posted a message on Thoughts on d3 now from a d2 fan who has high hopes.
So you are not interested in a discussion with Diablo 2 players who do not feel the same way? There are those of out there who played and loved D2, although not for the same reasons, who also enjoy D3.

But...guys the official site says "Coming in 2014". Blizzard is dead on with release dates. You can set your clock by their release dates!

Most of the existing (decently rolled and up) Legendary items will carry some weight into the xpac but once you hit 70 and the new gear starts to flow everything is going to get upgraded. I would even wager to say it's not worth stockpiling for your Crusader since Loot 2.0 may end up giving you a much smoother item experience on the way to 70. It is a bit of a departure from the previous Diablo games but do we really need to tread down that path again? We all know that current Blizz is not the Blizz of old. They are choosing to look at things from the "WoW model". Which I hate using that expression but is what it is.

Edit: All of that being said it will be interesting to see what the difficulty curve is like heading into Act V. I am going to make up some numbers here without anything more than anecdotal evidence but 150k DPS is the median now and I will be curious to see how well that does in Act V Inferno. If you can farm mid level MP through most of Act V with existing gear then obviously the life of said gear will greatly increase. That remains to be seen as well.

I think it's unique per character in the sense that stat allocaion is 1:1 (point to character) and does not cross characters. So if you have 1k points you can drop 250 into your Wiz, 250 into your WD and then 500 into your Monk in any way you want. It's not a case where you have 1k points and you can drop 1k points into each character. The 50 points you add to Int on your WD don't show up as bonuses on your other characters. That's how it reads/sounds to me at least. Obviously I don't know for certain.

So Paragon points are all combined to calculate the paragon account level. Now, is that ALL characters, maybe highest 5 paragon characters?

I have about 3 character slots remaining, now for some reason after hearing this news I can't help but feel it would be easy to level up say another 3 characters to paragon 50 or so, and gain another 150plevels.

Would be nice to get some solid info on this. Although I have a feeling they don't really know themselves yet, from what was tweeted earlier.

Nothing is set in stone, and we know how things can change in Beta with Blizz. Like I said earlier, still too early to tell how things will play out.

This. I would be willing to bet that shiny reset button comes with a shiny gold cost each time and if they are smart it will be an uncapped increase each time you do it. People wanted more "permanence" and "accountability" with builds and this could be a quick and dirty way to make that happen.

    ...

I think the design intent is to keep people playing and continuing to accrue Para Points with the goal of ultimately maxing out all your characters. Even if you do mostly stick to one character your points can go to any character you want. At least that's what it looks like.

This doesn't happen. If you have to spend a lot of money, the points will go to one character and people will only play that single character. This is the exact problem of the current implementation of paragon levels. It doesn't solve anything this way. And paying for switching a character really, really will lead to a lot of frustration. If it's free on the other hand, the points will just be swapped on every character switch.

What doesn't happen? I mean let's assume they do in fact put a gold sink with switching para points, you are making an absolute statement that everyone will just dump all points into one character. I am saying otherwise, and I can back that up by saying I wouldn't do that anyway. I don't play that way now which is one of several reasons I don't have a max paragon character. Different people have different play styles and of course the min/max crowd is going to look for that ultimate efficiency niche but not everyone plays that way.

Ultimately it's too early to tell and I know I don't know enough about the system to know how it will work in practical application. That's what beta testing is supposed to be fore so hopefully the kinks get ironed out. It's a good step in the right direction though and I think most everyone can agree with that.

The paragon points got a major flaw. If it really is as I understood Josh, you have to distribute your paragon points among all characters instead of each character having his own paragon points, everybody will put all points into one character.

Switching characters? Let's reset paragon points first and put everything on the other characters stats. The big reset button in the paragon interface just cries for this scenario to happen.

And there you have a nice gold sink, we really need them.

Not this way. A reason that lead to making the paragon levels account wide probably was because people started playing only one character, the one with the highest paragon level. Not everybody started making 3-5 P100 characters. And having to spend money to reset paragon points each time you switch a character will have the same result. Nobody wants to spend money that often, therefore people will stick to one character again. If you ask me, this is a very bad money sink.

Maybe they paired Armor and All-res into one readable stat. Or that's how they call Armor now.

I'm more fond of the first hypothesis, though.

I saw that and was going to post the same thing but then I started thinking "wait...maybe that has always been there and I just don't pay enough attention." :)

I'm excited. I was not a fan of the D2 Paladin but I think the Crusader looks interesting enough. Would love to hear more about the Loot Runs and enchanting features as well. All in all I like what I see so far.

"Hadn't played the game in close to a year". Yeah, D3 sure has staying power.

Loving the newly-found "Add to ignore list" feature. The air is so much more breathable, now....

I lied, one more post :)

As opposed to making glittering generalities all the time, maybe you could try approaching from the viewpoint of not all people consume content the same way. I don't play games the way I did in my "younger days". Family, work, life, kids, other hobbies. I don't play anything long term anymore. The fact that I can come back after a year, pick right up and have a great time says more to me than anything else.

That's just too logical though isn't it. It has to be Blizzard's fault for making a fail game ;) Oh but wait, you won't read this because you blocked me. It's for the best you wouldn't have an intelligible rebuttal anyway and would just resort to calling me names.

P.S the block feature has been around for awhile. Surprised you are just now finding out about it. :)

Hey VTruth this isn't new. I hadn't played the game in close to a year and then just got back into it because some friends started playing/playing again. Love the changes and am having a blast! People have been complaining about drop rates since day 1. Just ignore them and don't feed the trolls. Good to see Maka is still beating that same trolololol drum.

Ok I'm done. That was my one post for 2013.

posted a message on Paragon 100 too easy?
Time investment and degree of difficulty are two completely different ideas. Getting P100 is/will not be hard by any stretch but it is very time consuming. It's a system designed to reward people for actually playing, which I know, is a completely out there and off the wall concept.

The "impossible concept" thing is also not an absolute. What may be impossible for one person is entirely possible for another. By your own admission at the rate you play you will never get P40+ so this sounds like exactly what you are looking for.

    Quote from sifuedition

400+ hours and I have no toon above level 45 who is wearing something that dropped for me. I have never paid more than 500k (a weapon) and other than the one item, I have never paid more than 100k. My gear is not good. It's marginal at best and I haven't found upgrades. There is something wrong with a loot system when I don't have any excitement about ID'ing anything. When I have never ID'd something and thought "cool", much less "wow!" in 400+ hours.

First let me say I understand your points and that what you say has truth to it. Now, that out of the way I find it so very very very hard to believe you have 400+ hours in this game and you have no 45+ heroes with a single self-found-wearable piece among them. I have maybe half your time invested and I would estimate 70% of my gear is self found. I have 3 60's and will have my 4th in the next week or so with a stash full of gear waiting for him. Again all self found.

Now, please don't misunderstand, I am not saying you are lying, you really have nothing to gain by doing so, and obviously I can't prove or disprove your claims. I feel though, in my heart of hearts, that your experience is not the norm and I don't know what but it seems like you are doing something wrong.

I have said it before and while some people vehemently disagree with it, it's our own personal expectations that tend to ruin experiences. If I were a betting man, which I'm not really, I would be willing to bet that you have identified countless good to great items. All you are focusing on is the top 1% (warning anecdotal statistic) and when you don't see that you come to the conclusion that something must be wrong. If that is not the case, then so be it.

Case in point I was running with a buddy of mine last night and a 2 hand axe dropped. It had 292ish strength, 190ish vitality, 1000ish Life on hit, something else that I don't remember and a socket. DPS was modest at mid 800's. His main is a barb and my soon to be 60 is a barb that is using a 2-hand spec. I figured he would keep the weapon since it was solid and was a clear upgrade but he gave it to me because he is only looking for that top 1% of gear. The point to this story is that he is so focused on such a small percent of gear that he completely overlooked a really good item. TLDR; tunnel vision is dangerous mistress.

Anyway this is getting long now but I just felt compelled to comment. Hopefully you will find that first piece of usable gear soon!

Got a pair of Fire Walkers last week. They were pretty meh and were not worth swapping out on my monk so for the time being my DH is having fun with Fire Walker/Trail of Cinders. :D

I am only P(4) at the moment too. Haven't had much time to play.
