I picked up some gear and am testing the difference between using sledge fist and a shield (2.26 aps) vs balanced basilard and shield (2.61aps).

who has a shield nowdays?
I use my shield on mp 9-10 for defensive purposes. It brings me down from 1.58m dps dual wielding to 1.42m dps with the shield though, even with the extra crit it provides.

I expect the Sledge Fist to be rather popular in PvP due to the stun. I can see the combo with EF's fear being a shutdown scenario. I'm just curious if control impairments will receive a nerf in PvP?

I bet they will, but even with a nerf, the sledge fist will likely be a force to be reckoned with. They can't nerf it too much or they nullify legitimate abilities like ice nova.

Personally, I'm a huge fan of Sledge Fist and the stun ability that it provides. I use mine to essentially keep ubers and elites in perma-stun.

I highly doubt a CMWW wizard will be able to do as well as you are thinking considering the mobile nature of pvp and the very stationary nature of WW. No one will be standing still in your WW enough.

I tested this on Azmodan mp10 and I have 1,479,678 DPS while my character sheet says 54k. Now that is a big difference. Just points out that people who go for purely higher numbers on the stat sheet are missing out.

What???? Post a link to your profile, please!

I'm about 125k sheet dps and do about 990k-1m real dps on Azmodan with Overawe, Faith in the Light and Breath of Heaven...

It is in my sig, but that doesn't tell the whole story. I cast Sweeping Winds with 250k dmg on char sheet and 13% SW damage (4 items to swap) then switch to my 4 attack per second speed set for cyclone generation and use the innas 4 pc set bonus to keep it up.

    Works like a charm.

The whole debate on LoH vs LS is based quite a bit on your attack speed and damage. With 1200 LoH and a 4 attack speed (thunderclap 1.4 modifier), LoH grants me around 5k-6k a tick, which is very useful. If you have low attack speed and high damage, LS is the clear winner. Everyone's cutoff is different. I prefer LoH.

After that, get rid of that inna's belt (no, 4pc bonus is crap for anything else than TR farming)

I beg to differ. The 4 pc set is essential if you are boosting your sweeping winds snapshot by gear swapping, which can multiply your dps exponentially.

posted a message on Paper DPS vs Real DPS
    Hello guys,

Lately I've been noticing a very distinct difference between what my character sheet says and my real dps is. You can easily be mislead by your character sheet due to many tricks, skills, and combinations to up your dps.

I'm very curious about what everyone's real dps is to see how mine stacks up.

To test your real dps I suggest doing the following: It will only take a few minutes. Go to Azmodan mp10, and time your boss kill. If you cant kill him, just stop the timer when you die, and take the chunk of his life you took and divide it by your time.

I'm not going to post my own dps here yet so that no one can say I made this thread as a self-brag. : P

You should all go try this if only to satisfy your own curiosity. I have a feeling monk's real DPS is much higher than what we see on the sheet in general.

If you have read these forums for any prolonged time, you will realize that Huminator is a very angry narcissist with a giant sharp stick shoved tightly and permanently up his ass. Eventually you get used to it and can weed through his hate-spew to find the nuggets of information in his posts. It's sorta like digging for faux gold in a bin of foul smelling sewage.

Messy; but if you wear the right protective equipment and hold your nose you can find something shiny.

    Nice helm.

I think the most efficient way to improve your character is going to be through your jewelry. You can find rings better than that skull grasp with more crit, and that will drastically improve your damage. I'd also look into a better amulet with either more LoH or more crit.

I'd also suggest getting better gems in your weapons.

And because you haven't done that it can only mean that you are either:
    a) lazy
    B) rude

The irony in your statement is astounding... and I don't even think you realize it...

posted a message on I feel like I'm against a wall - can someone offer advice on which pieces of gear to upgrade next?
Good Name, I also am Ian. : )

The most obvious change is to get sockets in both of your weapons, which will add 200% crit damage.

Everything else is pretty good (except for that belt....)

Also, your gems are pretty bad. Those can be upgraded, but it likely is more cost effective to focus on new weapons.

posted a message on Tempest Rushing: The right way.
After trying a bunch of things from this thread, I've settled on a new build for TR.

    http://us.battle.net/d3/en/calculator/monk#bcTSYk!dZc!cZYYcc

it isn't exactly you suggest but I took your advice on the sweeping winds and SSS instead of serenity. I have been finding that Submission actually does amazing damage and has a great range. With this new build, farming goes much smoother and I find that I have more spirit to spend.

I think this is my finalized mp0 TR farming build.

What type of DPS is needed for a sufficient run of MP0?

I'm sitting at 55k DW (still need to purchase a Skorn).

I did try TR before without a skorn an a random 2H i had (1200+DPS), and I didn't seem to do much damage.

I see a lot of users in the 100k+ DPS, is that what is minimum?

You will likely need 100k+ if you want to be the most efficient so you don't have to loop back to kill monsters. A decent skorn should help quite a bit, as paper dps is quite a bit higher with a 2h skorn than dual wield.

That being said, even at lower dps, a TR build on mp0 is still going to be more efficient for you than mp1+. Before I had high dps, I used tempest rush just to move between packs of monsters, then FoT them down and repeat. Infinite Tempest rushing won't be efficient (since they wont die in 1 run through) but using tempest rush to get to monsters will be.
