to forever more manage the stupid long cooldown and wait for some future patch to address the issue. Mind you - patch 1.1 is going to be PVP patch, they said they are not going to do much balancing there, which is aimed for next year, so we're going to be stuck with the current shit until may be April 2013? If they are really really fast.

    I'm not sure about how or why this works out in terms of AP. As much as i try to do math that goes into AP management on this it just doesn't seem to add up to look sustainable vs 1 target. On multiple targets it's never been an issue of any sort. My question is - if you can handle meteor AP power with this, why not use arcane torrent disruption? It has 20% coefficient for every missile, and it shoots out at least 5 i think? With disruption it will scale the damage you deal by an extra 15% while having only 16 AP cost as compared to 30 from meteor

    There is no real 'breakpoint' at which 1h+OH becomes more viable, at least not a calculated one. There is a lot of talk about 1h+oh benefiting more from AIS at super high end DPS levels (200k++) however i am yet to see such a mathematical calculation to back up that claim. I still insist that a 2 hander (skorn) is going to be FAR cheaper than 1h+OH for higher dps, surely a good stat skorn is going to cost you 250m+ but lets compare that to a higher DPS echoing fury or a yellow 1 hander with OS+LS+CD>70%, provided you are looking in the 1200 DPS range - you are talking about 500m++ for such a weapon, not to mention chantodo's OH wothy 200m+ if you do not get an all physical dmg weapon.

    I actually am seriously beginning to dislike wizards for this reason - you are stuck with having to find a weapon that has all 3 of those stats and those 3 always have and will continue costing a BOMB comparing to anything else. Not only that, but you are left without Echoing Fury because it cannot roll all 3 of those stats. Hence if you want to really maximize your DPS - you go for Echoing Fury with OS+CD leaving yourself without LS. Having to rely on blood magic's pathetic 1.5% is really...

    Thanks a lot, that clears up a fair bit of sustainability questions. I think adding in slow time / time warp could drastically increase the speed at which elites would die as well with an extra 20% damage added, it has nice synergy as well in sense that it's in the near vicinity of the character same as sleet storm and it would add to survival a little bit as well with slowed missiles and slowed attack speed of enemies. The cooldown of slow time is reduced to 15 seconds in the patch, with some CM procs it would be possible to have a near 100% uptime on it as well.

    If you read thru the magic find thread on these forums carefully - it is a derivation that higher MF leads to higher loot quality. To simplify that even further, according to what has been talked about so far, each MP adds approximately 25% MF/GF, with MP10 you gain an additional 250% MF, that is a very significant amount, provided you are capped on MF to begin with you should be expecting to see a fair bit more of legendary / set items. That is exactly the point i am trying to make. If you are looking at this matter from the perspective of purely farming paragon levels, then surely the lowest MP would be the most beneficial, however if you are more interested in loot rather than paragon levels - then significantly higher MP (provided you have the gear to kill it somewhat efficiently to begin with) might be far better.

    On the second thought - how exactly does AIS come into the picture? Channeled spells do not tick faster based on attack speed - they have a fixed tick rate, shocking aspect should be 'passively' shocking attackers independently of attack speed.

    This should be more than just pure archon build utilization on various MP settings. There are other builds, even archon builds can take a step back to the old blizzard kite builds and do MP10. The question is whether it is actually really worth it in terms of quality of loot. I don't really know how do you quantify that because a good rolled item vs a bad rolled item is a massive difference yet both of them can be ilvl 63. Probably the most accurate way to really quantify this would be by simply comparing the number of legends / set items you obtain per hour on various MP levels. That would require a solid amount of data to be even decently accurate.

    If you are looking purely at amount of kills you can do vs time - then surely MP0 is the most efficient, however at various levels of DPS there will be a huge difference between the speed on MP1, MP2, etc. That is basically what you are saying, but how exactly did you account for the quality of loot between those? Quantity =/= quality after all, getting 5000 junky ilvl 58-62 is far worse than getting even 1 ilvl 63 legendary item.

    I'm actually starting to lookout for a 1 hander with probably trium with APoC as OH, it does have high proc chance which as you mentioned will play out nicely for a CM based set of skills as well. In fact using this there's a good probability of completely replacing the current CM build to use sleet storm instead. Going down that path - add in chain reaction, which will as well benefit from cold blooded and you will have really stupid damage output, however sustaining AP for that is going to be pretty tough.

    The build i proposed in the initial post - i added in astral presence because without APoC on my gear and a slow skorn i should be able to sustain channeling it long enough to kill anything. However to make it completely sustainable - there has to be APoC on gear, given that - astral presence can be dropped for sure.

    I'm using skorn with LS, quite honestly it simplifies the game a fair bit. Archon being an easy mode is made an even easier mode with LS. If you look at the monster power in coming patch - i think that LS will play out much better than LAK if you go for higher monster powers. I have no issues at all with reflect mobs, just right click on them and give it a couple of seconds to die.

    Do not forget that blizzard acknowledges the problem with the blood magic rune on the force weapon - they are admitting it is a bug that it doesn't work for DoT based damage skills which includes archon. If they do fix it - it basically means you no longer need to worry about healing as it would be covered by that. Surely 1.5% is low, however if your DPS is above 200k - then 1.5% would be more than enough at that gear level to keep yourself healed.

    I do not agree with the pricing though - for example my skorn (in my sig on my wizard) is a relatively good skorn, i got that for 100m. Right now, using the calculators - if i wish to beat the DPS from this skorn i need to buy at a very least a 900 DPS 1 hander with crit + OS + 150ish INT, looking at AH that will cost me about 40m min. To really add the total DPS back to where it is for me now i will also need chantodo's offhand with at least 100-400 dmg on it, that costs at least 120m. Hence i do not see how can a 1 hander + OH be on par in terms of pricing for the same level of DPS attainable. A skorn with my stats without LS will cost nearly half the price i paid for it, probably around 50m.

    So this, like i mentioned in my archon guide - really depends on the amount of gold you have available. If you have a couple hundred mil to spare - you can get 1h+OH, if you have 100m to spare get a good skorn with LS, if you have 50m or less get a skorn without LS. Of course you can get a much lower 1h+OH but you'll lose out on anything from 30-60k DPS based on the rest of your gear.

    PTR Changes

    Specifically:

    Ray of Frost
    • Arcane Power cost reduced from 20 to 16 per period
    Skill Rune – Sleet Storm
    • Weapon damage increased from 215% to 333%
    • Proc scalar reduced from 0.25 to 0.1875
    333% Weapon damage
    add in 20% extra damage from cold blooded which will proc from the sleet storm itself
    add in 30% extra damage from cold skills from Frostburn

    following multiplicative damage formula we have:
    333*1.2*1.3 = 519.48% weapon damage per tick. This is insane!

    Surely the area of effect of sleet storm is relatively small, however the raw damage output of this is going to tear thru anything.

    I do foresee some issues with having to chase ranged mobs that tend to run away from you, quilbeasts, spearman, etc

    It might be useful to combine this with at least 1 ranged skill to be able to handle those or a frost nova to ease the chasing around.

    Life steal definitely works on Sleet Storm even on live, and they might fix the blood magic rune for the force weapon to actually work with DoT based attacks.

    Perhaps something along the lines of THIS BUILD

    It's a personal preference + what you can afford. Skorn is good for it, if you are aiming to be ranked No. 1 in the DPS across the world, then 1 hander is going to be there, however a high end 1 hander will cost approximately 200m, a good high end off-hand will cost about 100m. A single skorn will with life leech and high end stats will cost 100m, a mid-range one with life-steal will be about 40-50m.

    Also, as i covered in the guide, it depends on your filler spell and what you are building, fast recharge with CM procs - then you need 1 hander + OH with APoC, if you are able to stay in archon without that - then you should use a 2 hander simply because it is SIGNIFICANTLY cheaper and you can spend all that gold on upgrading your other slots first.

    Can someone enlighten me on a FREE screen capture software that allows to do GOOD quality 1080p? I spent the last 3 hours trying to find something that does it well and there's nothing, there's a bunch out there but most of them lag the hell out of my game with 2-3 seconds play time followed by 2-3 seconds freeze. Xsplit was not lagging the game at all, but the pathetic free 25 FPS and 720p looks like absolute crap.

    I just stick to using disintegrate, follow alkaiser's farming method, if i ever do run out of archon, it's gonna be for not more than 10-15 seconds. No APoC gear, not using CM for it either, CM procs a couple of seconds for me, but doesn't really matter. Swapped in the SoJ instead of the ring went down from 155k DPS to 130k DPS and i'm doing even faster than before in killing elites now. Even with 130k DPS disintegrate kills very fast, just a couple of seconds of channeling and most normal mobs are dead. Phase beasts and blah takes a bit longer, but i can even kill champs with it easily. I don't see why you would say other spells can outdo it, when there's no other 'intant hitting' spell that would do such AoE + Single target DPS at the same time to fill in the 10-15 seconds of archon downtime.
