I didn't read the entire thing but I just want to say I think it is possible to clear A3/A4 with a budget going for neither block or LOH. I myself went the block route, but only cause I bought my justice lantern back when it was still 1 mill, and fonud a great HOC for 2,5m.
I'm currently sitting on a bit more than 15m gold and I've played around with the idea of dropping all my current gear in the stash, buying an entire new gear set for this money and see how far I can get in farming A3, just to see if it can be done without it.

Frenzy - Sidearm
Furious Charge - Dreadnought
Leap - Iron Impact
Revenge - Provocation
War Cry - Impunity
Both armor passives.
Last skill and passive I swap around quite a bit.
As for my playstyle, it's hard to describe in words but using mobility and shift for accurate positioning to dodge various attacks and closing gaps, I think is the most important. I guess you could say it's kinda similar to how Zrave plays, since he's using basically the same build as me, except I believe he's geared more defensively than me.
I was struggleing with the gearup for inferno act 2, i have butcher on farm but i couldnt seem to get Any upgrades. Then i read this guide and it explains that i should add str+vit=150ish in total.
So i go to AH, add in :
All resistance
Str
Vit
35000 gold
And starts to buy the gear with 150 (str+vit) and 40+ resist to all (and some extra bonus stat sometimes).
I went from 9k dmg to 13k
From 8.5k armor to 12k
From 28k hp to 43k
Very nice guide should help a lot of people out. However I'm more concerned about the longevity of the class since frenzy spam and revenge gets pretty boring after a while.

And about the longevity, I love barb still, leaping and charging never gets old. If you're starting to get bored, try hardcore!
I prolly should have linked more examples of items, but I just couldn’t be arsed, sorry. If anything is unclear, or if you need an example of a specific item, just ask.
All items shown as examples are from the EU GAH, but I'm sure you could find similar items on the US servers for similar or cheaper prices (I've heard US is cheaper than EU, though dunno if true).
